Greetings and Salutations Cheap-Heaters! Welcome to a debut column, of sorts. I've utilized the name in the past, and honestly? I'm guessing if I googled it I'd find all kinds of columns and blog posts and general what-nottery (We've been over this before… it is TOO a word!) – The general theme of this column would be to take a stance that flies in the face of common, or popular opinion. Opinions such as, but not limited to:
John Cena IS a good wrestler.
Sheamus' Beard Beads should become a fad! (I mean… c'mon what percentage of wrestling fans have beards? Its a no brainer fellas!) Who WOULDN'T want Jay Briscoe as the "Face of the Company", when you end up back on National TV?
Etcetera. Etcetera. Etcetera.
I call this the "Devil's Advocate". I decided to write this because with Money In the Bank a short eight days away? I was looking at the, now, seven men involved in the match? I realized there are really only three guys who I could see winning, and I might make a stretch of a fourth with Kane winning it as a bit of an "Insurance Policy" as Seth Rollins continues to outgrow his britches and thus can not be controlled by the Authority… but we'll save the in-depth breakdown and arm chair booking of all the possibilities Money in the Bank may have to you gamblers to the guy who writes the Over-Under. That dude is super swell!
I just want to look at ONE Money in the Bank competitor. The man I think SHOULD win. Hell he even DESERVES to win, but it makes sense a career standpoint. It makes sense from a storyline standpoint… or it will. I promise.
Your 2015 Money in the Bank Ladder Match winner SHOULD BE?!
(Awaits a drumroll… realizes can't hear said drumroll anyway…)
Whoa. I saw that eye roll Mr. Smark! Give me some benefit of the doubt.
WHO?!
Kofi Kingston debuted with the WWE's version of ECW in 2007. He burst in as a face with an amazing high flying arsenal. Crowds dug him. He quickly became one of the more popular guys in the WWE. His feud with Randy Orton was a high point for him on the card. He flirted with breaking into realm of Main Eventers. Crowds were buying in. He got some wins over Orton, but in the long run Orton came out on top and Kofi kind of got shuffled to the back. He's kind of been in the fascinating world of the "WWE Mid card" where they will build you up. You'll get some momentum, maybe even win a Championship (Kofi has won 11 championships in WWE, including 4 IC title reigns and 3 US title reigns) – but eventually things cool. The next mid card flavor of the month (In management's eyes) – gets his shot. His spots in both Ladder Matches as well as his amazing streak of Royal Rumble spots where he appears to be eliminated, but gives us a "holy shit" moment instead.
or…
WHY?!
The condescending answer, would be… Why NOT? Money in the Bank could, should, and has been used to elevate people in the past. Sometimes with great success! See: Edge, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins. Sometimes with much less success! See: Damien Sandow. He's got everything the WWE wants. He'll be 34 in August, so he's still in his prime. He has demonstrated the ability to work both as a heel and a face. He cuts a good promo. And the biggest why ties also into my last section…
HOW?!
If EVER you had a more tailor made scenario for an "Upset" in Money in the Bank? Kofi comes to the ladder match with an army at his back. Why WOULDN'T Big E and Xavier Woods help their brother in arms climb that ladder and get that briefcase? I fully expect to see E and X out there to help Kofi. I'm guessing they don't play a factor in the full finish of the match, but? THEY. SHOULD! If you have X and E as the Tag Team Champions. Kofi carrying that briefcase. You have a lot of possibilities. The threat of New Day together working to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is great. The hatred they could garner from the crowd by stealing the Briefcase? Would be wonderful. New Day is on FIRE right now. Crowds are really into everything they're doing. They are consistently one of the best parts of WWE Television. So much so they've started to mix it up with the Authority and Main Event scene. They get mic time. They have fantastic matches. It truly is a perfect time and place to be able to pull something like this off. WORST case scenario? It ends up like Sandow's Briefcase run ended. Which would be a shame, but could you imagine the potential teases and chaos that this trio could enact? How much dickbaggery and nonsense they could pull on a weekly basis? Also… I propose this because right NOW? Kofi is booked in a one on one match with Brock Lesnar in Japan on July 4th. This "Super Show" will be televised live on the WWE Network, which… is… AWESOME. If you want to capitalize on that type of attention and spotlight Kofi will have? To quote Zach De La Rocha:
"It has to start somewhere.
It has to start sometime.
What better place than here.
What better time than now?"
And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen of the Cheap-Heat Province. Kofi Kingston should be the 2015 Money in the Bank Ladder Match Winner. Capitalize on the crazy Momentum the New Day has. Throw us a curveball. The trio has their "Cheat to Win" game on point, and if you put the briefcase in their hands? I expect only awesome things.
