At the time current president Ronald ReganВ Name December 10th 1982 В National Bill of Rights day. That is all I can really find interesting that happened that week in history.
Bill Mercer is back to being alone in the booth because as Jay Saldi had to go back to the NFL. He commentated for WCCW because
He sustained a knee and ankle injury during the 1982 training camp, that caused him to miss most of the season.[3]
I did not know Saldi was a current player and former Super Bowl champion, that must have helped the legitimacy of WCCW tremendously. Props to Saldi for helping out this industry.
Mercer brings us to King Kong Bundy.
В This is the mostВ Billy Gardell В I have ever seen Bundy. He basically says that Kevin Von Erich being American Heavyweight Champion is a joke. It’s a non-title match between the two tonight.
And I’m Like… Bundy is a real good talker, and my memory of him against Hogan at WM2 had him a lot more menacing. Here Bundy comes off as a normal bald dude with no eyebrows just pissed as hell.В
If your new to Old School here is how this works. Usually I do a career recap of whoever is in the ring up until the moment they are in th ring. Since this is a weekly show, if I already covered what the guy did, I will post previous matches that wrestler had to get a better understanding of their style. В
В
The Spoiler vs. Jose Lothario
The SpoilerВ Vs. Bruiser Brody
Jose LotharioВ in a six man tag.
The match- Bill Mercer points out how The Spoiler has a new viciousness to him l, reminiscent of his days with Gary Hart. I notice that Lothario is signing autographs before the match, which is WCCWs way of letting you know who the good guy is. Jose was consideredВ The Mexican Brass Knuckles Champion , which was like a hardcore championship I guess.
Bill Mercer let’s us know that “The Spoiler is well acquainted in the Oriental Arts.” They talk about how Spoiler can walk on the ropes do to Oriental Magic. This ties ALOT of shit together! So….В Undertakers mystical powers В are supposedly from an urn right? Well where did that urn get the powers? I believe it was from THE SPOILER, he taught Undertaker theВ Old School В rope walk. The means that Spoiler learned the rope walk from the Orient do to ‘Magic’, he used that same magic to teach the Undertaker, who took Oriental Black Magic to a whole new thing. Pretty sure using Oriental is racist too… Too bad that magic did not translate to wrestling talent The Spoiler!
Jose gets a few punches in, Spoiler does a classic fishhook maneuver. This led to them battling on the apron. The ref counts to 10 and says it’s a count-out. There is some confusion so the ref says “it’s a count of 20 on the outside. A count of 10 on the apron.
And I’m Like… I want to say that was meant for something. It didn’t move a story forward, the finish did not leave to anything, and at the end EVERYONE was disappointed.В
Oh who are these guys you ask? Just the possible referees for the title match between Ric Flair and Kerry Von Erich. See what happened is David Manning the guy on the left, is a ref, Bronko Lubich on the right is also a ref. They don’t think the last title match was refereed correctly. So, there is a contest the fans get to vote on. They get to choose who the referee will be for the Cage Title Match against Flair and Von Erich. They also get to choose who the enforcer will be also. The fans chia Michael Hayes.
And I’m Like… The sole reason that is in here is to add legitimacy to the match. I’ve never seen anything like this, I am a big fan. Not of the segment though, that was bland. The idea of the segment is great.В
Gary Hart interview-В
Gary starts talking about how he has the best team in the 6-Man tag title tournament. He has The Great Kabuki, Magic Dragon and Checkmate.
King Kong Bundy, Bill Irwin, and The Spoiler show up. Bundy says winning team gets $50,000 and a Mercedes. Bundy makes sure to point out that he is not apart of Harts crew. Gary says he has five guys that could possibly win and things are smellin sweet.
Al Madril, Brian Adias, Bugsy McGraw are here to talk about the tournament. Al said these are exciting like mini battle royals. Bugsy says “there will be elbows dropping, kicking, scratchin’, GET IT!”
