Hello everybody! Today was a crazy day. At my restaurant there is only one cook (me) and one server. My server thought she had appendicitis and went to urgent care. I worked alone and we did weekend numbers today. Very bust, adrenaline going for 5 hours non-stop. I am excited to sit down and react to some wrestling. We are two days away from NXT:Takeover Dallas. This is the show that will be compared to WrestleMania. The show we are about to witness is the go-home show. Let’s see what they have in store for us!

NXT Opening

The theme song kicks off the show. I kind of am ready for new theme songs for Raw and NXT…

American Alpha vs. Corey Hollis and John Skyler

Everyone is saying that Alpha is gonna win the straps of Friday against The Revival… I don’t think so, I think the Revival will get a win but it will be cheap, that will let them have a feud for a few months. I know by the time the Dusty Invitational happens again, American Alpha will be champions.

Chad Gable is a wrestling machine. He will reverse a wristlock by bridging and flipping and then kicking his leg out and spinning around Skyler until Skyler is face first on the mat and somehow Gable has him in an armlock.

Jordan and Gable are innovating so many double team moves. Jordan will have a waistlock and then toss him into Gable who does a waistlock. Jordan will hold Skyler in a postition so Gable can jump in the ring and mid-air apply an arm drag. Gable is doing a spinning toe hold but to the arm, so a spinning shoulder hold? This match is just happening to show us how great American Alpha are and how confident they are at the moment. Momentum is key and these two are riding high. The sickest version of their finisher too for the win.

And I’m Like… That was a quick 5 minute match to accent the greatness of American Alpha. They seem unstoppable and have so much support. That’s why I am leaning toward them losing. It would make a better story in the long run I think. We all love the chase, why hurry it?

Finn Balor talks about Samoa Joe and Balor looks really tired.

Finn says Joe feels like he is bigger than NXT. Balor says he is obsessed with being the best in WWE. He keeps talking about how his obsession of being the best is why he has persevered for so long. He ends it by saying “two more days Joe.. two more days”

Baron Corbin vs. Michael Culori

Corbin is fighting another indie guy. It’s funny that the storyine is now “if you didn’t wrestle in gym’s it doesn’t matter”. Corbin is like a cross between CM Punk and Undertaker.. The tall demeaner and mean streak, the presence and aura. The brash attitude and biker persona.

Corbin wins with Deep Six very quickly. He won with that so we buy the nearfall when Aries kicks out of it Friday.

And I’m Like… When will Corbin start getting “same old shit” chants? I feel like he will work on the main roster and his storyline in NXT is choice due to their roster. It’s just, he wins in quick matches all the time, then loses to the big name guys. I’m sure it will be a while until he is called up so he has time to gain the skills to defeat the main eventers.

Shinsuke Nakamura video package to introduce him to us. Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, Matt Bloom and Finn Balor talk about how great he is. They talk about his flamboyance and his strong hitting style. I honestly don’t know much about him so I am interested in seeing the match with Sami on Friday.

The Revival vs. Tucker Knight and Steve Cutler

Ugh, The Revival’s theme song tho… Please I’m begging you, change it. Is Tucker Knight a relative of Dennis Knight?

There is a short video package about The Revival and how they are a rough hose tag team. Tom Phillps says Dash and Dawson wrestle an old school style. I like that idea. Jordan and Gable are a new style and they battle the old guard, even though the old guard is the same age. It’s nice to have teams with different styles.

This is the same type of match as earlier. The difference is Alpha was high intensity and fast paced. Revival are slow and plodding but they isolate and destroy. We are getting prepped for the match. It will be a psychological war as well as physical. The match will come down to what pace the match is wrestled in.

Dash and Dawson do the Shatter Machine to 300 lb Tucker Knight and they are able to pull it off by using their smarts and their team work. Dawson ran out of the ring and Tucker followed, as Dawson gets in the ring he tags Dash in. One Shatter Machine later and the champs show they aren’t the type to mess around with.

And I’m Like… My money is on Revival. They are heels and will get boo’d off of a win. Having matches on the go-home show, build to the story of the match at Takeover is a thing of beauty. That is being rewarded for paying attention. Thank you for this NXT!

Bull Dempsey promo, I can’t really care about it because Bull is gone, so this character story won’t matter because dude is gone. Good luck Bull Dempsey. He cuts a good promo, he incorporates all of his gimmicks and catchphrases into the 30 second promo. I don’t know why he left NXT but he is a talent.

Apollo Crews vs. Alex Riley

Alex Riley reminds me of an alcoholic that just woke up and hasn’t had booze yet.

Riley has been in WWE for almost a decade. He is taking it to Apollo as half the crowd chants “you still got it” and the other half chant “never had it”. Crews starts hitting his signature moves and it pretty much spells the end for Alex Riley.

And I’m Like… I feel like its Autumn with all these squashes. I don’t know what to say about this.. Apollo wins and he will beat the Drifter because of course he will. The cool thing though is that The Drifter wrote a song about Apollo Crews and he serenaded Crews after the match. Lines like “a one man nation will lose it out” Drifter also has dollars in the guitar. He bites his pic while fans in the crowd are trying to do cell phones and lighters like this was a concert. I wonder when the first time Elias’ guitar will break. Will it be in revenge because a babyface was wronged by him and the only option is destroy the guitar, or will Drifter use it to win a match?

Baron Corbin cuts a promo about how crappy Aries is, and how he will lose. He delivers a promo so long that I start yawning and nodding off. Corbin throws Virgil under the bus and talks about how Aries can sit next to Virgil at conventions to sign autographs.

We get a video package on Bayley and Asuka. There is Charlotte putting her over, Becky talks about ho great she is as we hear Bayley talking about how women will be respected. They show Izzy crying and I got choked up. Bayley says the future of NXT for women has been validated.

We then hear Asuka’s music and Regal talking about how she was the greatest signing in NXT. Emma says how dangerous she is. Dana talks about how stiff Asuka’s kicks are. Dana and Emma tell us how hard it is to fight Asuka and come out on top.

This match is gonna be bonkers!! I know Sasha is my favorite, but she became my favorite battling Bayley. Asuka gets me excited about wrestling so she is in my top 10 and oh boy I am gonna probably cry because of how amazing this match will be. I want Bayley to win and Asuka to lose it and become more dangerous.

Sami Zayn tells us about how he is on Raw now. He is facing Nakamura at Takeover and not for the title. That means Sami won’t get his X back, he has gotta move on. I wonder who will be the first two time champion.. I want to make more ex-girlfriend jokes and how Sami wants her back, I just can’t think of any!!

Zayn says this is the biggest show in NXT history. Sami says Nakamura is gonna make a first impression so this is most likely his most important match. Sami said he faced Cesaro and it put Zayn on the map. Sami points out how the cards were dealt the same for Nakamura only that Zayn is now in Cersaro’s role.

Samoa Joe vs. Bull Dempsey

Joe knows his music pretty well now, he puts his hand up just as the beat stops before it drops again. I notice how Cena always waits for that part in his song to hold his hands up. I like when wrestlers do that.

