I get up at 1:50 am to get to the restaurant by 2, to prep and be open by 5. There was no rain for about 45 minutes, just lightening. I got behind on my whole day watching the storm. I also watched the GOP debate last night so had to watch NXT with to regulars. They aren’t wrestling fans and later in the show I got emotional and had to go to the back anyway.

We start with a highlight package of Breeze’s beat down on Bull.

Then Adam Rose comes out doing a Right to Censor type gimmick.

He comes out and says WWE’s universe took a hot steamy poop on his party. I wonder, does poop actually steam? Like, I know if you poo in -0 degree weather it will steam cause I’m from Minnesota. Does it actually steam in non-cold weather though?

Annnnnyyywwaaayyyss. There is a “Party Pooper” chant because of course.

Before match can start Bull Dempsey comes out.

Bullfit chants fill the arena and at the end you hear a perfect You Can Do It!

Bull gets a “Bull is Gorgeous” chant and he and Breeze let the crowd tire themselves out before continuing. Bull asks Adam Rose if he can have a match with Breeze in Adams place. Rose says no and gets beat up. Breeze leaves and we get a match for next week.

And I’m Like… We opened the show with a promo? This feels like it should just happen this one time. This opening felt too much like Raw-lite to me.

We catch up with Tyler being mad and challenging Bull for next week.

Tye Dillenger vs. Danny Burch

Rich was gonna let us know that Tye Dillenger was going up against Danny Burch but Gravea cut him off and we never got an entrance, intro, or name announced for Danny Burch.

Tye Does this weird abdominal stretch type deal.

He does a 10 taunt after that, he also does a cartwheel that he thinks is a perfect 10 so he must have had Sandow teach him.

Tye does these subtle shoulder movements that get the crowd to say “10”, which leads into his 2/5 moves of doom.

He does a rolling Russian leg sweep like Damien , which makes me think he trains with storyline Sandow. That leg sweep sets up for his yet to be named finisher.

And I’m Like… That knee pad thing is nice, Tye lowers it to hit his finish. I can’t wait for someone to reverse it and do damage to his unprotected knee.

Rhyno says he is more worried about what Corbin will do to Ciampa and Gargano than having them in a match. Corbin says they aren’t looking past them but threw them.

Asuka has her video package. She has an eerie baby doll face reminiscent of Great Kabuki.

Apollo Crews vs. Solomon Crowe
When Crowes music hits, it has the same effect for the match that a guy with no entrance has.  SQUASH!

And guess what’s? They were even for a bit until this moment.

Crowe kicks Apollos hand away. Apollo starts doing his flippy strong shit. Then Crowe turns the tables with an innovative apron spot that Drew McIntyre used to use.

Graves tries to say Crowe is the “keyboard warrior and King of the internet”… Corey? Do you know about B.A.D. Day? Now Corey is talking about googling things. Omigod Shuuuuuut Uuuup!!!

Mid-match and they are trading submissions and rest holds. Crews then hit his five moves. Running double axe handles, jumping heel kick, jumping clothesline, gorilla press, and standing moonsault for the win.

And I’m Like… Conditioned to Crews now, still not my cup of tea. This match was better than I thought it would be.

Gargano and Ciampa said they deserve to be in NXT, they beat Bull and Breeze. No one should question if they earn their keep.

Dana Brooke and Emma say to Devin “The sooner you Shhhhh! The sooner we talk” Dana says playtime is over then does a remix headpat.

Now we get a recap of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Kyle Edwards says the Hype Bros and Vaudevillians both advanced.

Ciampa and Gargano vs. Corbin and Rhyno

Ciampa and Rhyno do a chop fest early on and they sound like gunshots.

Gargano and Ciampa do great team work. They double team, quick tags, they are well oiled machine. Gargano is going for broke though. Dude is on fire! He does moves that he did last week so Iget to enjoy his signatures. Then we start diving.

These “indie” guys just got Full Sail to go “NXT, NXT, NXT” that is really saying something.  God bless Rhyno for taking all this offense and letting these guys shine.

Ciampa tried to use his quickness to best Baron. My brain shut off Corey Graves about halfway through the show, but this stuck out to me. “The NXT universe doesn’t like Baron cause he doesn’t have this story of ‘I always wanted to be a wrestler’ he is just good at life”. On point Corey.

Gargano hit a bunch of moves and hit a cool DDT.

Corbin and Rhyno end up winning with the End Of Days by Baron.

And I’m Like… I hope to see more of these two out the tournament and in NXT. The Baron Corbin “better than the Indies” gimmick is starting to take hold too.

Devin asks about the Vaudevillians match against Dawson and Dash. They ignore the question to talk about how  honored they are to be in the tournament, Aiden also tries to make fetch happen with indubitably.

Then the former champs show up in their sweet t-shirts.

They say they will cash in their rematch clause next week. So there is a title match next week!

Bayleys Championship celebration match.

First let’s Celebrate with Bayley and Izzy. By the way I’m all Pavlov’s Dog with over emotion and Bayleys theme song.

You guys. I was writing this at a table in the restaurant when I got all emotional from wrestling allergies. Holy Shit this is so awesome.  Fuckin call me Maple cause I’m sappy. I had to go finish this in the back cause the public tears.

I’m not ready for this to crash. Eventually Izzy and us have to learn how to handle defeat.

Bayley vs. Sara Dobson

I love to hate Sara cause her last name is Dobson . She is just as aggressive and innovative, she is making you remember her. She is no match for the champ though. Bayley hits her five moves running double axe handles, Running corner spear, suplex, Belly to Bayley.

And then she grabs the mic to say “Holy Moley”

holy shit wrestling is too much for me sometimes. Emotions from Brooklyn are percolating. Sasha says she came out to congratulate Bayley.

She talks about having the “best match in WWE women’s history.” Look at the pride on her face when she finishes that line.

She said she is not here for good matches, or stealing the show. She wants to be the best and beat Bayley over and over and over until everyone knows fairy tales don’t have happy endings. This brings out.

This little devil who makes the main event of the next Takeover event. The crowd chants it, I can’t believe it, but 30 minute ironwoman match. We’re not worthy. I’m not ready for this at all. The announcement got a Holy Shit chant because duh!

And I’m Like… Piss my pants excited. It’s almost lunch rush though so I gotta head out.

Have a good one.

Hey how’s it going… Yeah, I ain’t got much to say, let’s get to it!

The Authority Promo

And I’m Like… That was nice quick and easy, I can handle that weekly. Also I was watching that M&M commercial and is Red the same voice as Fry from Futurama?

WWE Tag Team Titles- Prime Time Players vs. New Day(c)

And I’m Like… New Day are the best part of the show usually. It’s because they are excited about what they are doing, are having fun, are creative, and overall very talented. I am sorry for whoever is on the screen with them, because to get noticed they really have to step up the game. New Day are the MOST entertaining.

We see a Sting video of him in Starrcade ’88. We hear from Seth Rollins talking about how he doesn’t like Cena, Sheamus, and Sting. The Authority tries and help their favorite by setting up matches with all of the people Seth doesn’t like. Then Steph wants to have fun and clap again, HHH lets her know he isn’t into that stuff… I don’t know how to feel, it’s like, in public he is there with her, in private he is all “for real I’m not into it, so if we are alone.. no. BUT IN PUBLIC!!”

A video of Charlotte tapping Nikki out, and we get a way to much make-up’d Rene Young interviewing Charlotte and Ric Flair. Rene asks Charlotte how she is preparing for Nikki. Charlotte sounds like the scriptyest talker. She also has tons of like glitter spots? on her face? Ugh, sorry, I just don’t like her, Ric is so stoked though, he is like WWE’s Joe Biden. Says it like it is and is emotional as hell.

Paige vs. Sasha Banks

And I’m Like… There is nothing more to want than see your favorite wrestler do their thing and win…

There is a Connor The Crusher video again… For real my heart melts into so much Alex Mack puddles when these cancer videos happen. There is a video goin on the internet of after Raw where Cena and Sting talk to this girl who beat cancer. I cry just as much. I lost my mom to a medical disease, to see kids beat it, fight it, struggle it, and live life. It moves me so much you guys, that is such strength, and most kids don’t realize that what they go threw isn’t what life is. Their life is legit, doctors and pain all the time. To be someone who hasn’t felt that physically, and know what these kids are capable of mentally, it just shakes me so much that people this mentally strong have had to deal with such a weak fucking body. WWE is fucking awesome sometimes, they make a moment that will carry those kids through tough times.

Miz TV with The Wyatts

And I’m Like… Roman got a little ghetto with his delivery, sounded like an Uso. The crowd yells FIGHT!! but they don’t. Now we see Sting vs. Flair at Great American Bash 1990 were he won the World Title for the first time.

