The Aesthetic Enterprise Interview

The Aesthetic Enterprise Interview

B+ Player Radio's Gary Mastriano and I recently sat down with "Aesthetic Enterprise " and asked them a few questions regarding their past, present, and future as a dominant force in Pro Wrestling Syndicate.

Aesthetic Enterprise is comprised of the "Prince of Aesthetics " Damian Gibbs, the plus-sized underwear model Beefcake Charlie, and the calculated man behind the magnificence, Jay Enterprise . Before we got started, Damian Gibbs had a question for us : "Don't we look pretty darn aesthetic?" To which I responded: "You guys do look incredibly aesthetic. All three of you." Gary was particularly taken by Jay Enterprise's sweater vest. I also asked Damian about the t-shirt he was wearing—a comic book style rendering of himself and his two comrades. I was curious where fans could pick up such a fashionable piece of merchandise, and was told they're available at every Pro Wrestling Syndicate event . In addition: Beefcake Charlie was wearing a t-shirt that caught me off guard—an Aesthetic Enterprise t-shirt meant to resemble the Adidas logo. When I said that, Jay cut me off and told me the Adidas logo stole the style from the Enterprise. Of the comic book t-shirt, Jay told us that it is among the most sought after pieces of PWS merchandise and comes in t-shirts, sweatshirts, and—upon special order—tank tops. He says that there are currently only about three tank tops in existence; Beefcake Charlie cuts him off and suggests two of the three belong to the "Prince of Aesthetics ."

We start talking about wrestling and I ask the trio about last month's suicidal six-way , wherein Jay Enterprise purchased Nikos Rikos' spot in the match on behalf of Damian Gibbs . I noted that neither Gibbs nor Beefcake went on to win the match, a fact that didn't seem to sit well with anyone in the room. I was curious about a particularly memorable moment however, in which Beefcake accepted a pizza delivery in the squared-circle. I asked Beefcake Charlie how he prepares for such an event—does he give Jay a signal: " It's Pizza Time ?" Or maybe he makes the call himself forty five minutes before bell time? Without wanting to reveal the magic, Beefcake told us that it's part of his career . Not only is he a "fantastic professional wrestler," but he's a professional "plus-sized underwear model." He tells us that his sponsors need him to stay at his weight, which is why ordering and consuming pizza during a match is essential to his success.

I turn the focus to Damian Gibbs, using the "underwear model" segue to a serious conversation about a music video in which Damian was featured. The song was called the "Dealership " by female hip-hop duo Porsha & Mercedes . In the video, Damian is featured alongside a dozen men in a Dealership where women can shop for the man that fits them best. I asked Damian how his involvement with Porsha and Mercedes came to be, and his response was: "Well I'm a highly sought-out model. I rock five different shades of underwear trunks." I wasn't sure how to respond to that, so I asked, "Simultaneously." The Prince of Aesthetics wasn't amused: "No! Purple, pink, white, blue, and red. I was contacted for my miraculous aesthetics , and they pretty much begged me. Jay brokered the deal and next thing I know I'm a hip hop sensation."

We moved ahead into the here and now and asked the Aesthetic Enterprise what they have on tap for " Wrestle Bowl 2015 ." The tag team of Damian and Charlie would eventually be involved in a tag team gauntlet, but Jay is focused on the negligence of PWS management. He gives us the background on Pro Wrestling Syndicate's relationship with Starland Ballroom , and is still irate that his Aesthetic Enterprise was left off the inaugural Ballroom show in August. "We had to take matters into our own hands," according to Jay. "Which we've become accustomed to because for some reason management just doesn't have faith in showing off these Aesthetics at every single show!" Jay adds that they had to make "minced meat " out of a couple "shlubs ," but they've finally got their match at Starland Ballroom. Damian asks Jay to share the history of the Aesthetic Enterprise at Wrestle Bowl. Jay is ready to give us a brief history lesson: "It was two years ago at Wrestle Bowl 2013 that I debuted in the corner of Mr. Damian Gibbs. And he was successful that night! Last year, the team of Beefcake and the Prince of Aesthetics were victorious in their match—making the Aesthetic Enterprise UNDEFEATED at this very event !" Gary quickly responds, "The greatest streak in wrestling history if you really think about it."

I went on to ask Damian Gibbs about his extremely catchy entrance theme performed by David Guetta . Damian says—and I'm not making this up, this is a real Damian Gibbs quote—"David Guetta actually had a dream and he envisioned a very very aesthetic professional wrestler, and he just didn't know it yet, but it was me. And he wrote this song, verse by verse, handcrafting these lyrics thinking about me ." Beefcake interrupts: "Prince if you'll remember, he had to basically beg you to use the song." I was immediately inspired to switch gears: "Now Damian, I noticed he called you Prince just there. Is Beefcake Charlie ALLOWED to call you by your first name?" Damian says that it's a respect thing; he brought Beefcake into the modeling world and Beefcake is therefore appreciative and rightfully reverent. Jay says that he calls Damian Prince , Beefcake calls Damian Prince , but anybody else has to earn the right to call him by his official title— the "Prince of Aesthetics ."

I ask the entire Aesthetic Enterprise to name some of their favorite moments as a team thus far. Jay says, "There are obviously the aesthetic memories we're going to be making tonight at Starland Ballroom ." Damian Gibbs very humbling says, "Our best match is our next match." Beefcake Charlie struggles to come up with a definitive answer, beginning with, "One that pops into my mind is—" Damian Gibbs didn't miss a beat: "Balls Mahoney Volume 87?" Jay says that Larry Zbyszko " got a dose of the Aesthetics back in April." Damian responds with, "I will say I am the only person to beat [Zbyszko] since his WWE Hall of Fame induction." I jokingly say that he's also the only person who's ever brought a parasol to one our interviews, and Jay says he's happy I called it a parasol . "People call it an umbrella," Jay explains, "But umbrellas are for the rain, parasols are a fashion statement."

We begin to bring things to a close and I ask what brought guys like Damian Gibbs and Beefcake Charlie to the dance. Who did they look up to ask kids and what made them try their hand at the sport? Damian says that he can distinctly remember watching wrestling with his grandfather at just four years old—and not liking anyone. He says, "I thought there's gonna be a better guy out there one day . And it was me." Beefcake gives a much more profound answer, and tells us something we didn't expect. He says, "To be honest with you, someone I really admire and—dare say— mimic is the late great Earthquake . I was a very big fan. I loved all of his work. I can't really say enough about him." Damian interrupts: "Beefcake—Earthquake is really weird way to pronounce Damian Gibb ." Charlie laughs and says that today his favorite wrestler is the "Prince of Aesthetics " Damian Gibbs.

We finish with the same question we ask everyone: "What is your favorite Christmas movie?" Unlike our other guests, the Aesthetic Enterprise is lightning-quick with their responses. Charlie Beefcake says he's a big fan of "Santa with Muscles " starring Hulk Hogan. Jay Enterprise is partial to one of my favorites, "Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas. " Finally the "Prince of Aesthetics " Damian Gibbs said his favorite Christmas movie is "The Best of the Prince of Aesthetics Volume III ."