Bull has a nice touch to his character when the announcer says his weight and adds three quarter pounds at the end. That means he is so fit he knows where he is at weight wise down to a quarter pound.

I have notice that after Kevin Owens did that Irish Whip type thing where he just grabs the top of the head and throws him to the ropes. I notice Baron Corbin did that before Deep Six and Bull did it before one of his moves.

Joe wins with the Coquina Clutch.. Regal comes out with some NXT wrestlers and Joe keeps Bull choked out, he destroys all those trying to help. Regal points at Joe and gives him fair warning, Joe looks at Regal and hits the Clutch again.

Finn comes out to make the save and soccer ball kicks Joe’s face and dropkicks Joe through the barricade. This is  a crazy brawl. Joe pulls a Kevin Owens and throws his opponent into the commentators. Finn gets mad and goes onto the announce table and launches himself into Joe. That makes it so we only hear the arena and the crowd. Now I love NXT commentary but I wish WWE had an option to have commentary on or off. I like wrestling better sometimes with just crowd reactions. I am not sayin it is good for business, it would just be nice for Raw and stuff.

And I’m Like… Joe can’t beat Finn, so if Demon Finn shows up Joe is toast. The best bet is to have Finn go in demonless and lose, then he gets all demony when and fights Joe again. I really want Finn to win though, that feud with Hideo is waiting in the wings. Don’t forget, we still don’t know who jumped Hideo before he got injured.

I don’t know if I am more excited for Takeover or Mania. That is a good thing! Good wrestling at every turn. I will see you all Friday for Takeover: Dallas

Hey everyone!! It has been a while since I wrote about what’s going on in my life, that will be in italics. Normal font will be NXT!

It’s been a wild month. My daughter is almost three months old; she keeps home life busy. My wife is doing a fantastic job at home with her. Work on the other hand, it’s been interesting. I am almost done with the partnership deal, so there will be quite an adjustment. We hired back one of our waitresses and she is gelling well with the staff we have now. My dishwasher is a vet and a paranoid schizophrenic. He ran out of his psych pills last week so the past few days have been trying. We have crisis hotline cards all over the dish area, he tried calling last week. He got a voicemail and didn’t get a return call. Rumor is that the VA is understaffed and they outsource some of their other calls to different companies. I guess theses companies, if they don’t get to the call, don’t let the VA know of a voicemail. Needless to say there were some tense moments, we ended up getting him an emergency appointment, he is back on his pills and has to see a doctor once a week. It’s a sad state of affairs when you have a Veteran Crisis Hotline that won’t help Veterans in a crisis. Good luck to anyone out there that dealt with these issues.

Also, I am physically weak af. I started working out so I am able to hold my daughter for longer…

NXT OPENS!

The show starts with the intro song and then we go right to CFE arena for the show.

On the WWE App it showed Dash and Dawson now dubbed The Revival beating up Enzo outside of the performance center

American Alpha vs. Blake and Murphy

Gable seems to start every match off. Murphy and Gable collar and elbow but within seconds Gable has control and tags Jason Jordan in. Either Murphy is yelling extremely loud when he is taking offense or the crowd is dead.

Graves says Gable is so talented that he is known to dribble a bowling ball.. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!?!

It would be nice to have Biff Busick be in a tag team so we can have that moment where he outwrestles Gable.

Gable is so good that both Blake and Murphy back away from the man. The fans try to chant for Gable and Jordan in a sing song manner, Jordan waves at the crowd to keep it going… They don’t.

I have never been to a taping that lasts hours over multiple shows. I don’t know how the energy level is during those shows, if there are peaks and valleys or if it peaks at the beginning and then whimpers down. This crowd has seen many of the wrestlers and I believe are running out of steam. Crowd reaction does a lot to a match.

Jordan is doing well at playing to the crowd. When there is a “let’s go Jordan” he shurgs his shoulders to the claps. That gives off the body language to keep clapping and at the same time makes Jordan seem confident and relaxed.

Gable and Jordan tag, then do a double northern lights suplex. The Gable goes right to the arm. As Gable is working over Blake’s arm Tom Phillips says “American Alpha can be just as physical as Dawson and Dash”.

Blake and Murphy sell Gables offense so hard. The screams of pain they do as Gable applies his submissions and wear down holds, make those holds seem that much more impactful. Simple moves you see in every match seem like they hurt more when Gable applies them.

LOL Murphy gets frustrated that Gable keeps kicking out and it’s after a headlock… Who wins by headlock?

As Gable gets beat up more and more, Jordan subtlety moves on the apron. He starts looking more restless, his face gets more expressive, he starts hopping and reaching his hand toward Gable. Chad is no where near the corner but it builds anticipation for the viewer for the hot tag. They get so close and the tag doesn’t happen.

Then Gable fights out of it and tags Jordan to a pop. Jordan does over head suplexes and throws with no regard. HE does the shoulder tackle in the corner to Blake and then flapjacks Murphy. Jordan tags Gable in and the hit their finish for the win.

And I’m Like… That was a perfectly acceptable match. American Alpha continue to be entertaining and Blake and Murphy are good set pieces for stories. This time we are learning that American Alpha are a fluid team that are near unstoppable. Gable can handle his own bidness, so can Jordan. Blake and Murphy never had characters and they certainly don’t now, they can win or lose and it doesn’t really effect anything. They are there to showcase other teams, I think that could be why they were tag champs. So when your building contenders, Blake and Murphy are the team to choose because they are former champs so beating them adds credibility.

We get highlights of last week when Zayn and Joe pinned each other. Which cuts to a backstage promo by William Regal.

Regal says in two weeks we have a 2 out of 3 falls match with Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe. Regal also says a new competitor will be debuting next week.

Apollo Crews vs. Christopher Girard

HA! Speak of the devil. Biff’s name now is Christopher Girard. I don’t know how I feel about that, only because fan chanting. Chris-to-pher might work but Girard is a weird one. I like the names that have 3 to 4 syllables. Apollo Crews, Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, John Cena, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar… See what I mean? Like Curtis Axel came from Michael McGillyCutty, and how the hell you gon’ chant that name? That’s just some nit-picking.

Girard looks intense, he has that sweet generic rock music too. That’s what Daniel Bryan started with.

The match starts with some attempt at a collar and elbow, Apollo fell right away though. Christopher yells at Apollo to “come on” in the darkest villain voice. Just raspy and angry.

Apollo hits the too easy dropkick and Girard feels for his mouth instantly. Cool little sequence where Girard blocks Apollo’s suplex attempt, once by holding his own weight down by taking a knee, the second time by a slap to the stomach of Apollo. TChen Christopher does a grimace and grunt to the camera and hits a European uppercut.

Corey Graves says Girard reminds him of Gilberg….. F You Graves… f you..

Christopher does a thing that I LOVE!! He has a headlock in Apollo and he applies it like he wants it to hurt!! Girard rubs his head ontop of Apollos, he wrenches back and forth, hell he even flips Apollo backwards while still locking the head to bring Crews to the ground. Crews knows that Apollo has high impact moves that take a lot of energy, if Girard can ground Crews he can take many moves away from Apollo.