John Cena vs. Sheamus

And I’m Like fast forwarding this at 3x and I can only make out all the signature spots, Cena does some of Sheamus’ There is a yay/boo spot, some finisher reversals, near falls (I can tell from long zoom ins on the face.) Cena wins with the AA..lol

The Ryback promo

And I’m Like… Owens would make a great Intercontinental Champion, but Ryback is doing a great job. He is giving his belt to make-a-wish kids, having storyline feuds that aren’t just about the title, and wins non-title matches. I am excited for this match!!

Cosmic Wasteland vs. Neville and Lucha Dragons

And I’m Like… Surprised the match is over?? The ref legit ran out the ring when shit broke down… That makes sense on why all that happened.. ok. Glad they got time?

We Get a Nikki video package about how she has been a champion for a year. She is the worst, I say the worst when I feel like the person is not genuine. She might really care about wrestling, she talks about proving herself, which she did. She just seems SO FAKE I can’t take it. It might be her voice, or her not being Sasha Banks so I get biased. I don’t like Charlotte for those same reasons.

Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte

And I’m Like… Stephanie comes out to break the news that she saw Brie sneak in the match. Ric was backstage too and did not see it lol. Steph breaks the news to Charlotte that she won by DQ. Nikki is longest reigning champion and Charlotte will beat her Sunday. I hope Nikki busts out an arm finisher. Steph makes it where if Nikki loses in any fashion, even count-out or DQ, she will lose the belt.

Rusev vs. Cesaro

And I’m Like… Cesaro won off distraction.. Ziggler is making me for real mad…. He comes out and forces a gift on Summer, she says no a bunch and tries to pay attenton to Rusev’s match. Rusev loses cause he sees the asshole hitting on his girlfriend and not taking no for an answer. Then Rusev just gets kicked in the face. I have never felt such hatred for a person. Respect the fuckin relationship Dolph. Be with Lana if you like her, if someone says no they mean no, don’t just kick a guy cause he used to date the girl you date and dates the girl you like. YOU ARE A COMPLETE DICK AND BALLS

We come back and we see that Summer was acting like she was innocent, she said she did nothing wrong… BULL SHIT she grabbed the gift and opened it. Cheaters fucking suck you guys, manipulation is very bad. Why lie? why fuck with peoples emotions? Please tell me we will be cheering Rusev soon, cause I don’t see how I will ever feel better about this storyline unless Ziggler is crushed Summer is dumped and Rusev just continues to do him. This has become way too personal for me. Which sucks cause I talk about how this doesn’t matter and how its a bad storyline, but it has me having real feelings, so something is being done right.

Big Show vs. Sting

John Cena and Sting vs. Rollins and Show

And I’m Like… The mime who loves the movie the Crow and Scorpion themed moveset and name comes out on top over Seth Rollins. That match was fun, I keep thinking about what happens next when Sting and Cena tell the arena that this little girl beat cancer and everyone Yes’s…

I’ll see ya’ll later, I gotta go to bed. Have a good one! but click the like and share and stuff too if ya can, that would be nice. It’s like letting me know that you have looked at this and read it and stuff…

Opening Interview

Dj Draper was about to interview Antonio Marquez about his recent winning streak. Rob James had other plans.

James told Marquez “Not only am I better than you, I’m 6% body fat and 94% better than you.” Then Antonio was attacked from behind by Josh Price.

Price and James tell Marquez “Good luck finding a tag team partner tonight.”

We get some advertising for upcoming shows!

There ya go.  Try and support local wrestling if you can. Just don’t be like ‘dem assholes from Fargo’

Rob James comes out with Josh Price and their manager local North Dakota disc jockey Chris Tubbs. As Rob struggles to remove his Zubaz .

Dem Assholes chant “what a joke” followed up by “you’ll never get the call.” When Rob James says “go back to your farms!” They chanted “suck it.”

Problem with all this, it’s advertised as an all ages show. Dem Assholes are very cruel. They are just Poop Scootin Boogie is what they are.

James, Tubbs, and Price rip on some North Dakota sports team to get boo’s.

Marquez comes out with his tag team partner, one of the former Kings of Wrestling, Arik Cannon!

To counter Chris Tubbs the good guys bring out this Rob Ford looking dude.

Like holy shit, that’s Rob Ford right?

Antonio Marquez and Erik Cannon w/ Derrick Hanson vs. Rob James and Josh Price w/Chris Tubbs

The editing needs some work. We go from seeing Rob James trying to do a kip up, to like 30 seconds later when Marquez gets hit from behind.

Now I’m about to talk a lot about the commentary in this match. I usually only bring up commentary if it is the shits or if it’s relevant and progressing the story.

The referee is James Benson. Which should be noted because when Rob James cheated, commentators Dj Draper said this “How is James Benson able to get away with… Letting this work like this.”

Arik comes in with beautiful arm drags and a hip toss elbow combo for two. Marquez and Cannon did an assisted hurricanrana.  Dj Draper asks his co-commentator Tony Denucci how his chicken breast is. “So good I want another one, I need my protein” wow you guys. That really helps the match.

Here is some more talking as wrestling happens “Rob James gave me his selfie stick, I don’t know if it’s sterile or where it’s been” -Dj Draper “I can put it somewhere if they keep taking selfies. Can you imagine the state fair? These are worse than cancer”- Dj Draper. He then notices his mistake “I apologize to anyone with cancel but these are awful”

Marquez is doing flippy stuff but it’s so damn dangerous. Here is a photo of Antonio, Denucci says he is 20 feet in the air!

Marquez also tries to throw some kicks but they are snuggle sawft.

Here is a pin attempt. Can you see what is wrong? Remember this is not a kick out, it’s a pin.

Yep he hooked the arm. These guys are trying, it’s just… Everything about this show feels forced, it makes me respect the organic moments in wrestling more.

This beating is a long one. Tony says “Antonio is getting beat up, but this is wrestling, so that can change at any minute.”

Arik Cannon gets the hot tag and is a house of fire. He gets the crowd hype, Cannon is a treasure. He tags Marquez for what Tony calls “35 foot shooting star”.

That is scary.

And I’m Like… That was a pretty good match, once the commentary is more genuine and immersive in the product, this show will be entertaining. The self containing episodes and advertising for upcoming shows are good too.

So PPW starts with the Whirlwind Gentlemen taking “us” backstage.

I have no idea what this was about.

The show starts with

Whirlwind Gentlemen Vs. Amerikan Gunz

It was really hard to pay attention to the match. First Tony Denucci talks about how good his chicken breast is, then this.

What the hell is that? A chicken platter plate? What wrestling venue sells chicken platters.

The match is typical Whirlwind Gentlemen. Jack Manly gets beat up, hot tags, Marcel gets the W.

Amerikan Gunz take Christian Coles belt, they whip the Gentlemen.

Striker comes out and announced that next week it’s the Gunz and Gentlemen in a strap match.

Wes Brisco vs. Darin Corbin

Here are the entrances.

There is PPW lady, loving Wes.

Now my favorite red head from Minnesota.

This guy knows what’s up. This kid does not.

Last week he threatened to punch a kid, we are one step closer!

Oh no this food is so good she is sharing! Let’s hope the match is good!

So black shirt stopped eating to approve of Wes’ booty. Blue shirt is still into the food.

The crowd chants for Wes and that makes me sad. As Wes barrel rolls Corbin screeches and I smile. Corbin does a comedy spot where he hits his own head into the corner.

The ladies stopped eating the chicken.  Wes gets “extreme” says Todd Aikin as Brisco does a flying cross body.  Corbin gets himself a DQ loss but keeps the belt.

And I’m Like… That was fun and I’m so glad Wes isn’t champ. I want these ladies back every week. Like Dinner and a Movie .

Obsessed With Sleaze vs. Crash and Stash Connection

Eric Right does this thing where he gives out mustaches to kids in the crowd. This gives us the cutest creepiest kid moment.

That picture tho.

The match is really good. With Konely and Ryan you knew it would be though.

Lisa Marie is miles ahead of Christian Cole and the Cuban Assassin in managing. Her body reacts to every move. She will smirk or grimace at just the right time.

The match ends when Eric Right gets distracted by Lisa Marie. Then catches a super kick from Joey Ryan for the loss.

And I’m Like… That was a fun and entertaining match. Nothing too spectacular but it fit perfect in the show. Not much else to say but good job.

Jessy Sorensen vs. Chamberlain

Chamberlain asks to be announced as champion before the match even happens.

As Jessy comes out I start to realize what a champion he looks like. He totally carries himself with the confidence needed to be a company’s champion.

The platter  ladies do not approve of any booty in this match. It’s not long before Hammerstone interferes on Chamberlains behalf. Wes Brisco comes out to help and Striker announces a NO DQ tag match for next week.

And I’m Like… Sometimes the matches click, sometimes they don’t. Here was a time it didn’t.

This was a good night for PPW. Better than that pine box crap from last week.

