Indy Power Rankings for the Week of March 23rd, 2015
#1 Shynron (@Dragon_Shynron)- One of the best high flyers in the entire world once again proves his worth this week as he survived AIWF's Krazy 8 Tournament. First, the CLL International All Star Champion defeated Alex Kai, then he defeated Drew Game, and then in the Finals he defeated Former #1 Kameron Kade to go 3-0 on the week to win the tournament. It was another great week for the former DREAMWAVE Alternative Champion and #45 in the 2014 IPR 100. With a ranking like this, there's a good shot you'll be seeing him even higher in the 2015 IPR 100 if he can keep this momentum going.
В
#2 Ultimo Dragon- Yes, THAT Ultimo Dragon returns to the Indy Power Rankings this week after a VERY impressive week. There may have been some detractors among the official voters as all of his victories were in tags, but a 4-0 week is Big. He teamed with Alexander Otsuka on 3/20 to defeat Heddi French & Hikaru Sato at RJPW, then teamed with Burning Wild to defeat Akebono, SUSHI, & Yutaka Yoshie on 3/21 at AJPW, then teamed with Yoshinubu Kanemaru to defeat Dark Kingdom for the AJPW All Asia Tag Team Titles on 3/22, and then wrapped up the week, teaming with Takao Omori to defeat Evolution (Hikaru Sato & Suwama) on 3/23 at AJPW. With him coming to the U.S. this coming weekend, look out for more success from the former WCW star.
В
#3 Josh Alexander (@Walking_Weapon)- "The Walking Weapon" has absolutely owned 2015 as he is clearly the top wrestler in Canada right now, with apologies to Ethan Page and others. With him currently holding the AIW Absolute Title, he already has a bit of prestige associated with him, but he went 3-0 on a very competitive weekend where he first defeated Dick Justice on 3/20 to retain the title, then beat Johnny Gargano at AAW on 3/21, and then wrapped up the weekend by defeating El Jefe & Jon Bolen at Destiny on 3/22. What more can really be said about this rising star? He's got a date with Samoa Joe in AAW in April to further try to prove himself.
#4 Akira Tozawa (@TozawaAkira)- At this point, what more can be said about Akira Tozawa? He is the clear #1 right now in the IPR 100 for 2015, but the year is still young. That being said, the Dragon Gate Open the Brave Gate Champion continued his dominance once again over the weekend as he defeated Don Fuji on 3/17, then teamed with Shingo to defeat The Millenials on 3/21, then beat Stalker Ichikawa twice on 3/22 to run his record to 4-0 on the week. He has won ten of his last thirteen matches after going on an insane winning streak earlier in the year. Can anyone stop Tozawa's reign of terror on the Indy Power Rankings?
В
#5 Sugar Dunkerton (@SugarDunkerton)- Who would have thought "Suge D" would have been at or near the top of the list of the top wrestlers in the world on the indies in 2015? Chances are HE thought so. With no shortage of confidence, he headed into the weekend with two titles and two previous #1 rankings and came out with both titles still around his waist. On 3/20 he defeated Shannon Moore to retain the Strong Style Wrestling Title and then followed that up on 3/21 by defeating Scotty Young to retain the RESISTANCE Pro Title. He's evolved into so much more than a comedy act and make no mistake, he's one of the best out there right now.
#6 Drew Galloway (@GallowaySpeaks)- Despite getting absolutely no fan support in the online vote, the official voters saw the title collector himself once again collecting titles around the world. This past week he added the OCW Heavyweight Title in Australia to his collection as he defeated Andy Phoenix to retain his ICW and EVOLVE titles, then defeated Tyler Throne at AAW in Australia on 3/21 to go 2-0 on the week. With a HUGE title unification match vs. Johnny Gargano coming up, can the former WWE superstar add even more gold to his growing collection? Stay tuned!
#7 Jimmy Havoc (@Jimmy Havoc)- The Progress Champion (and All England Champion, NWA UK Junior Heavyweight Champion and FPW Champion) is no stranger to the Indy Power Rankings and this week he returns after retaining the Progress Title in a 6-Man Elimination Match on 3/22 vs. Noam Dar, Will Ospreay, Marty Scurll, Dave Mastiff, and Paul Robinson. He came in as the champ and he walked out as the champ after outlasting 5 of the UK's best talents. He has now won 7 of his last 10 matches.
В
#8 Crazy Mary Dobson (@CrazyMaryDobson)- The APWA Ladies Champion and 1/2 of the JCW Tag Team Champions is experiencing a breakout year and it's further proven by her ranking this week after she defeated Amazing Maria at PDW on 3/17 and then followed that up with a TREMENDOUS victory over Mickie Knuckles to win the RESISTANCE Pro Title. #9 Peter B. Beautiful (@peterbbeautiful)- There was a huge debate among the official voters as to the prestige of the UPW Lord of Hardcore Tournament and whether it merited Peter B. Beautiful being ranked this week. The debate was heated and the official voters were split, but in the end, Peter B gets enough support to get in after defeating Chris Redcloud in a Taipei broken glass death match in the first round, then defeating Bryant Woods in a needles and nails match in the semifinals, and then defeating Corporal Robinson in a razor board, razor wire and barbed wire match in the final to win the tournament to go 3-0 for the week. He got a little bit of fan support in the online vote as well, which always helps.
В
#10 Malice- VERY good week for Malice as the APW Heavyweight Champion defeated James Alexander on 3/17 to retain the title, then teamed with Nitro the same night to beat James Alexander & Kris Korvis, then teamed with Nitro at CPW the same day to defeat N8 Mattson & Zach Gowen, then teamed with Nitro at CIW on 3/21 to beat Great Akuma & Jun Hado to go 4-0 for the week. This is his first ranking and if he can continue this type of winning, there's no reason to believe he can't start to climb up the rankings as the weeks go on.
People's Champ. The Choff- It was another tight voting battle all day in the online vote, but in the end, the NEW QWA Champion pulled away as he collected 109 votes to become this week's People's Champ after defeating Tower of Power and Seth Tylors in Australia on 3/21 to become the inaugural champion.