Graves talks about how “awesome” Christopher is now after these awesome headlocks and chinlocks. Crews fights out of it by standing up and dropping Girard on his back. Then Apollo hits a spear and some punches, as Girard attempts escape Apollo does not give him room to breathe at all.

Crews hits some signatures and taunts the crowd which was long enough for Girard to gain energy and fight back. Crews picks Girard up from the apron and hits his Toss Powerbomb finisher, all while Girard was throwing punches and trying to get out of the hold. Apollo wins and looks like he was in quite a fight.

And I’m Like… That was a showcase for Apollo but Girard got some of his shit in and hopefully left a Gillbergless impression on fans. A Tomasso Ciampa/ Christopher Girard match or team would be a tremendous thing.

We now see video of Bayley beating Carmella a few weeks ago. Then where Eva and Nia attack Carmella so Bayley made the save. Then the bad ladies beat on Bayley until Asuka came in for the save. Asuka, once the ring was clear of the heels, motioned to the championship and smiled at Bayley. That match will be emotional, can Bayley handle that big of an ass kicking? Hopefully we will see at Takeover: Dallas.

Bayley and Carmella are interviewed and Bayley says she was taken to her limit against Carmella and one day Carmella will be a great champion. Carmella told Bayley she is coming for the belt sooner rather than later.

Bayley was glad that Asuka was out to help her but feels the pressure. I would love to see and reverse Rocky IV with Carmella getting beat so bad by Asuka in a number one contender match because Asuka is a machine and Carmella needs to prove her self. Then Bayley will have a reason to be vicious. That would be accented even more if Bayley lost because of not interfering on Carmella’s behalf or if she did interfere, Carmella could be upset that Bayley doesn’t believe she is in the same league. This woman’s division has so many layers to it that so much is possible.

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Bull Dempsey

This is a sad one, since we know Bull already left the company. This is probably his last match in NXT.

Corey Graves doesn’t believe in moral victories but he says Tommaso impresses every time he steps in the ring. Bull comes out slapping all the fans hands. He does some work out moves and looks so happy to be out there.

Bill does a comedy spot that I saw Brad Maddox do once. The shirt he wears is too small so he needs the ref to help him take the shirt off. Bull and the ref struggle to remove the shirt as the crowd chants “Buuuuull” and when the shirt is removed the crowd pops and Bull congratulates himself.

Bull goes for a test of strength and makes Ciampa do jumping jacks.. Ciampa laughs but it was just to get Bulls guard down. Tommaso throws some heavy hands at Bull who knocks Ciampa on his ass. Because before Bull was Bullfit he was the “last of a dying breed” and could fight.

Ciampa fights by the “hit me hard and I’ll hit you harder”. He attacks Bull with blow after blow and starts working over Bull’s left arm. Bull does his punches where the crowd chants Bull, Dempsey goes for a left handed punch but Tommaso is able to reverse it and apply his armbar for the victory.

And I’m Like… Yeah, Ciampa and Girard on a team or feud please.. Even though Tommaso won, this is about Bull. His career was rather short in NXT. I am sure the door is always open for a return down the road. I liked the Bullfit gimmick at first, then the Bullfit puns and stuff was funny too. I feel like he should have done some Simon Dean/Dashin Cody Rhodes deals and done vignettes on his work outs. Maybe even, instead of selling a shirt on wweshop, he could sell legit workout tapes. He presented himself as a very lovable character, best to him in the future!

Samoa Joe gets interviewed and its a Aaron Sorkin esque walk and talk. Joe says he is the reason NXT is hot, he thinks he made it hot. He feels bad for Sami for having to suffer twice as much because it’s a two out of three falls match.

There is a commercial for WrestleMania, they use another Flo-Rida song. I feel like this song would be a good one if they are going for that type of style.

Sami Zayn gets interviewed. He says he is ready and that is not the issue. He knows what it takes to win a 2 out of 3 falls match. He has tunnel vision to become champion.

B aymella vs. Nia Jax and Eva Marie

Nia and Eva are a team but come out separately. Corey Graves makes me want to mute the dang show because of how he vomits excitement over Eva Marie and won’t let Tom Phillips talk…. it’s stupid. I don’t see how that can help at all, he is putting over that she is hot? That doesn’t help the wrestling show… I like the soul claps in her crappy song though!

Carmella and Bayley come out separately also. I guess only Dana and Emma come out as a team. Corey also brings up her looks, he is not Jesse for our generation, he is Jerry Lawler with a douche of Matt Striker.

Bayley comes out and is about to air five the crowd. She hesitates at first to make sure Eva and Nia won’t attack her. It’s the little things!!

Carmella doing Thesz presses and punches, she does it three times in a row. Ballsy move by NXT to have Eva and Carmella start the match. Ring General Bayley gets in there and beats up Eva enough that she has to take Nia in.

Nia dominates quickly and tags Eva back in. Nia stand on Bayleys calf to control her. Eva taunts. The gameplan for Nia and Eva confuses me. Eva gets dominated by Bayley and Carmella. Neither girl can get a move in on Nia though. Why would Nia and Eva decide that the best option for the fight is to have Eva be in there at any time?

Bayley and Carmella do some double teaming and double moonwalking.

Eva is screaming for Nia and she finally is able to get rid of Carmella and tag Jax in. The story continues where no one can do much to Jax. Nia is walking around slowly and wrestling like the giant she is. She is dumb like a giant too and tags Eva in.

Eva goes for ONE move but taunts so Carmella rolls her up for two. Eva tags out after that and Jax is back on the attack to Carmella’s back. She is bearhugging the Staten Island attitude out of Carmella. Carmella remembers London and front facelocks Nia. Jax tags out and that starts a quick tag session between Eva and Nia. Having Bayley on the apron waiting for the hot tag is detrimental to the match. These girls got some work to do on their own if Bayley isn’t there to bail them out.

The crowd chants “Hey we want some Bayley” which is the inferior chant once “Hey Bayley, ooh ahh, I waannt for you to be my girl”

Bayley gets the hot tag and hits her 5 moves of doom. She only is interrupted at the pin attempt by Nia. Jax headbutts the crap out of Bayley. Bayley tags Carmella who tries to submit Eva but Nia breaks it up. Jax then realizes she is the Cass to Eva’s Enzo and has to win the match on her lonesome. She Carmella is dazed, Jax runs at Bayley and does the Vader running chest/clothesline/clap thing. Then she grabs Eva by the leg, drags her to the corner, tags in. Nia is the only one not on the ground and she is moving these ladies around like she is playing action figures.

Nia then hits three consecutive leg drops and Eva tags her self in and grabs the pin. Nia let her do it too, she didn’t even care.

And I’m Like… This needs explanation. Why is Nia with Eva? It can’t have anything to do with wrestling because as Nia just showed she doesn’t need any help. Maybe its for more exposure, maybe she wants to be on Total Divas, maybe she sees how crap Eva is but is still getting opportunities. There are many questions I have for that pairing. Bayley and Carmella were not a good team tonight, that is because they weren’t focused on their opponents. They cared more about entertaining the crowd and having fun, and in the end it cost them because Nia is all bidness.