Raw starts soon, so Yall have a good one and I’ll see ya later to pay more dues

Be sure to like and share and all that. Much appreciated.

Welcome back to Old School, I hope you had a good week. Please like or share or verbally tell a friend. Anything to spread the word. В

Bill Mercer and Jay Saldi welcome us to the show. They say the most important thing tonight is King Kong Bundy telling us why he told Fritz Von Erich that Flair was behind the bounty. Now to the ring for some action. I wrote about the wrestlersВ and their biographies В in previous posts. So if we have covered someone I will post an older match of them.

Bugsy McGraw and Al Madril vs. Wild Bill Irwin and Checkmate

Bugsy McGraw- Here is a fullВ episode of Memphis В wrestling. Jump to the 20 minute mark to see Bugsy wrestle.

Al Madril –В A match with Matt Borne В who was the former Doink the Clown

Wild Bill Irwin-В vs. Ric Flair

Checkmate- Full episode of Memphis againВ 6:50 is the Tony Charles interview

The match-В

В В
Since King Kong Bundy quit H&H Limited, Bill Irwin needed a new tag team partner, Checkmate filled the role.В He is also wearing a Tiger Mask . В Bugsy is known as the Man-Child says Bill Mercer.

Four minutes in and Bugsy finally stops playing to the crowd. They do a collar and elbow, the crowd says “go Bugsy go”. Bugsy does a move Mercer calls “The Trap” it is aВ criss-cross В where McGraw stops and the other guy trips over Bugsy. An awesome spot happens where Irwin had Bugsy in a headlock, asks Checkmate for advice. Starts to punch Bugsy, tags Checkmate in and Bugsy does a throw back to last week and armadillos!!

В As you can see Al Madril loves it. Bugsy tags in Al and Checkmate plays afraid.

В Checkmate does this for a bit until he can counter and then starts on the offensive. Checkmate then starts working over Madrils wrist! It’s cool cause I’m used to arm work, little nuances like that are fun. Checkmate tags Irwin in, Aldi points out Wild Bill beat Al for the American Heavyweight Championship. Al never got retribution because Bill lost the title to David Von Erich. Wild Bill and Checkmate are a fun technical/brawler team that remind me of my favorite teamВ The Hart Foundation.

If you wanna know what over half my regulars look like, scroll back up and look at Bugsy McGraw. Bugsy comes back in and does his swing punch. Al and McGraw double team as the announcers point out how the referees letting things slide. Irwin was getting beat up and gets Madril in a hold while Checkmate stomps his chest, Irwin gets the three count on a weird pin.

В Bugsy and another ref come in and a brawl breaks out as the refs talk.

В В
В В

King Kong Bundy even gets involved cause even though he is not attached to H&H Limited, he still is friends with Wild Bill. The referees reverse the decision, so McGraw and Madril won.

And I’m Like… Bugsy is really starting to grind my gears. He seems to be aimed at children. Checkmate is fun no matter what. I did like the armadillo spot though.В

Destroyer II vs.В The Yellow Rose Of Texas В David Von Erich

Destroyer II –В vs. Renesto

David Von Erich-В vs. Ric Flair В a month before this, it was the match that David wanted vengeance for cause Kerry was just injured by Kabuki.В

The Match-В

В В

David is so much fun, he is putting the match on hold so he can finish signing autographs. I can’t describe it but David has an aura about him. He is a star you know? His facial expressions, taunts, moves, crowd play, off the charts charisma, he is world champion material. В They cut to a kid in the crowd telling David to break Destroyers arm.

В David hits this knee drop like 4 times in a row for the three count.

And I’m Like… It was a fast match but I’m glad I watched it. David was such a talent, I’m happy I get to see some of his work.В

Fabolous Freebirds vs. Kabuki Dragon w/ Armand HusseinВ

Freebirds-В Promo with David Von Erich.

Kabuki Dragon-В vs. Von Erichs in a tag.

The Match-

В В
В В

So the Freebirds brought a gorilla suit guyВ ala Trigger Happy TV . He points at Kabuki who is unphased.

В В

He blows extra green must just in case. Saldi says they bring a unique blend of martial arts and rule breaking. There is some brawling, and tags. Terry was keeping a distance until he could gain an advantage. They cut to a fan yelling “PILEDRIVER”

В Lol.

It’s weird seeing every wrestler not wear knee pads, all dress the same, it’s like the indies. The WWE seems to make larger than life figures, while everyone else makes wrestlers seem like everyday guys just a little cooler. Announcers say there is no other rule breakers as tough as Kabuki. Kabuki handles the Freebirds on his own.

В В
В Stomach grabs and nerve holds. He tags in Dragon who loses the match for them.

And I’m Like… I expected more from this match, what the hell was the gorilla for? This was just a match to show that the Freebirds are tough competition for anyone.В

King Kong Bundy Interview-В

В В
В So here we go, Flair paid Gary Hart to have Great Kabuki take out Kerry Von Erich. King Kong Bundy charged Fritz up to ten grand for the information. Fritz said he will only pay five grand, Bundy took it. Bundy explains that when he worked for H&H Limited, Gary sent him to Georgia to collect Flairs money. Bundy made a copy of the check, when Hart cashed it Bundy called Fritz. Bundy then calls out Kabuki.

Mercer tries to call Flair, he gets someone named Nora Jean from Ric Flair Enterprises.

And I’m Like… I enjoy a well thought out story. В

Killer Tim Brooks vs. Kerry Von Erich

Tim Brooks- All I found is stuff that happened after 1982. HeВ Sorta looks В like Bull Dempsey

Kerry Von Erich- Being a Von Erich he won a bunch of titles in between his debut in 1979 and now. He isn’t up to David’s level but he is considered world champion material. Part of the www Hall of Fame in 2009.В

В В

В В
Kerry put a head scissors on Brooks and got his entrance gear off. It’s his first match back since injury and boy is it boring. He wins with a sunset flip.

В В
After the match he says he wants Flair in a match next month.

And I’m Like… That was a good show. Mercer was right when he said Bundy was the most important thing on the show.В

See you tomorrow have a good one.В

I am at work with the wife and it is slow so I’m able to write about the NXT. My restaurant is located in a strip mall with the DMV so I have a lot of strangers giving me weird looks having NXT on while pouring them coffee.

NXT- Not sure if it started with intro video, was showing someone to the bathroom

Carmella vs. Peyton Royce

Peyton is new, like a lot of the competitors tonight. Not new to wrestling, been at it for 6 years. New to me though, and I’ll cheer for her cause it’s hard to get behind a Staten Island Girl .

Carmella and Peyton bump fists and high five, which leads me to believe they both fight for the good side.

Some basic wrestling but it is smooth and fluid, no clunky or awkward spots. Carmella goes for a pin, but doesn’t get Royce’s shoulders down all the way. Peyton rolls out of the pin and Carmella moonwalks like Michael P.S. Hayes as Corey Graves points out.

Carmella is starting to develop her signature spots and taunts. I’m surprised how much Carmella has improved in the past year. That could be due to the other women getting called up, so she has more time to work in front of a crowd.

Peyton Royce also showed a significant kick spot.

She just got done roundhouse kicking Carmella in the face and she then takes her right leg and back kicks in between the ropes.

Carmella takes another step in establishing her name in the women’s division with a submission victory.

And I’m Like… I don’t know if Carmella has improved that much or if Peyton is so good she raised Carmella’s performance. These girls just need a bit more chemistry and it will be fantastic.

Finn and Joe talk about their match with the Lucha Dragons.

Finn says let’s do it for Dusty, Joe reminds Finn to grab his championship belt before he leaves. It’s either forgetful Finn or foreshadowing a Joe alignment turn in the tournament. Cause you can’t spell tournament without turn.

We get footage of NXT live events where round one tag matches were happening.

Enzo and Cass beat Dawkins and Sawyer

Dawson and Dash beat The Drifter and Tucker Knight. Dawson and Wilder need a name, they lost The Mechanics, maybe Wrestling Inc. I don’t know!

We get a Nia Jax video. It’s pronounce N-eye-ah I keep saying knee-ya.

Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs. Bull Dempsey and Tyler Breeze

I am somewhat familiar with Ciampa from his work in ROH . I’ve only heard of Gargano but never seen him work.

Bull’s theme song is so forced, he is growing on me, just not his theme song.

Graves says he knows a lot about these two new guys. “Gargano is very talented, Ciampa sticks his tongue out a lot.”

The story of the match revolves around Tyler and Bull not really getting along. Breeze seems to get beat up while Bull becomes an immovable object for a while. The crowd chants “Bull is Gorgeous” and “Buuulfit”. Bull taunts to Breeze as if to say “how are you having trouble with these guys?”

Tyler tags back in and Gargano hits an impressive flurry.