Great Kabuki, Magic Dragon, and Checkmate vs. Bugsy McGraw, Al Madril and Brian Adias
The Great Kabuki vs.В Rocky Johnson
I was looking for Magic Dragon matches and I found a link of this episode.В Here is the rest of the stars on the card.
В For real though… Where does Kabuki get his masks? Every week they are amazing. Kabuki starts the match.
Al Madril tagged in fast, he does his headlock closed fist punches, which are HIGHLY ILLEGAL! The ref let’s it slide, like a lot in this match. Once Bugsy tags in the older women go wild!
Look at that though! Kabuki and Checkmate are telling the ref that ALLL THE GUYS! Are in the ring, Bronko just watches the match and let’s it sort itself out. Terrible.
Checkmate tags in, his theme is to never get out wrestled. I don’t know if it is legit or not, or who set up the match, but Checkmate never gets beat up unless Bugsy is in the ring.
The crowd cheers the whole time for whatever babyfave is in the ring. “Go Al Go” “Go Bugsy Go” “Go Brian Go” THE WHOLE MATCH THO! Magic Dragon was kicking ass, but Bugsy came in and hit Dragon, Bronko takes Bugsy into the corner and Dragon throws Adias into Kabuki’s knee for the win.
В And I’m Like… I’m so happy those cheating ass good guys lost. The only time the cheating actually worked was when the bad guys did it behind Bronkos back. Bronko is clearly bias, during the ‘ref interview’ Bronko says he has seen two world title changes as referee the most ever. He says he isn’t bias but he thinks Kerry will win. In this match he obviously was pulling for the good guys.В
Now we are on to the hottest segment of the night. Flair and Fritz Von Erich have a interview in separate studios. Here are the pictures of Flair getting more and more crazy. Notice the f’n scars on his head too, how many times did dude bleed in his life?В

В
Also do you see as it progresses Fritz knows he just got schooled at promo class. He can also tell that his boys cannot hold a candle to this man. David Von Erich has a chance.В
- Flair says time is money so let’s hurry this up.
- Flair points out that even if there is evidence that he paid Gary Hart to take Kerry out of the title picture.
- He says if he doesn’t admit it, it didn’t happen.
- He puts himself over as being wealthy, having ladies, the usual Flair.
- Flair understood the art of promos. Get yourself and character over, then hype the match, possibly if there is time, put your opponent over.
- Flair says the whole damn state of Texas has some nerve to say Kerry is the uncrowned champion.
- Flair can’t believe someone as gorgeous as him will be put in a cage.
- Fritz kept getting angry, but he didn’t have much to say outside of old man yelling “get of my lawn” type stuff.
- Flair ends by saying “your family is trying to end my career by putting me into a cage, Fritz, there will be consequences, and I will hold this title for a long long time, WOOOO!”
And I’m Like… That was so intense, I mean growing up I’ve seen FlairВ beat up his clothes, В and also cutВ an amazing promo on Eric Bischoff . This was crazy good though, WCCW hypes matches very well.В
Kevin cannot speak well. He may wrestle well, but Fritz only passed his passionate speaking ability to David.
Kevin Von Erich vs. King Kong Bundy
Holy shit, Mercer says Bundy lost his hair and eyebrows to the Von Erichs earlier in the year!?!? Why did I never know about this? Does anybody know? It must be the same creamВ The Realest Guys in the Room В used in Marcus Louis.
The match is surprisingly back and forth. I thought Bundy would be very ‘immovable’ but Kevin handles him easily. Bundy resorts to eye gouges but Kevin fights back withВ The Claw .
В The match ends when Bundy throws Kevin into the corner and Kevin hits referee David Manning over the top rope. The Ref takes a crazy bump.
В Then Bundy throws Kevin out of the ring. Once Von Erich climbs on the apron, Bundy hits the suplex for the win.
And I’m Like… Bundy was right, Kevin as champion is a joke! These finishes might be screwy but they are creative. Be it the apron 10 count, or the ref going over the top rope. WCCW knew how to keep things interesting. Another episode building to the big cage match and I am legit excited for something that happened 33 years ago!В
You all have a good one.В