That was a fun episode, it ended with William Regal telling Finn he is almost the record holder for longest time being NXT Champion. He will face the current record holder Neville next week.

The build is slow but we are almost a month away from the next Takeover. That gives us four or five episodes until the show, we have plenty of time to get emotionally invested.

NXT Opening-

We go from intro theme to

American Alpha vs. Blake and Murphy

This was a match that was hyped last week. Corey Graves was talking about how deep this tag division is, deeper than it has ever been in NXT.

Jordan got one of his legs caught after a kick attempt, every time Murphy tried to sweep him he jumped with the greatest of agility. Jordan tags Gable in and Gable surgically takes down Murphy and Blake with wrestling moves.

Blake was showing some of his athleticism but it had no chance up against Gable’s athleticism and countering ability. Gable should call out Ricky Steamboat and they can have an arm-drag off (arm-drag race).

Murphy went on a leapfrog and seems to have seriously hurt his knee. He motions to Blake as the crowd is quiet in worry. Blake runs in and Murphy ‘miraculously’ gets better and chop block Chad’s leg. “Save The Gable” chant.

I still don’t know what Blake and Murphy are about other than the dubstep version of a wrestling tag team. Then again I don’t know what dubstep is about so maybe that is it.

Jordan was waiting for a while but was able to get the hot tag. He suplexes everything in sight, even belly-to-bellies Blake on top of Murphy. They follow that up with their finisher that is not named.

And I’m Like… Those are the third former NXT Tag Team champions American Alpha has beaten. They are so getting the titles at Takeover, no way a team gets built this much just to lose to Dash and Dawson. I am afraid the team I’ve dubbed Carolina Wrecking Crew are the Stan Stasiak of the NXT tag division. The problem for me is that the main roster tag division is weak once again so I would like American Alpha to not peak just yet by winning the belts. The sooner they are called up the sooner we won’t hear the creative chants and applause for Gable, Jordan, and how they can wrestle.

Emma and Dana Brooke are interviewed about Carmella and Asuka. Dana Brook says Alex the Interviewer isn’t important. Dana says that last week was all about Bayley, Carmella can not do a thing. Emma says Carmella doesn’t have the skills to beat Bayley. Emma says Blue Pants doesn’t even work here and beat Carmella. Dana ends the promo with “bada bing unluckiest girl in the ring” signature head pat and we are done.

Special look at Asuka in NXT

We start off by seeing Asuka smiling after getting slapped. She taps out Dana Brooke and then we see her kick all the ass NXT had to offer.

Nia Jax vs. Liv Morgan

Ok, seeing that Liv Morgan had no entrance this is a showcase. One problem I have is Nia’s entrance. The lyrics are “I’m not like most girls” outside of her weight, based on Breaking Ground. Nia is like most girls, she is girly, she gets nervous for her debut, she wants to be the best, she knows how to do make-up, and is in love with her mom.

Corey Graves also is just…. he doesn’t want to talk and just wants to “enjoy” the girls in the ring… stop it. I might not be like most guys but I don’t see how talking about how attractive these girls are helps at all. Like tonight in the main event if someone says “Damn look at Baron Corbin, I love his leather pants and how he is fitting in them” does that help the story or the match at all?

This match was definitely a showcase. Nia had her way with Liv. It would be like me wrestling my two month daughter. Sometimes when I hold her and she is fussy, she bangs her head into my chest, I just reposition her and she really can’t do anything about it. Liv tries to fight but there is really nothing she can do.

And I’m Like… That match existed, it furthers the belief that Nia is unstoppable to most of the woman’s division in NXT, except for the champ Bayley. Eva is still her manager too, which would be a cool change if Eva never wrestled again and just managed.

Carmella cuts a promo on Emma and who she calls “Little Miss Piggy” Dana Brooke. She says she can handle it all by her self. She kept her eastern accent but she was ALL BIDNESS. Cass then took over and brought up Dash and Dawson. Cass says “all fluff and no stuff? Well, it appears to me that you’ve been stuffing your faces because of all that fluff you have behind those belts.” Enzo said he was on edge since London, he didn’t have a Merry Christmas because he didn’t come home with titles. “ya get tuned up, and I’m putting the Midas touch on it. We don’t give a damn about you, we don’t give a damn about anything you got to say. You are looking at stars, finish your cup of average Joe and move the hell on.”

Baron Corbin vignette about him hating people from the Indies and being dominate.

Vaudevillians get one more of those “we are turning heel” videos.

Bull Dempsey vs. Alex Riley

HOLY SHIT! Alex Riley is still a thing? I remember one time I cheered for him, he just turned on the Miz and had this dope ass entrance song. What is crazy is he has been around for a while and is still like a jobber of NXT. Corey Graves says Alex Riley and Tom Phillips follow themselves on Tinder.

Phillps bring up that Riley is still a wrestler and not a commentator because of his feud with Kevin Owens where he gave up his commentating position. The crowd is pretty much dead… No chants or cheers, I think we all feel the same.. What?!? Alex Riley?!? What is he about?

Alex is dominating though, speaking of are people still a thing. Marcus Louis? Corey Graves says Riley looks a little crazy. Riley wins with a spinebuster and flying knee. Doesn’t garner much of a reaction other than some woo’s and claps..

And I’m Like… Tom Phillips says that is not the Alex Riley that he remembers. If it’s the “I’m going crazy gimmick” I’ve seen enough of that in PPW . This is kind of and interesting angle to take though. I’m not sure where it can go but I’m sure NXT won’t let us down… Will they?

Elias Sampson is the Drifter and we just see him playing guitar before he wrestles… If his gimmick is meaningless guy that you see staring into candles and lamps at coffeehouses, he is FUCKIN NAILING IT. There is no substance to those people other than “I have a guitar so I am deep and different”, so there should be no substance to him right? It’s hard for that kind of character to garner a reaction but that is why he is The Drifter and not that Folk Singing Superstar.

Alex Riley isn’t talking to anyone we know. He starts with “what? You surprised to see me? For the last four months I’ve been making calls, writing e-mails, sending texts all the way to Stamford. Letting them know how I have been feeling when, when I will be back. You know how many responses I got? Zero. I have had a lot of time on my hands, I have watched a lot of WWE Network and NXT. You know what I see every week and three weeks leading up to it. Sami Zayns return THE EXACT DAY. I know what Apollo Crews had for breakfast three days ago. I don’t see Alex Riley anywhere? I guess that is what hard work and 8 years in this business gets you. So to answer my question, you are surprised.”

Tom Phillips says “Riley is back whether you like him or not.”

And I’m Like… I was surprised that I was into that. Him being in a dark room resembles his mood, it feels cheesy but Alex Riley feels cheesy all the time. He never really had a character other than “himself Alex Riley”. Maybe “disgruntled employee” will be a thing… Maybe they can Eva Marie him and saddle him up with Baron Corbin or something.

Elias Sampson vs. Local Talent

Elias knows how his theme song goes, as he sits on the top of the rope and takes his shirt off when the song turns up a notch. Graves doesn’t understand why we need Elias in NXT.