The last move is a reverse neckbreaker with a bit of pizazz. Johnny maximized his minutes and went ‘full Owens’ as in, in the debut match hit a shit load of high energy offense so people will remember you.

Once Tyler tags out he takes Johnnys momentum with him. Gargano runs into the brick wall that is Bull Dempsey.

Ciampa tags in and gets to show off his chosen offense of knees, stomps, and tons of headlocks. Tommaso tags out, Gargano kicks Breeze off the apron. Miscommunication on Bull and Breeze leads to the underdog victory for Gargano and Ciampa.

And I’m Like… A lot happened in a little bit of time. I went in excited to watch Tommaso Ciampa in a WWE ring, I left the match wanting to see more from Johnny Gargano.

Breeze post match attacks Dempsey and the feud of the someone who is vain and hateful vs. Somone who is changing to become better.

Lucha Dragons talk but my Spanish is up to par. It’ll be better once I finish my Spanish classes. Kalisto does say he wants to win for Dusty.

Dana Brooke says she is mad she beat Bayley, and Bayley is now champion. She gets all Seth Rollins about her interview where she has one point and reiterates it for 3 minutes. Pats Devin on the head too.

Tye Dillenger video. All it shows is the number 10 and the crowd saying 10….

Dana Brooke vs. Billy Kay

As Dana makes her entrance she does her signature pose FIVE times! She needs to learn new poses or do the one she knows less.

The crowd starts with a “we love Dana/No we don’t”

Every move Dana tries is reversed by Billy. Billy only does headlocks though, so their match reminds me of a football game. A lot of action then wait. Billy actually hit a flying head scissors, but quickly reapplied a headlock.

Dana does a chokehold in the corner. I like the move cause it makes her stand out and is easily reversible. Any signature spot that looks nice and can be reversed wins me over quickly.

And I’m Like… As Dana gets the win, we inch closer to having developed characters having good matches again on the NXT women’s undercard.

Apollo Crews says Apollo Nation is gonna take over NXT.

Then I get choked up cause…

IZZY YOU GUYS! She gets to see her hero and celebrate Bayleys victory together. She is like Bayleys 12th Fan.

We are taken to a Smackdown! Taping where round one of the Dusty Tag Classic continues.

Finn BГЎlor and Samoa Joe vs. Lucha Dragons

We are in Rhode Island and Finn comes out in a leather jacket and does that Paige thing when he opens the jacket. As he makes his entrance you can tell the majority of the crowd does not watch NXT.

Instantly it’s easy to hear that, Jimmy and Tom are not familiar with NXT by the amount of silence in this match.

I don’t watch Smackdown so I can’t say for sure. But damn why is Jimmy so bad at commentary?

It’s weird seeing Finn get beat up by Sin Cara. I wonder what it’s like for strictly WWE fans seeing these jabronis beat up the Lucha Dragons?

The 450 monkey flip scares me so much. It seems so dangerous.

Finn was getting it taken to him pretty bad, once he hit the hot tag though, the crowd erupted. That is a testament to the ability of these four performers. Let’s be honest, not too many people in the WWE universe care about the Lucha Dragons and the ‘NXT Unknowns’, yet they care about how this match will end.

Kalisto gets caught in the Muscle Buster followed by the Coup de GrГўce.

And I’m Like… That match was fun, I’m just wondering when their worlds collide and Joe steps up for a title shot.

I started this at about 4:30 am it is now 11:45 am. It was a steady day at work but slow enough to get this done early.

Please like, comment, share, tweet, page , or verbally tell someone if you could. I gotta get ready for lunch rush. Yall have a good one.

Happy Labor Day weekend! I worked yesterday and man was it busy, today not so much. I still had to move our new sofa and chair into the apartment. Well, I didn’t have to but the movers did. Good news is, after 10 hours of work, and 3 hours of running errands I still have time to watch Raw!

Seth Rollins Promo

And I’m Like… That was blah! It didn’t really move the needle in storytelling of stuff we didn’t already know. It just let us know Seth thinks he is the greatest and doesn’t like Sting. Sting likes Seth’s statue and asked him to meet him in a location no one knows but Sting. Sheamus likes the fact he has a briefcase that can get him a title.

Sasha Banks vs. Paige

And I’m Like… Please get these girls into some stories I can emotionally invest into. You have eight or nine girls with differing personalities, there should be conflict. The story is these girls want to work together to make women’s wrestling better, by working together they have to fight each other. That should be the storyline behind the scenes, not in front of the curtain.

The Ascension vs. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose

And I’m Like… It’s interesting who they will choose, it could be a Randy Orton, or a debuting new guy, or a Erick Rowan. This is the story we are working with, it went from we don’t like each other so we fight like cats and dogs to we have three guys you have two. I am interested in where this goes.

Ryback has a promo, I noticed how the interviewers don’t ask questions anymore. “Ryback tonight you face Seth Rollins…” Then give the mic to the wrestler and he goes into promo mode. Ryback speaks in such a robotic matter, unless he says THE BIG GUY or mimes him doing the Shellshock. He said he is a fighting champion, Owens showed up and made some puns because I love puns and Kevin Owens.

Ryback vs. Seth Rollins

And I’m Like… Nevermind Sting trying to be all Stardust about shit. That little kid gave Ryback the IC Title back, but not before asking “Are you alright?!?” OH MY GOD!! This kid witnesses Ryback winning and all he cares about is getting that Big Guy his title and making sure he is alright… I LOVE THAT

New Day talks to Seth in the back. They are the epitome of maximizing their minutes. They are obviously having fun, and are talented enough to not let it get in the way of being very good on television. Edge and Christian show up and remind us about dumb story lines and Christians non-retirement retirement. Edge vs. Rollins would have been fun though, Rollins points out how he is an opportunist like Edge.

Xavier chants “Battle” with a trombone in hand, I thought they were going for “YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME” but they did some video game song. Then Big E ate Christians kazoo. Dudleys show up and its weird how old Edge and Christian look. How are the Dudleys still doing it? They were in so much extreme and hardcore matches, they wrestled anywhere, amazing longevity…

Summer Rae comes out… Rusev accepts her apology and Ziggler comes out. Rusev walks away after getting superkicked. They talked about Lana alot.

And I’m Like… so done with this. I must not be target market.

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

And I’m Like… They hit all their signature spots, they went hard. I am so impressed with Orton and Sheamus, they must know how complacent the viewers are with their pairing. They still get all their moves in, they still do not phone it in, by the end of the match, the crowd is boo’ing and cheer’ing and counting with the ref during the nearfalls. That’s how I decide if the crowd liked the match or bought into the story that was being told, if they count with the ref. Not just saying “TWWOOO” but the ONE TWO AHHHH!

Wyatts come out and beat up Orton, cause Orton was talking to Dean and Roman. So we know who the 3rd man is….

By the way, there are so many itchy vagina commercials on Raw, its crazy. I know there is a pun there, but I’ll let you make the joke.

The Dudley Boys vs. Los Matadores

And I’m Like… Nostalgia is fun and all, but they need a story.. Have they ever had a storyline? Come to think of it, I can’t come to think of one. Just as I ask who is the heel, the Matadores beat up Torito. Devon sees it and convinces Bubba they should help out Torito. There was our table spot of the night.

Cesaro vs. The Miz

And I’m Like… It is so quiet… They can’t really make the viewer feel emotion on anything if the live crowd does not respond to the events. Imagine watching a superhero movie and all this destruction is happening, but all the civilians are just going about their daily business.

The Bellas come out to talk… They do the Seth Rollins thing where they say the same thing over and over… I really wanna fast forward, but I feel a match is going to happen. Nikki says “you can’t deny that Team Bella lead the revolution after I break the record” She was champion before the revolution so that makes no sense. Charlotte comes out.

Is there going to be a match or is Charlotte going to be all awkward? “Nikki Nikki Nikki, we all know I LOVE A PARTY, but for some reason you didn’t invite us. So I went to The Authority and got my title match next week” Yep its awkward, she wants to beat Nikki cause she wasn’t invited to Nikki’s party. THE REVOLUTION IS TELEVISED!!

John Cena and Prime Time Players vs. Seth Rollins and New Day

And I’m Like… The end kind of whimpered, the story of the episode was Seth Rollins lost two matches and can’t get his trophy. HHH tried to set him up tonight to prepare him for Night of Champions. If Seth keeps getting the deck stacked against him, we might have to cheer for his victories. A good way for a long term champion is an alignment turn during the reign. See Seth is like The Authority’s child. They want to keep him in line, they want to see him succeed. At the same time, he is too big headed, so they set him up to fail, to either change his attitude, or to keep him under their thumb. He continues to defy expectations, soon enough he will out grow HHH and I hope its written so we cheer him and not HHH.

