Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of May 4th, 2015
#1 Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Lance Archer)- It's been a bit, but The Killer Elite Squad return to the top spot in the Tag Team Top 5 as the GHC and NWA Tag Team Champions absolutely dominated the week in Japan. The official voters almost had them at #1 across the board in a clean sweep. They teamed with Minoru Suzuki, Takashi Iizuka at NOAH on 4/29 to defeat TMDK (Mikey Nicholls, Shane Haste), Zack Sabre Jr. and Jack Gamble, then teamed with Minoru Suzuki, Takashi Iizuka on 4/30 to defeat Naomichi Marufuji, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Akitoshi Saito and Quiet Storm, and then defeated Akitoshi Saito and Quiet Storm on 5/1 to go 3-0 for the week. With 7 straight victories to their credit, they look unbeatable right now. Where will they end up in the 2015 Tag Team Top 50? Tune into Elite Podcast Network on 7/1 to find out where they rank midway through the year!

#2 Fenix & Myzteziz- We'd have to fact check to verify but this may be the highest ranking yet for a team coming out of Mexico. It was a HUGE week for this team as they teamed with Laredo Kid at Promociones Cantu on 4/27 to beat El Hijo del Fantasma, Mocho Cota Jr. & Pentagon Jr., then defeated Los Perros del Mal (Joe Lider & Pentagon Jr.) at AAA on 4/30, and then defeated Averno & Pentagon Jr. at Saccomats on 5/1 to go 3-0 for the week. This tag team came out of NOWHERE to get this ranking this week and if they can continue this type of success (they've won 6 of their last 8 matches) there's no doubt you'll be seeing more of them in the Tag Team Top 5 in the future.
#3 Shelton Benjamin & Brian Breaker- This was another team that seemingly came out of nowhere as they really fattened up on some solid competition at NOAH over the last few weeks. Last week they defeated Quiet Storm and Jon Webb at NOAH on 4/29, then defeated Mohammed Yone and Daisuke Ikeda on 4/30, and then teamed with Taichi, El Desperado and Taka Michinoku on 5/1 to defeat Zack Sabre Jr., Yoshinari Ogawa, Shane Haste, Mikey Nicholls and Captain NOAH to go 3-0 for the week. NOAH had a very strong influence on the Tag Team Top 5 this week with two teams in the Top 3 alone.

#4 Monster Express (Masato Yoshino & Shachihoko BOY)- The Monster Express stable may have lost Akira Tozawa and Uhaa Nation, but they keep plugging along. This tag team particularly has been very impressive over the last several months. The Dragon Gate Open the Twin Gate Champions return to the Tag Team Top 5 this week after they teamed with Akira Tozawa at Dragon Gate on 4/29 to defeat T-Hawk, U-T and La Flamita, then defeated YAMATO and Punch Tominaga on 5/1, and then defeated Jimmyz (Jimmy Susumu and Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!) on 5/3 to go 3-0 for the week. As you can see in the Top 4, Japan played a major influence in the Top 5 this week once again, with 3 of the Top 4 competing primarily in the Land of the Rising Sun.
#5 Tryout Show Rejects (Reed Bentley & John Wayne Murdoch)- North America's only true representatives this week return to the Tag Team Top 5 after a tremendous victory vs. one of the top teams in the entire world. A main event victory vs. The Hooligans (the #1 tag team in the Tag Team Top 50 for 2014) in a Barbed Wire Match has its advantages. With that win, this tag team is back on the right track after Bentley was sidelined for a few weeks with a vicious gash from a chair shot, courtesy of Mason Cutter. Can The Rejects continue to climb the rankings now that they're back and healthy? With IWA Mid-South back on a semi-regular schedule, look out for them as 2015 rolls on.
People's Champs. Stompin' Steve (@StompinSteveB) & Lovely Lylah Lodge (@LovelyLylah)- Not much can be said about this team other than they absolutely CRUSHED the entire online voting competition after a huge surge overnight on Monday night/Tuesday morning. With 534 votes, the HPW Intergender Tag Team Champions OWNED the online voting competition this week. Considering the fan support they received, we really hope to see more of them in 2015.