Elias is doing a kind of slow and menacing wrestling style that is nuanced with quick rapid strikes and attacks. Almost psychotic, Corey Graves says “he has a lot of deep seeded issues based on the aggression he’s showing.” Sampson does a Randy Orton type backwards slide into the turnbuckle where he channeled his inner Raven. Sampson hit a fast neck breaker for the win.

And I’m Like… This episode is reminding me of an episode of Mid-South wrestling. There is so much going on, so quickly, and the matches last mere minutes. I swear if there is a screwy finish in the end, NXT just tried to copy Mid-South for one hour.

Mojo asks Zack Ryder what is with the Vaudevillains. Mojo is fighting with Zack Ryder. Zack says Mojo can’t talk anymore. Mojo sends Zack Ryder Zubas cause chicks love them. He tells Ryder he watches him sleep and knows he sleeps in Zubas. Ryder doesn’t want Mojo to watch him sleep anymore. They are some weird dudes… or bro’s or whatever.

Samoa Joe had a hype video too… he says he is getting what is owed to him and everyone has been warned.

We see a two months ago video of Finn vs. Apollo that Corbin interfered on, one of the few non-finishes in NXT so the out side interference meant something. That is a hype video for the rematch next week. It will be non-title.

Number One Contenders Match

Samoa Joe vs.

Sami Zayn

Hey… y’all check out Baron’s leather?!?

Before the match starts the NXT Universe is “ole’ing”. Corey points out there is no countout and no DQ. Tom wants to wonder who that helps the most. That is a good question. I would say Sami because he is the smallest dog in the fight. Sami went for a suicide dive on Corbin but Joe pulled Zayn’s leg and started working him over outside. Samoa Joe even rolls in the ring and out the ring to “break the count” even though the ref isn’t counting. It’s just muscle memory.

Joe takes Corbin out after he is done with Sami. Guess what Joe does? Rolls in and out of the ring lol.

It’s weird that this is a recording and Sami came out at the Rumble. Usually any accomplishment a person has the commentators talk about it, I would be sure that Sami would get lot’s of Royal Rumble talk if this was a live episode.

There are commercial breaks. I understand why they are there. NXT is the most or one of the most popular shows on the Network. Might as well put over your other shows when you can. At the same time, NXT is your bread and butter on this sandwich, and your cutting out the middle and expecting me to appreciate the rest of the sandwich. Bitch I want my sandwich whole, that’s when I get satisfied. These “road trip” commercials take me out of my element.

Sami tries for another dive to the outside but this time Corbin tries to stop him. Zayn throws Corbin over the top and then was able to land his plancha on both men. Sami chooses Baron as the guy to throw in. Corbin makes Sami wish he chose Joe when Baron hit Deep Six on Sami for two.

Samoa Joe beat up Baron and Sami and hit a senton on Sami who was on Corbin. Joe throws Sami into the turnbuckle and the way Zayn sells it has me falling in love. Just rams his head into the turnbuckle and Sami just crumbled. He has Bret Hart levels of selling.

Joe was sick of playing around went for a Muscle Buster on Zayn, Corbin was able to make the save after a back and forth struggle. Corbin throws Joe out and tries to superplex Sami, Zayn throws Baron off and is able to turn a small sequence into a Blue Thunder Bomb. This triple threat is like a mini-one on one match. Every guy has paired off with each other and done some moves. The third guy surprise attacks and then they trade places. It isn’t bad but it keeps the constant action up, and the pace slowed down .

Joe was taking it too Baron Corbin and Corbin was able to End his Days. Sami got up to break the pin attempt. Corbin knew he lost if it wasn’t for Sami so he freaks out and beats the alabaster off of Zayn. As Corbin is screaming Sami takes advantage and is able to Helluva kick Corbin. That would have been a three count but Joe tSincook Sami out of the ring. Sami retaliates by shoving Joe into the steps. Everyone is exhausted.

I know Sami is from Canada but his version of the Sharpshooter looks like it was taught to him by The Rock. Kevin Owens gots him on that move. Joe sees that and runs in and instead of breaking up the Sharpshooter, Joe applies the crossface. That makes it so both competitors had their back to the other, and Baron tapped out quick because it was a painful move. The referee hasn’t made a decision though.

The crowd wants these two to hug it out, but that ain’t gonna happen. Tom is asking who Baron tapped out to? It’s ok cause Regal is out to settle matters.

Regal says he can’t give an answer until he reviews the tape and makes a better decision. As Samoa Joe makes it up the ramp he says sorry to Sami Zayn.

And I’m Like… It was a wonky finish… it’s not a bad finish or a non-finish, it was just wonky. Since Finn is facing Crews next week, look for a Joe vs. Sami match next week or I the future I am guessing. I really thought Baron would advance and a Joe/Zayn feud would start because neither have happened yet from a long term feud stand point. Oh well, gotta wait til next week. This is one of those “building” shows, where everything is good, but It doesn’t have that emotional impact we will feel come Takeover.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and all that! Christmas is one of my 3 days off a year, so it’s always nice to sleep in an extra hour or so. I hope everyone has a swell time doing whatever you’re doing this weekend.

NXT Opening-

The show opens with a video package of highlights from last week’s Takeover:London. I remember how I felt when Takeover happened but this video package makes it feel even bigger than it was.

We are still in London for this week too.

The Vaudevillians vs. Hype Bros. vs. Blake and Murphy vs. Jason Jordan and Chad Gable

The Vaudevillians entrance started and a lot of the arena knew the opening statements of their song. The Villains come out in Sherlock Holmes clothes. The camera seems to speed up a bit to mimic moving pictures of the 1920’s.

Hype Bro’s come out to some boo’s but a good number of cheers too! I bet Mojo is the most hype tonight because of this crowd. Byron said he would trade front row tickets to Taylor Swift to hang out with the Hype Bros.

Blake and Murphy get a pop too but their entrance isn’t much.

Jordan and Gable get a huge reaction and look ready for a great match. Jordan does that Brock Lesnar jump from the floor to the ring apron. The crowd is chanting for Gable and Jordan but I’m not sure what they are saying.

It’s funny that the Villains got cheers until Jordan and Gable came out. Gable and Gotch are having a wrestling clinic in there and Gable gets a pop for taking Gotch down by the arm.

Mojo tagged himself in at the expense of Chad Gable and the crowd boo’s. “We Want Gable” chants. Gable and Jordan jump in to clear the ring and the crowd gets LOUD! London is firmly behind Gable and Jordan.

We went to commercial and come back with Ryder pinning English. Just as the pin happened ALL THE TEAMS ran in to break it up. Gable snuck a tag by hitting Ryders back. The crowd cheers and does a “Chad Gable” type song chant, I can’t figure out what the song is though.

Gable with the most beautiful flying head scissors this side of Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell. Gable is beating up EVERYONE and the crowd is loving every moment of it. If you didn’t think Gable was a star before this, gaging this reaction, he is a star now.

Gable got stomped by Murphy and now he is getting worked over as the crowd screams “Save the Gable”. This match is the most fun right now. I am not sure if it is because Gable or the crowds reactions to Gable.