Sting destroyed Seth Rollins statue and road away on the garbage truck that the statue was in. I like how this was a three week arc and something a character cared about got destroyed by his opponent. I am ready for Seth Rollins to beat Sting because of this circumstance, Sting is a thief and bully, Seth is a champion and braggadocios.

Well off to bed for work tomorrow. Have a good one.

AWF was a replay from last week.  So onto

Paragon Pro Wrestling. Side note, before both shows Craig Ferguson is on the commercial bumper for Celebrity Name Game.

Todd and Jeff run down our card for tonight. They are excited for the “pine box” match. We are brought to Pat Kelly to interview Hammerstone.

I was very surprised at how well Hammerstone came across. He says he is against Wes Brisco, says Wes has had great matches and is a great wrestler. “He wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for his last name. Thirty years from now, Hammerstone Jr. will be carrying the name of a legend.”

Wes comes out to Reggae music and it bothers me. He hugs PPW lady too so that’s nice.

Announcers put over how Wes’ family started Hulk Hogan in wrestling which is a bad timed reference. They even go as far as to say if it wasn’t for the Brisco family we wouldn’t have modern wrestling.

Wes Brisco vs. Hammerstone

The announcers are very into Wes, it seems like he is being vocally groomed to be champion. I am being groomed to hate leg tattoos .

They say Wes is tough because he was part of a gang. A gang with wrestling legends.

Hammerstone seems to be waiting for Wes to catch up to him when they do certain spots. Wes seems to not be natural at all. As Wes is getting counted out, he sloooooowly creeeeeps to the ring. The ref says “7”  and Wes grabs the bottom rope then stops moving. “8” pulls himself on the apron and stops moving. “9” rolls into the ring.

Hammerstone gets caught eventually and Wes sets up for the Brisco Bomb. Hammerstone’s partner Chamberlain comes out and says “Hey Wes”. Wes stops what he is doing and gets rolled up for three.

And I’m Like… I don’t know how to feel about this. It’s hard to judge wrestling ability on this show cause most of the wrestling is so basic and non-organic.

Darin Corbin vs Ethan HD

Corbin is the only PPW wrestler to hold two titles. He was an ex-tag team champion, now American Champion.

Ethan doesn’t even get an entrance. As a viewer that lets me know right quick who is winning.

Corbin makes the match enjoyable with his banter with the crowd. “I will come over there and punch your kids!”

Want further prove Corbin will win? He doesn’t kick out in time and pulls an Eva Marie . Ethan HD does a standing shooting star press for a two count.

Ref was in wrong spot for ref bump and they have to stretch to hit him.

Ethan almost wins but the ref is knocked out. The ref gets up in time for Corbin to win with a roll up and tight grab.

And I’m Like… Wrestling should follow Checkhov’s gun . Why is the ref bumped for a tights grab roll up. Ethan HD turns heel and beats up the ref and some good guys.

Kevin Kross vs Mikey O’Shea

We see a Kevin Kross video and he says a lot.

His gimmick is “I’m Manic” and he spits out lines while a dial tone plays.

It’s like they hit record and he just rattled off would be catch phrases and the video editor was like “fuck it put em all in”. He must be laid back like Pringles.

Mikey always looks nervous to be out in the ring. He is good at taking an ass whopping though.

Kross is wrestling as his character, you can tell he is growing into it. O’Shea goes for a sunset flip and gets caught for the pin.

And I’m Like… It was how it was, it happened.

Tyshaun Prince vs. Gangrel

Cuban Assassin says the Pine Box match won’t happen cause Tyshaun is leaving. Then.

Matt Striker comes out as the new General Manager. He says Prince will be suspended if he doesn’t wrestle.

And I’m like… This was the shits. The match rules are the person who gets pinned goes to the box. They don’t say that Tyshaun doesn’t wanna wrestle and is afraid of the box until minutes before the match. The whole match is Gangrel threatening to put Tyshaun in the box, even though that wouldn’t win the match. Gangrel hits two DDT’s for the pin.

Gangrel puts the Assassin in the box?!? Prince is knocked out and Gangrel puts the wrong fucking guy in the box. Then Tyshaun hides from the box as the show ends.

I don’t get it.  It’s like the show producers saw wrestling shows but didn’t know how to tell a story. It’s just like “Welp! Here are things that have happened on wrestling shows before”

Have a good one. Like and share and stuff please.

Welcome, welcome, thanks for reading. We are closing out on 1982 on the WWE Network. We just got done watching episode 43 of WCCW television, the next episode available at the moment is episode 46. Let’s take a look at where American society was at in November of 1982.

In AprilВ An embargo was placed on Libyan Oil В because of the supposed support of terrorist groups. Mother Nature was relentlessВ As the Great Blizzard of ’82 В dumped 1-2 feet of snow in the northeastern United States. June sawВ an anti-nuke rally in Central Park В featuring Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor, among others. July brings inВ Lawn Chair Larry who flies В 16,000 feet above L.A. with balloons tied to his chair. Tragic flightВ Pan Am 759 crashes. В TheВ Tylenol Murders happen in Chicago. В The EPCOT center has itsВ grand opening . The DeLoran company ceases operations becauseВ John DeLoran was caught selling cocaine to an undercover FBI agent. В The unemployment rate was at 10%.

So many came out.

Now moving on the the silver shack known as the Sportatorium in Dallas.

Once again Bill Mercer and Jay Saldi welcome us to the program. I have grown to like this commentary team, WCCW is presented as the sport of wrestling. Bill being a former sportscaster , brings a sort of sporty feel in his cadence and word choice. Jay is a former football player and you can tell loves pro wrestling and tries to make everything make sense.В Quick words on Bill Mercer. He was a Dallas area radio host when JFK was assassinated. From 1966 to 1971 he was the voice of the Dallas Cowboys. In ’71 and ’72 he was the announcer for the Texas Rangers and Chicago Black Sox respectively. He got into announcing wrestling accidentally by signed up to announce anything sports related and wrestling happened to fall under that category.

The Great Kabuki vs. Raul Castro and The SamoanВ

В

The Samoan-В We have discussed whoВ The Samoan В is last week.

Raul Castro- Information on him was hard to find. I got this from another article on Wikipedia that mentions Raul.

В Over the years the Cuban Assassin became a bit of a tag team specialist, winning the North American Tag Team titles with Goldie Rogers in 1976, then again with Bobby Bass in 1980. Later on Dupree decided to bill Acevedo as “Angel Castro”, teaming him up with a wrestler billed as Raoul Castro to win the North American Tag Team titles.[4]

He shares the same name as theВ Leader of Cuba , so Google is littered with stories on that В Castro.

The Great Kabuki- This is the second original version. As stated last week the Great Kabuki gimmick was shared between this man, and Magic Dragon. The story goes The Great Kabuki, birth name Akihisa Mera, started wrestling when he was 16 in the 60’s. He came to the United States in the 70’s and worked many territories in 1981 he adopted the Great Kabuki gimmick. It was created by the genius that isВ Gary Hart . He innovated a dark Asian ninja gimmick called The GreatВ Kabooki . Kabooki looked like this

В В Kabuki looked like this

В So THIS version of The Great Kabuki debuts in WCCW. The character draws money, promoters want them in their territory so Gary Hart devises a plan. They will send the Magic Dragon version of the Great Kabuki to places likeВ Georgia to feud with Piper. В That way they can make double the money on the same gimmick. Usually Gary would not accompany MDragon Kabuki to the ring. The story says when Kabuki was a child his face was scarred by hot coals and that’s why he wears a mask and paints his face. He has such an incredible presence. Before matches he would do a nunchuck routine and spit most on his hands.В He was the first oneВ to use the Asian Mist.

Green Mist – The most common mist, which obscures the opponent’s vision.

Red Mist – This mist is purported to burn rather than blind.

Black Mist – An even more powerful mist which is purported to severely blind an opponent for a prolonged period of time.

Blue Mist – This mist is used to send an opponent to sleep.

Yellow Mist – This mist is purported to paralyze the opponent..

In the late 1980’s Jim Crockett promotions would use The Great Kabuki’s gimmick as a way to transitionВ The Great Muta В into the story lines.

В The Match- Kabuki is undefeated in handicap matches says Jay. It’s also pointed out that Kabuki has been the one collecting bounties, Roddy Piper and Kerry Von Erich both have been injured by Kabuki. It’s really a one sided affair with Kabuki hitting martial art kicks, judo chops, and gets the Samoan with a titty twister.

В He puts the Dropping Leg Scissors on Raul Castro.

В That eliminates Castro from the match. I guess that’s his finish because Mercer keeps talking about how it was the move that took out Kerry. The Samoan gets an advantage but tries to jump off the top rope atВ Brock Lesnar Wrestlemania 19 distances .