Give a props to every team wearing matching gear. That goes a long way in establishing a division. Gable is still in the match while the Villains and Blake and Murphy have been tagging in and out. Gable went for a hot tag and Murphy was able to pull Jordan off the apron.

Gable was able to reverse a double team move and hot tag Jordan who got the crowd so hype. Jordan is a suplex machine. He does belly to belly’s, exploders, german’s, basically any kind of suplex was thrown and landed by Jason Jordan. The crowd aptly responds with a “suplex city” chant. Jordan even overhead belly to belly’s Murphy.

Jordan is way intense and sets up the running shoulder in the corner for his and Gables finisher. The crowd erupts SO LOUD.

And I’m Like… WOW! This is the kind of reaction you want in every match. The fact that no matter when Jordan and Gable are on they get this type of reaction. Every team involved did great. C’mon though, you will always be second fiddle to Gable and Jordan.

Emma and Dana are in the back recouping after last week and Emma is getting her face looked at. Dana starts talking ish until Asuka shows up. Dana turns her back on Asuka and Emma tries to kick Asuka from the doctor’s table. Once Asuka walks away Dana asks Emma if she is gone. Then Dana says they gotta get serious and “Playtime is Over”

Then we see an AMAZING video of NXT touring the U.K.  I can’t take NXT sometimes, they just pull all these emotions out of me that I didn’t know I had. Pride for a brand, joy for the entertainers, belonging with the fans. Top notch you guys. Wrestling is the best.

There is a Sami Zayn returns video with the most epic music too.

Tye Dillinger is talking about what it takes to be the Perfect 10. He says some typical wrestling stuff and ends with a new catch phrase “Everyday in everyway, Tye Dillinger is a perfect 10”

We see that NXT:Midwest is sold out…

You know who is in the Midwest? Minnesota! You know who is not on the tour MINNESOTA! That is the first thing NXT has done to truly upset me… ugh YOUR SO CLOSE JUST COME HERE!

The Drifter talks as he picks his guitar. He says no one is better than him. There has got to be a plan. I guess he is next.

They have almost recapped every match on Takeover. I would recap these recaps but c’mon just read last week’s write up.

Because Baron won he is declaring himself the Number One Contender and the Uncrowned NXT Champion.

Bull Dempsey vs. Elias Sampson

It feels like Bull has new music. He is super excited to be there and is wearing a boxing robe and such. I don’t know how to feel about Bull.

Elias Sampson comes out to a song with no lyrics which is weird. All his vignettes were singing and talking. He is wearing a scarf and what appears to be normal clothes and not gear. He looks like Damien Sandows little brother. His entrance consists of walking to the ring and sitting in the corner, brooding. All of a sudden Sampson is in wrestling gear! His pants tricked me.

I don’t really like when someone is getting beat up in the corner and the cameraman moves the camera to mimic the kicks. It dizzies me.

Dempsey had quite a run of luck going for him but Elias hit a big knee to drop Bull. Elias tells us to shush and hits a Macho Man Elbow Drop… and wow.. it was really good… Like a really good elbow drop. CM Punk eat your heart out. It isn’t Macho Man pinpoint, but it’s a good one.

And I’m Like…. He is playing an acoustic guitar after he won the match, the song sounds pretty electric if not electric acoustic. That is something that annoys me, he might not know how to play but loves to act like it. He is so that guy that brings guitars to parties for attention. Our last image is him biting his pic.

Annoying all around and I love it.

Dash and Dawson gave credit to The Realest Guys. They say that that night wasn’t their night. They said they are the best tag team on this planet.

Sami Zayn epic music again. Like Tchaikovsky or something.

Tye Dillinger vs. Sami Zayn

Tye Dillinger is getting SUCH a reaction. He really knows how to work his entrance. The up’s and down’s and his movements work just brilliantly. As Tye looks on the crowd starts “Ole’ing” and Sami’s music hits.

OH SHIT! This is a moment.. I’m getting vaklempt. The crowd is clapping and chanting. It’s amazing how much I’ve never realized I missed Sami Zayn. He is skanking in the ring and loving every minute of it.

“Welcome Back” interspersed with “ole”. To Dillinger’s credit he seems unphased.

Dillinger goes right for the previously injured shoulder of Sami. Any time Sami comes at Tye, The Perfect 10 out wrestles him to something that affects Sami’s shoulder. Dillinger is getting “10” chants and puts the fingers up in Sami’s face.

Zayn hits himself in the head and is visibly showing he has ring rust. That is a great story mechanic. Corey Graves puts over that this is the perfect time for Tye to win and build momentum. Too bad for Dillinger, Sami is an arm draggin dragon and gets the advantage quickly.

Dillinger sells very well too. Sami hits a knife edge chop and Dillinger slowly turns while taking a deep breath and looking shocked. That makes so much sense to me and adds to the impact of a single chop.

We come back with Sami fighting out of an arm lock. He is pulling at Dillingers fingers to release the pressure from Zayn’s shoulder. Dillinger keeps up the attack by doing a patented NXT Lock.

The reason this stuff works in NXT is because the fans of NXT tend to be the most passionate WWE fans. These fans understand wrestling on a deeper level, so when wrestlers do rest holds or limb specific moves, it’s better understood in the story. Where a WWE crowd would chant boring or sit on their hands, a NXT crowd will get more invested in what is going on. That leads for bigger reactions which makes for bigger moments.

Sami is able to hit another dive to the outside, goes to follow that up by getting on the top rope. He notices Tye coming at him so he dives off, rolls thru, and hits a blue thunder bomb for two.

Zayn kicks out of a tights pulling schoolboy and INSTANTLY gets a super kick to the face for another two. Sami is doing what he does best, looking super beat up that he can barely stand. Sami is able to make it to the corner and work a reversal into an exploder into the turnbuckle and a HELLUVA Kick.

And I’m Like… That felt good. The match was a great match, told an easy story, and delivered. The crowd was invested, I was invested, and Sami is back! Sami Zayn is the Feel Good Wrestler of the Century. Even when he does his cheesy ass promos about being in a ska band.

Sami grabs the mic and says “I’M BACK!!” The crowd does the “welcome back” that bleeds into “Ole” and Sami starts tearing up, he can’t even say many more words. He says when dreams come true for him they turn to nightmares. When he won the NXT Championship and when he wrestled in his hometown against John Cena. He says “tonight that trend is broken” The crowd does a “Thank You Sami” chant and he says your very very very welcome. He says that there is 10,000 people in Wembley. The crowd responds with “10,10,10” haha! Zayn promises that more great things are in store for NXT and Sami Zayn. He ends it with the crowd and him in unison going “WE ARE NXT”.. That we are Sami. That we are!

And I’m Like… gonna go celebrate the Holiday because holy hell.. Sami gets me in a good mood!!