В Obviously he misses, and Kabuki puts him in the Dropping Knee Scissors for the win.
В And I’m Like… All about Kabuki! I hope he is on a ton of episodes. This dude is so enthralling. Having him just trounce dudes his very fun to watch.В

We come back from commercial and Wild Bill Irwin and King Kong Bundy are brawling with The Freebirds. It’s supposed to be The Destroyer 1 and Grand Marquis (Markus) II vs. The Freebirds but the brawl halts that for a moment.

В В
At first Destroyer and Marquis sit back and watch, then they either try and break it up or beat on dudes. This lasts a long time. It goes out of the ring, back in the ring, the locker room comes out to break it apart,В just like Brock Lesnar and Undertaker.

В В
Bugsy McGraw of all people comes in and just starts chucking everyone over the top rope, good or bad guy. The referee grabs the mic once things separate for a moment and says anyone caught brawling from here on out tonight gets fined $500, that stops everyone in there tracks. Bill Mercer says we need to cage these four. He says Bundy and Irwins American Tag Team Titles should be on th line.

В Things start settling down, Irwin and Bundy leave, The Destroyer and Grand Marquis are with Armand Hussein on the outside ready for the match.

В The Destroyer 1 and Grand Marquis II vs. The Fabolous Freebirds

The Destroyer 1- It’s hard to know who the Destroyer really is, there were many Destroyers from the 60’s-80’s, the one I think this is is Scott Irwin fromВ Duluth, Minnesota . His brother is Wild Bill Irwin, between ’81 and ’84 he was known as Super Destroyer #1. During that time he was wrestling inВ Mid-South Championship Wrestling , andВ Georgia Championship Wrestling , which by the looks of it had quite the talent exchange with WCCW.

Scott Irwin started training in 1975 under the tutelage of Verne Gagne. In 1976 he had his debut match againstВ Dick Blood , wrestling to a draw. From ’76 to ’78 he mainly wrestled for Jim Crockett in the Mid-Atlantic and in Georgia. In March of ’78 he became Lumberjack Eric in the WWWF. His partner Lumberjack Pierre and him won the tag titles in June of ’78 as TheВ Yukon Lumberjacks . They lost to Tony Garea and Larry Zbyszko later that year and broke up. By 1979 Irwin made his way to Florida as Thor the Viking. By October he left for one month and returned as the Super Destroyer. That’s where it gets muddy cause the Super Destroyer was all over the South. So I guess that’s what brings him to the Sportatrium tonight.

The Grand Marquis II- Has been lost to history.

The Fabulous Freebirds-В

The match-В

В The Freebirds are heated from the earlier events. Gordy is bleeding from his nose because of the brawl, that’s not good for the other team. Terry is doing one handed body slams and just dominates. They end up hitting the Spike Piledriver for the win.

Hayes grabs the mic and spits rhymes.

В “We were born out mamas sun, we hit the dirt and we run, we’ve been runnin over everyone all our lives”

And I’m Like… The Freebirds got the crowd goin crazy. Freebird Fantasia is running wild Jay Saldi would say. This is a fun build to the heel turn.В

Kerry Von Erich interview-

Al Madril and Bugsy McGraw vs. Checkmate and Magic Dragon

Al Madril-В Here is Al vs. Ric Flair В from earlier in the year. Since I wrote about 75% of the guys in the match last week I figured I’d link some matches.

Checkmate-В Vs. Billy Robinson

Magic Dragon-В Teaming with Kabuki against the Von Erichs

Bugsy McGraw- In 1967 he debuted as The Big O under a mask in the Detroit area. He then went to Florida and was managed by and feuded withВ The Great Malenko В or Dean Malenkos dad. He had a cup of coffee in WWWF in 1979, but made a name for himself in Florida feuding with Dusty Rhodes, The Funks, and Barry Windham. He went to Texas in ’81. He feuded with The Great Kabuki and won the NWA American Heavyweight Championship. He then turned heel and feuded with Brusier Brody, some Von Erichs and Andre the Giant. In August of ’82 he became a good guy again by beating Armand Hussein and Gary Hart in a handicap match.

The match-

В В

Bugsy is nuts. He does a Three StoogesВ Curly routine . He starts getting out wrestled by Checkmate. Bugsy keeps working himself up into a Stooge like frenzy and Checkmate armadillos him. Checkmate fires back with Eurocuts, the crowd is cheering Bugsy on and once he gets advantage Checkmate armadillos once again. Bugsy gets so flustered he just armadillos with him.

В Checkmate starts somersaulting and rolls out of the ring. This is amazing. Once Madril tags in he quickly gets taken advantage of, McGraw helps Madril by blocking an Irish whip into the turnbuckle.

The bad guys try to throw the good guys into each other but the faces dosey doe, the heels try to do the same but get punched in the face. Madril gets the upper hand and wins with a flying cross body.

В And I’m Like… I really like watching Checkmate wrestle. Bugsy McGraw was entertaining as hell too, that was my first time seeing him. Magic Dragon didn’t do much but lose. The armadillo portion was totally the best part. I would like to see that in modern wrestling, maybe Chad Gable could do it.В

Wild Bill Irwin vs. Kevin Von ErichВ

Kevin Von Erich- Kevin was trained by his father and debuted in 1976 against Playboy Buddy Rose, he quickly rose to the top tier of the territory. Bill Mercer would often call him the “Barefoot Boy” his finish was the same asВ Jimmy Snuka. В In ’78 he won tag titles with brother David and won the NWA American Title from Bruiser Brody.

Wild Bill Irwin- Debuting in 1979 he wrestled for a few years mainly in Georgia, not winning many matches. In 1981 he was in WCCW as Super Destroyer #2, being managed by Skandor Akbar. He is another Minnesota boy too! Not making much of a mark in the promotion, he seemed mainly to be a rough and rowdy fighter, holding the heel spot until the Freebirds.

The match-В

В Kevin is very urgent in all of his movements. The fans have not shut up since the bell rang. “We want the claw” which is one of the Von Erich family finishers. Most of this match is Kevin applying leg scissors and variety of leg scissors.

В В

Wild Bill stays strong and kicks out, Kevin tries to apply an abdominal stretch and turn that into a pin attempt.

This knocks the ref out cause Bill grabbed the referee for leverage. Kevin wins by DQ.

And I’m Like… Thinkin that was the least fun match I’ve seen on WCCW. This write up took longer than expected so I’m calling it an article.В

Have a good one see you next week.В

In the song Moment Of Clarity by Jay-Z, the lyric “Dumb down your audience to double your dollars” Is all I can think of after this episode. It’s not that the episode had changed the NXT format at all. I just watched the show with my cousin and uncle, and it never became more clear on why WWE is a giant money making machine.

It’s on so many levels too. I’m not sure where to start. First I complain a lot about seeing the same matches and segments on Raw every week. We complain about replays of replays of segments that we hear about during other segments. How people only have one name; Cesaro, Rusev, Neville, Charlotte, Paige. I’ve realized that this is all done to make it so the casual fan can retain basic information.

I can’t tell you how many times my cousin will call Rusev ‘Rufus’, Daniel Brayn ‘Dan O’Bryan’, Sami Zayn ‘Zaggy Zag’, and now Eva Marie is ‘Eve’. I get why Antonio Cesaro was shortened to Cesaro; easier to chant, easier to remember. That’s why all names are about 3 to 4 syllables.

There was a replay package of Takeover:Brooklyn and my family was confused until the end of it. The end said Takeover:Brooklyn now on demand. After that my cousin goes, “oh I thought that was gonna be next week.” That was the moment I discovered, if you go below the surface, a lot of people won’t go with you. It’s the difference between Family Guy and King of the Hill. On the surface it’s both a cartoon comedy. Dig deeper and Family Guy gears jokes towards people who don’t have to pay attention to get the punchline. Anybody can watch any episode and it works the same. King of the Hills comedy works with a first time viewer, but truly works when you get to know the characters and their convictions.

Raw is the product of the art of wrestling, NXT is the art of wrestling. That’s why Raw is on ‘watch, replay, redo’. The idiom about how it’s harder to steer a big ship rings true. When the world is watching, not everyone hangs on WWEs every word like you and I. With NXT WWE knows their appeasing just the hardcore audience. Even if you casually view NXT you, or someone you know have the network.  Casual fans don’t have that, that alone gives NXT more room to be smarter, because the fan base is already determined to be slightly more than casual.

Let me know if you agree or disagree, I would like to talk about this more.

As I type this. A helicopter circles my block.

NXT Opening- Video package saying NXT is starting the Dusty Rhodes Classic tonight.

The Ascension vs. Baron Corbin and Rhyno

As the Ascension comes out the crowd seems somber. I think Full Sail is still licking their wounds after  Kevin Owens unleashed his verbal fury a few weeks ago. That does not last long though, they are Yah’ing in no time. ( Yah’ing is where the crowd says Yah every time Konnor from the Ascension hits his opponent.)

I really don’t know who will win.  Graves says Rhyno and Corbin respect each other after the matches they have had.