What’s up y’all? I hope your day was pleasant. Mine was not, not saying there weren’t positive things that happened throughout the day. My Wife bailed me out of a jam, was able to put money in the bank, and I still have a lot to be grateful for. Having people commit to something and then back out is something I am not grateful for having. See, the wife is pregnant and due about 18 days from now. We own a restaurant and it was just us two working, well do to child making circumstances we need some more help. My niece is working with me seven days a week, but her dad, my brother, just got done with heart surgery and needs daily rides to rehab. This is where we were told the new person would come in handy, cover two of the seven days for my niece. Well today 20 minutes before shift, someone’s foot hurts too bad to work, and surgery on said foot is scheduled for 5 days from now. Finding this out through text message is the pits. I know it sounds like I’m complaining, but after watching Breaking Ground and then watching NXT, I feel compelled to say, no matter what field you are in. If you make excuses, don’t keep your word, take other people for granted, and don’t take responsibility for what you did not do, you are only hurting yourself and the chances you could have in the future. People respect dependability, performance or work related. I respect NXT because it is a dependable wrestling program that, if Breaking Ground is a true indication, hires dependable performers and passionate ones.

Onto the show. Let me know if there is ever anything that could be done better in these reviews, I am always trying to better my abilities.

NXT OPENING-

Finn Balor vs. Apollo Crews title match is tonight! There is a video package that says “Welcome to Apollo Nation” and shows Crews path to the NXT Title match. Little to no mention of Balor.

Asuka vs. Cameron

Well, if Eva Marie ever needs a tag partner… Cameron.

I’m not excited for Cameron or her singing her theme song. I am excited for Asuka kicking Cameron’s ass all over NXT Arena though.

I still don’t get why all the divas need different hair colors? Asuka (the short pink haired one) grabs Cameron’s (the dark purple haired one) leg off of a kick and gently puts it back down. Cameron goes to slap Asuka but Asuka catches the arm of Cameron and puts her in an armbar.

Cameron does a good amount of splits based offense. No worries though, Asuka is quick to ‘hip attack’ or rear end Cameron and do Cameron’s pose.

Cameron screams at Asuka “Are you KIDDING ME?!?!” so Asuka does two more rear views and another celebration.

I’m genuinely surprised at how fun this is. Cameron keeps getting put in submissions but to her credit rolls out of them. Asuka strikes the hell out of Cameron and an Asukalock later, we have a match.

And I’m Like… The pink short hair’d one beat the dark purple hair’d one. Asuka doesn’t really need to develop her own taunt because she yanks everyone elses. Asuka is by far the funnest performer for me to watch. Props to Cameron for being in the ring too, someone had to get beat up.

The announcers talk about Dash and Dawson (who I call Carolina Wrecking Crew) and the impact they are making on the tag division. That cuts to Carmella backstage. She gives an update on Big Cass who has a Seth Rollins injury . Carolina Wrecking Crew shows up and says Big Cass didn’t look so big, begging for his knee not to get tore apart. CWC gets a title shot at the Vaudevillians next week. “Bada Boom.. Baddest Guys in the Room” says Dash. Dawson brings out a wheelchair and tells Tom Phillips to show this to the Vaudevillians. The wheelchair has Vaudevillians written on tape on the top of the chair. I like that, nice visual and it tells us that someone will get wrecked.

Chad and Jason Jordan are backstage talking about how they need to focus their energy. Gable says people will think they are the “Worlds Greatest…” and Jordan shuts him down because comparisons . Chad asks Jason what they should do and Jordan proposes the idea of challenging “the greatest tag team in NXT history” Gable says they can’t challenge themselves. Jordan liked the comment but was referring to The Ascension. So they challenged the Ascension. YAH! YAH! YAH! Gable ends it in a pun about ascend and needs reassurance that Jordan got the joke. Haha.

Bull Dempsey vs. Angelo Dawkins w/ Sawyer Fulton

Dawkins mimics stirring a bowl cause he is “cooking up greatness” Dawkins has the two headband thing and the hand gesture. Not a good theme song or memorable moveset. I don’t know much else about him.

Bull must not either because he took Dawkins lightly in the early ons and Angelo got the upperhand. This is a developmental match for sure is what I said to myself. What I mean by that is the moves are done well and all the signature moves are happening, there just isn’t a story or much character progression. Just working in front of a crowd and camera, No drama really and Bull makes quick work of Angelo. Hard to get emotionally invested in this.

And I’m Like… Bull wins, Sawyer walks out on Dawkins at the end of the match. Maybe there is story progression. The last jobber team to break up was Tye Dillinger and Jason Jordan who Boom Boom Boom’d a promo into my heart . That lead to some good stuff so here is hoping Angelo and Sawyer gain some momentum.

Vaudevillians are interviewed near their wheelchair. They say they will beat the non-gentlemen Dash and Dawson. Vaudevillians say CWC(but not really CWC they said Dash and Dawson) maybe their toughest opponents yet. The Villains said they would win and pushed the chair away to emphasize their confidence.

Apollo is preparing for tonight. I really feel like they are putting so much shine on him that it makes me think he might win tonight. If he does can Demon Finn be the Brothers of Destruction team member?

Bayley is interviewed and asked if she has found people to team with her against Alexa Bliss and Blake and Murphy. She says she found her team and they are too hype.

BAYLEY NO! They are not good to be around! Your tryna be a roll model, don’t befriend ‘bro’s’ trying to get chicks every night. That team belongs with Eva and Cameron.

Eva Marie vs. Local Competitor

Speaking of Eva.. All Red Everything? All Bad Wrestling.. I believe is her new gimmick.

The college rapper girl is not named and had her as Local Competitor . Eva does a simple wrestling move and taunts, because her gimmick is “bad at wrestling” which blows my mind. I try and break it down in my head and it’s like calculus to me. See, she can screw up a move, and then they work it into her story arc. She botched a pin and the next week they set it up to purposely botch a pin. They know she is bad at wrestling, so her doing one move and taunting would acknowledge that she is celebrating the basics. She is at this stage where if she screws up, you can legitimately think they did it on purpose. It’s like reinventing kayfabe, we know its fake so we are upset at the people who make it look fake. We want our fake wrestling to look real. Since most of the NXT Universe is on that level, you can legit be a ‘bad wrestler’ character and get a reaction from the crowd. It’s so WEIRD TO ME.

Red hair is so gonna beat blonde hair though. Eva misses a kick (on purpose?)

and NXT Arena chants “What was that?” cause we want our fake wrestling to look real. Eva does a move that I can’t quite make out what it is. She wins with it too!

And I’m Like… Graves calls Eva NXT’s Little Red Corvette which is NOT A COMPLIMENT. These matches are very intriguing. I don’t know if I like them or not, but they are interesting, I can’t figure out her character and if she is bad on purpose or somehow NXT makes it seem that way…

Emma and Dana Brooke (or the brunette fade to blonde and the silver hair’d one) talk about Asuka. Emma says they have the utmost respect for her, it’s just her smile. Dana says that Asuka patting Dana on the head is disrespectful and Asuka needs to be taught a lesson. Fun!

NXT Championship Match

Finn Balor (c) vs. Apollo Crews

Apollo told Rich Brennen that his worst fear is failing. (ME TOO!)