The Ascension double teams Corbin and look like a fluid team. It’s night and day with NXT and WWE. Good thing I covered that earlier.

The announcers put over how much this tournament means to all those competing, because winning this is like a tribute to Dusty Rhodes. Knowing how much Dream affected these talents, adds a lot of gravity to this tournament. That makes me wonder if the finals will have a Dusty Finish?

It’s nice to see how much Konnor feeds off the crowd. His body moves to their every noise. Konnor sets Rhyno up for the Fall of Man, but Corbin distracts Viktor and Konnor ends up eating a Gore from Rhyno for the loss.

And I’m Like.. That was surprising. It was nice to see The Ascension back home in NXT.

Neville and Crowe promo- Neville says he is gonna win and thinks the chances of winning are high. Crowe is turnt up to 11 and says “he is callin his shot like Babe Ruth BAM! calling the win.

There is a Nia Jax promo again.

Alexa Bliss vs. Blue Pants

As Alexa comes out my cousin says “she’s so hot” and I’m all ugh. This is how the general audience thinks though. Their looks will cover a lot of their mistakes. It’s like how music got worse once MTV came around. Look at music artists post-MTV and pre-MTV. Lots of uggo’s in the early part of the century. Then it becomes, if they are nice to look at they don’t ha ve to be that talented.

Blue Pants is announced from the Clearance Rack and Graves calls her the Discount Diva lol.

This arm lock is like 80% of the arm work done by the people on NXT. That must be the foundation move for arm rest holds.

Blue Pants is obviously leading the match, she is in a hurry up and wait for Alexa to hit her spots mode. Alexa is too slow at the moment, she needs more seasoning. Bliss hits a handspring knee splash followed by The Sparkle Splash for the win.

And I’m Like… My cousin says “God, she is hot, that was a good match.” That upset me, just cause in my heart I worry that the Diva Revolution will not happen for years because of that mindset.

Tyler Breeze found out his partner is Bull Dempsey next week in a match against Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampia .

Emma video package about her winning the fatal four way. My cousin said he thought Emma was not supposed to win, everyone looked shocked. Emma says there wouldn’t be a revolution without her and Paige.

Apollo Crews vs. Martin Stone

Apollo is from Stone Mountain, Georgia. Same as Jerry Blackwell and Jake The Snake Roberts , those are some shows to fill.

After Crews and all his talents hit a dropkick and says “too easy.” I feel like I was the only one disappointed in his debut. I am just not into him yet. His demeanor feels forced to me, not organic or original. Maybe if we were supposed to boo him I would like him? I don’t know, like if I know it is supposed to piss me off, I can deal with it. Is wrestling weird or is it just me?

And I’m Like… Apollo wins and I am still indifferent.

Gable and Jordan say they will win the tournament. Gable asks Jordan to say his name. Jordan says it but also says he will deny it. Gable says he can’t it is live TV.

Eva Marie vs. Billie Kay

Why is Corey Graves always bring up someone’s attractiveness? Because, he is a heel announcer and supposed to upset me? Ok.

An all girl chant breaks out for Eva Marie. My cousin “She’s hot she should be Sister Abigail.” After a leapfrog by Eva my Uncle says “She is really good.” After a suplex my Cousin says “yeah she’s real good” my Wife says “this is terrible, Corey Graves sucks. Eva can’t be considered good, she forgot to kick out and the ref had to stop counting, how could Eva be considered good when she forgot she was supposed to win. My Cousin “it’s probaby her dork trainer Brian Something .

And I’m Like… With the crowd here BOOOO!

They talk about partying in New York. Enzo and Cass look to be annoyed with the Hype Bros.

Neville and Solomon Crowe vs. Gable and Jordan

Nevilles ovation is outstanding, look how into it his crowd is. It’s weird that your memory is rewarded on this show.

As I watch Jason Jordan, I can’t help but think of Shelton Benjamin . I feel like he is the most complete star of this match. That’s saying something too cause Gable is from ‘S ota. Graves said Jordan is as quick as Neville.

I’ll give Crowe credit by being the most entertaining guy in a rest hold on NXT. He has great grunts and grimaces. Rich Brennen says Neville looks miffed at Crowe. Graves says that’s a word his grandmother uses. “You know your approaching her age Rich. You look like your grandfather” Rich says that he and Graves have the same haircut. Corey says “trying to look like me and failing” that is some of the worst commentary I’ve heard.

Neville was rocking and rolling. He gets beat up a bit and Crowe tags himself in and goes for a Rolling Yoshi Tonic and as you can see above, Jordan reverses it into a over the head belly to belly suplex. Followed up by

And I’m Like… That was a fun match, I don’t know of a team I have more fun watching wrestle.

I feel like I wrote a lot. That was a revealing episode! Ya’ll like and share and stuff.

Have a good one.

I will do a summary of the year in next weeks entry. For this week we need to catch up in the world of Dallas, Texas and the goings on of WCCW.
I use the WWE Network to watch these matches. I go to “all years” and start with the oldest and am working my way through.

WCCW originally was known as Big Time Wrestling and owned byВ Fritz Von Erich , around the 1970’s he also boughtВ The Dallas Sportatorium , which would work out well as an arena for the wrestling. They were the first to go national on television and were contending with Saturday Night Live in ratings. They were the first to use rock music for entrances. Pioneers in many aspects of wrestling. В A 20 year feud was started in 1966 В with Gary Hart and Fritz Von Erich. Once Fritz retired Gary continued using his stable of villains as a thorn in the side of the Von Erich family. Fritz was the main attraction for many years in WCCW like Verne Gagne was in the AWA. If you own a company, the only person you can trust is yourself or family. That’s why the Von Erichs were always integral to WCCW. Around ’82 is when the focus of the promotion switched from Fritz to his sons.

I was a little disappointed that it started WCCW on episode 43, why not start at 1 if you own all of them? The more I read about the history of WCCW the more I understand. The Von Erich/ Fabulous Freebirs rivalry was what put the company on the map and was the hottest angle going in any promotion at the time. That feud starts in December of 1982. The Network has us starting in October of 1982, it is a weekly broadcast so that means we have about 6 shows until the WCCW gets turned on its head. We’ll continue doing what we always do when we go old school, learn about the people in the matches and what they were up to right before the match on the card. Kevin Von Erich В isВ the Heavyweight Champion of the promotion. They are affiliated with the NWA which means Ric FlairВ is the recognized World Champion.В Without further ado.

В В
Bill Mercer and Jay Saldi welcome us to the program, Jay is a Dallas Cowboy.

David Von Erich vs. Capt. Frank Dusek

David Von Erich- He won a scholarship to North Texas for football and basketball, but dropped out in 1977. By August, heВ went up against В Harley Race В and wrestling to a 30 minute draw with the champion. He wrestled in Missouri and by 1979 was popular enough to beat Race in a non-title match. He wrestled once for WWF in that same year. In 1981 and 1982 he wrestled in Florida as a heel with J.J. Dillon as his manager. Florida is where he met Jimmy Garvin and by July 1982 they were both on WCCW television. He and his brothers were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009.В

Frank Dusek-В Frank had an interview here. В He also has a good bio written about him onВ Wrestling Classics. В His wiki page shows that he isn’t related to the Dusek family of shoot wrestlers, his Dad “joined” the family and the name stuck. Frank was also a commentator and booker for WCCW at the time.В

Before the match starts David is asked by Mercer about the bounty. I’m not quite sure what it’s about but David says the Von Erichs know about the bounty and they will reveal it later.

The announcer Mark Loretz sounds likeВ Will Ferrell’s Harry Caray . Jay remarks on Dusek saying heВ looks like Mae West В getting out of a bubble bath.

В The match starts and my first impression is how fast paced it is in comparison to WWF at the time. The crowd sounds more intimate, you can pick out voices. There are more camera cuts, and angles. You can also hear the wrestlers more thanВ in today’s WWE . We are told Frank just came back from JapanВ where Hulkamania was running wild В with Hulk Hogan becoming more famous becauseВ Thunderlips . There is chatter of many bounties at the moment,В Gary Hart tried claiming one in Atlanta В against Roddy Piper. We see aggression from David and not much offense from Frank.

The match ends when Dusek punches Von Erich relentlessly in the corner, David yells at the ref to get Frank off of him. Frank takes a swing at the ref.

the ref ducks and punches Dusek, who turns around into a small package by David for the win.

And I’m Like… Alright, if I was alive in 1982 I would be a WCCW fan. I grew up a WWF fan so this NWA/Anything else stuff is so interesting. Looking forward to more stuff from David!В

Checkmate and Magic Dragon with Arman Hussein vs. Al Madril and Jose Lothario

Checkmate- What’s fun for me about this blog is when you look up a wrestler and they don’t have a Wikipedia page. I get to research. Checkmate is from Wales, known as Tony Charles. He was known to be a great technical wrestler by those who knew him. He stared in 1959 and got a break in 1968 withВ IWE . He made it to North America in 1972, by 1973 he was wrestling forВ Eddie Graham in Florida. В He gained critical acclaim for his technical style by having matches withВ Leo Thornton. В It seems to resemble modern dayВ McGuinness/Danielson . To follow the Daniel Bryan Danielson comparisons, it’s said that Charles, do to his size, was regulated to mid-card status. He became CheckmateВ A member of Devastation Inc. В He would retire shortly thereafter and passed away from Alzheimer’s in February of 2015.В

The Magic Dragon- Born Kazuharu Sonoda in 1956, Dragon was trained at theВ AJPW Dojo В and debuted in 1975 as a wrestler. By 1979 he was moving westward and landed at the WWC in Puerto Rico. After winning and losing the tag titles there withВ Mitsu Ishikawa . The duo then traveled to NWA: Houston and won tag titles there. That territory closed down and the team broke up leaving Dragon to head to Georgia for a cup of coffee, before settling in WCCW in 1981. He teamed withВ and sometimes was В The Great Kabuki when the real Kabuki was double booked in Georgia. At theВ Fritz Von Erich retirement show В Gary Harts team beat some Von Erich brothers for the All-Asian Tag Titles. They then lost to the brothers atВ Wrestling Star Wars. В Kabuki then starting a singles run leaving Dragon to team with Checkmate. He would leave in the mid-80’s to train a youngВ Kenta Kobashi. В While becoming a trainer Dragon would get married andВ die on his way to his honeymoon

Arman Hussein- He was the manager, interesting too because there isn’t much on him.В “

The articulate, dignified, well-educated Arman Hussein was an immediate hit with fans. A star of the 1960s and 1970s, Hussein’s confident persona and cool demeanor led him to success in several territories,” wrote Julian L.D. Shabazz in Black Stars of Professional Wrestling.

His real name is not known because he changed it to Arman Hussein to better reflect his Muslim religion. No one can pin point his place of birth or his age. No family showed up to his funeral either. His name pops up in 1959 in Minneapolis as maybe his place of debuting.В He was like Kirk Lazarus , to the point of never breaking character in front of ANYONE. In 1966 he had a baby face stint in WWWF, he tried suing a Los Angeles promotion for not using him properly. He traveled all over in the 60’s and 70’s and really was a journeyman.

according to Scott Casey. “When you stop to think about it, we were all a little crazy to do some of the things we did,” Casey told Scott Teal in a Whatever Happened To … ? interview. “Arman Hussein and I wrestled on TV. He had a long fingernail on his right hand. When we locked up, his fingernail went into my cheek, all the way to the bone. We were only thirty seconds into the match. I picked up a chair and beat him to death with it. I was so mad. I had my girlfriend take me to the hospital. That was on my 33rd birthday.

He broke his hip in a bad car wreck which ended his in ring career, he told everyone Roddy Piper did it to him in the ring. He became a manager with Gary Hart and they co-managed under the name H & H Limited.

Jose Lothario- Not much is found about him though he is still alive. The name might ring a bell ifВ you remember who trained HBK for Wrestlemania Iron Man match . He was known to win in the NWA and was a champion for WCCW when it was Big Time.

Al Madril-В Is known for getting HBK into Elvis’ music. В He began wrestling in the 1970’s making his rounds on the southern and western parts of the country. Winning numerous tag titles along the way, he teamed with Jose Lothario on many occasions. He has been rumoredВ to deny ever being in wrestling .

As the match starts the announcer Bill Mercer says Fritz has proof Kerry was purposefully injured by Gary Hart and the Greak Kabuki. Checkmate starts it off with some catch-as-catch-can type stuff, which makes sense because he says wrestling is human chess. Lothario and Madril “the New Mexicans” try and out wrestle Checkmate but that shit ain’t happening.

В В
The crowd starts paying attention to Bugsy McGraw who is selling merch to them.

В В
This commentary team is miles ahead of Vince McMahon on WWF. They get the character over, The back story on each competitor, the story of the match, and hype for what’s to come.

Dragon hits back hand chops which are called martial arts and Asian type wrestling. Madril is in a hammerlock and runs around in circles until he dives and shoots Dragon out of the ring. Dragon gets back into the ring and they meet each other with flying shoulder blocks.

Jose and Checkmate both tag in, Lothario goes for a back body drop but Checkmate flips out of it. Hussein gets involved so the heels get the advantage. Jay says “Armen can speak six languages, it helps seeking international talent, Gary Hart should be proud of Armen, interrupting at the right moments.” That covered so much with so little said. It adds credibility as to why Hart would have such an eclectic group of guys, and puts over Hussein as a valuable asset to have. Dragon comes in and does this sequence.

В В
В В
В

So what happens is В Dragon hits Al in the corner, he runs up the corner and does a backflip off of the top rope into a back handspring, seamlessly into a Superkick then he runs to the top rope and misses a front flip senton! HOLY SHIT!! That sequence looks great in any era but this guy musta blown minds in the early 80’s.

Checkmate gets tagged in, wrestling happens, good guys go for Checkmates mask. The match breaks down and ends in a time limit draw.

And I’m Like… Holy wow, that was fun! I don’t have much else to say.

Bill Mercer brings us a video from World Champion Ric Flair, who Bill says put the bounty on the Von Erichs.

This could be the reason we start at episode 43!

Ric Flair Interview-В

And I’m Like… I am really into laid back not as intense Ric. He is speaking matter of factly, and doing it with style. Excited to see how this unfolds.В

В

The Samoan vs. Grand Marquis II

Grand Marquis II- Know how I said I like when Wikipedia doesn’t have much so I can research? Well the bit my ass cause I could not find anything on this dude. В I couldn’t even find Grand Marquis 1 stuff. All I found is other blogs reviewing this show and not knowing about him either.В

The Samoan- He was born in 1963 and wrestled his first match in 1977 at 14. By the time he was 20В His father, Afa, head of the Anoa’i family В had him wrestling for multiple territories to get seasoned. That’s what brought him here. He is better known as one half of the Headahrinkers or Samoan Swat Team.

Marquis is in a white mask and managed by Arman Hussein too! We are told Micheal Hayes will be wrestling tonight, and his 21 year old “brother” Terry Gordy will be showing up soon. This is slow and plodding like a WWF match. Big change of pace from the rest of the card. The crowd is chanting for the Samoan “Go, Sam, Go” lol. The announcers say most Samoans go through college football before entering pro wrestling. They also comment that tickets to WCCW is $3 per person. Grand Marquis wins with a running senton.

And I’m Like… I could have done without that but I did with it so there is that.В

Micheal P.S. Hayes vs. Roberto Ernesto

Michael P. S. Hayes- Born in 1959 and debuting in 1977, it seems Hayes was always meant to wrestle. He started at 18 getting trained by Afa Anoa’i. In 1979 he formed the Fabulous Freebirds with a freshly turned 18 Terry Gordy. Hayes showed early on he was all about entertainment when he would moonwalk to the ring likeВ Michael Jackson . Between ’80 and ’82 they won tag titles in GCW, the split you, feuded, got back together. Now we see their arrival in Texas.В

Roberto Ernesto- Just like The Grand Marquis, he is lost to history.В

Bill Mercer says during the start of the match ” Michael Hayes is he cool? Is he way out? Whatever it is the kids like him” “He had problems with Jimmy Snuka in Georgia, he brought in Andre The Giant for help” “Even though he has long blonde hair, don’t be confused he is still tough.”

Hayes plays to the crowd like crazy. He is entertainment over technical wrestling, I believe it will help get him over as a heel in the oncoming war with the Von Erichs. Hayes shit is not as tight as the other guys on WCCW but the crowd is IN. TO. HIM. Hayes wins with a piledriver, ” you wanna know about the piledriver?В ask Andy Kaufman ” as Jay also puts it “the Freebird frolics as Ernesto hurts”

В В
Hayes cuts a post match promo.

“Freebird Fantasian is rocking the country. Brother terry will be right with me, I’m 220 lbs of twisted steel and sex-o-peal, my brother is 6’5 of walkin talkin rompin stompin graveyard destruction. We was born on the wrong side of the tracks so they say, it’s okay. We was kids and got in trouble, now we get paid for doing the same thing! We was born on planet rock in a place called party town, the name of the street was Bad Street, the further you went down the block the badder it got, ya’ll intelligents know what house Terry and I lived in, we lived in the last house”

Before the show ends Hayes opponent next week has a bad promo Wild Bill Irwin

“Hayes your gonna be caged. You go cry on your big brothers shoulder.”

And I’m Like… That was quite an episode. A lot of research on my part. I really enjoyed it though and am looking forward to the coming weeks.В

Have a good В one