Finn’s entrance gets more and more exceptional. The intro that used to be just a heart beat then theme . Now there is a guitar build up with drums! The whole crowd being Finn fans add to it too.

Finn kinda looks like he got a Lloyd Christmas haircut .

The face off before the battle is pretty damn sweet. Love the lighting and anything that makes the match feel more special. Balor isn’t in Demon form either. Does that mean he does not respect Apollo Crews’ ability or view him as a threat? That adds to the drama of the match and factors into Apollo’s chances of winning.

The first part of the match before the commercial is chain wrestling. When we come back from break Crews does flippy stuff and hits a “Too Easy” Dropkick. Balor fires back and we get into a signature spots fest. Finn slows it down with rest holds being more of a heel in the match. Finn is soundly beating Apollo, proving he didn’t need the Demon paint.

Crews got hit with a seated dropkick by Balor but soon after returned the dropkick on Finn in a cool eye for an eye spot. We go back to signature spotfest and hard hits and flippy shit. Another commercial.

I assume that is the last break so we can have an Act 3. Big moves and big move reversals, showing that Apollo and Normal Finn are equals. The commercials really took me out of the match. Finn reverses Crews Flip Splash finisher and hits a

Bloody Sunday for 2. Shotgun dropkick by Finn but misses the Coup De Grais. Crews hits an Axe kick but Finn is quick to Pele Apollo in the head. Crowd goes “Holy Shit” and Baron Corbin comes out for the DQ.

And I’m Like… A DQ finish like that doesn’t happen too often in NXT so it has a good effect. Baron inserts himself in the title picture, and Crews didn’t lose so he stays in it. Baron takes out Apollo and goes for Balor, Samoa Joe comes out for the save. After a staredown with Corbin, Joe stands tall. Then he turns his attention to Finn and lariats his ass. Joe inserts himself as the 4th man that could be the Face of NXT.  Joe sets Finn up for the Muscle Buster and yells at him before busting Balor’s muscles. That was fun, it makes me excited for next week!

Hello everyone, I am reviewing NXT as it happens tonight and not during work like usual. My brother had a successful heart surgery and is recovering, he is in pain but that’s expected. I’ll watch NXT and review it like I do Raw. Then rewatch it for screen grabs.

NXT Opening Video

• We get a Takeover:Respect video package.
• I’ve watched that Sasha and Bayley match three times now.. Still gets me!
• This video package makes this Ironman match seem even more epic than it was when I watched it for the first time.
• Love you NXT!

Bayley Promo

• Bayley comes out to the crowd clapping along to the beat.
• Huge air fives to everyone in the crowd and “Bayley” chants
• Before she can start her promo, she looks very proud and humbly receives “match of the year” chants
• She says the whole Takeover Special was all about Respect.
• Dusty Rhodes is a huge reason why the Diva’s are where they are
• Bayley reiterates that she always dreamed of this, just like Sasha Banks. “You Deserve It” chants fill the arena
• She said they raised the level in the Diva’s Revolution. “Woman’s Wrestling” chants and she said “Yes we want Woman’s wrestling to be respected.”
• Alexa Bliss comes out? Surprising!

Alexa Bliss Confronts Bayley

• As Alexa stands there she is showered in boo’s
• “Bayley, what you accomplished last week, was incredible, I was in total awe. No one deserves to be champ more than you do right now. That’s really all I had.”
• Alexa looks like she is a bout to cry and says she is happy to share this moment with Bayley
• She then steals the Woman’s belt. “I’m not like you Bayley, I didn’t write about this when I was 10.”
• My wife says Bayley doesn’t look threatened.. she looks like “bitch please”
• Alexa says Bayley doesn’t deserve to be champion.

And I’m Like… Intrigued that Alexa is the new challenger. Bayley is a fighting champion and I’m sure she can put a good match on with any Diva. Good starting off point, we are already emotionally invested and Alexa is already getting “your not worthy” chants.

Finn and Joe have a post-match interview on WWE.com about their win. William Regal shows up to congratulate them. Joe says that tagging with Finn was an honor. He tells Balor he could have gone about it many different ways but he would like a shot at the title. Finn says you got it. Regal says well “it’s not that easy, focusing on the tag tournament, we’ve lost focus on who is number one contender.” Regal says next week(which is this week) is a Number One Contender Battle Royal. Joe looks frustrated.

And I’m Like… NXT is awesome, in under 10 minutes, they begin two new title feuds and both make sense, have a tangible sporting aspect to it, and have characters with emotions. No matter what that battle royal will be fun cause there will be consequence.

Another Breaking Ground preview and my wrestling allergies are starting to flare up. This will be such a linchpin to caring about the NXT Superstars.

Tye Dillenger talks about tonight’s battle royal “There can only be ONE number one contender, and that’s the perfect 10”

Apollo Crews “Since day one since I got here I said I wanted to be NXT champion. Once I win and beat Finn Balor I’ll be the NXT champion”

Rhyno “In my mind I’ve already won the battle royal because I was the face of a revolution, I was the last ECW Champion, and tonight when I win the battle royal I will be the face of the New Revolution”

Vaudevillians vs. Angelo Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton

• The Vaudevillians have quite the following in NXT and have such a great entrance. Talk about creating an image and setting yourself apart.
• Sawyer looks like The Barbarian
• Angelo looks like MVP’s little brother
• Byron Saxton says that Sawyer Fulton is weird because “he once told me he wrestles with thumbtacks in his boots to keep him on edge.”
• Simon Gotch hits a beautiful innovative hot tag combination. “That was manly” chants
• The Whirling Dervish puts away Angelo Dawkins and the Vaudevillians get the crowd a clapping in approval

And I’m Like… Reminded that the Villains are our champions of the tag division and that the teams waiting in the wings are still looking pretty good.

Carolina Wrecking Crew ask Devin Taylor if they thought the match was impressive. They say it’s impressive to the untrained eye. They do some math with dividing and rounding and figure themselves Number One Contenders. Dawson says in his mind “We are the champions right now.” Dash shows humor with “oh what a beautiful mind.” CWC puts The Realest Guys in the Room on notice. “When we render a body part useless, we completely tear apart their anatomy.” They tell Devin to ask Enzo and Cass “how you doin?”

And I’m Like… Happy we can see some character work out of CWC. Kinda cocky and goofy. Serious in the ring though, I like it.

Asuka and Dana Brooke recap, we are reminded how Asuka is THE badass. Dana gets her neck checked by the trainer as Asuka shows up to pat Brooke on the head and smile at Emma. Dana says she beat Asuka and Emma tells the trainer to “check her head”

Evie vs. Nia Jax

• Evie? That will confuse my cousin cause there is already a Eva Marie that my cousin calls Eve. AND THERE IS AN OLD DIVA NAMED EVE!
• Nia is debuting and supposed to be dominating.. First thought, her song is not frightening
• Nia is like Beth Pheonix and Awesome Kong had a kid. I want to see her against ODB!
• Nia is using her weight to her advantage. She does running splashes and hip attacks. The crowd is trying to be hype but it’s not really working.
• Nia starts talking poop to Evie and Evie lands a few kicks but then gets caught in the Verdict made famous by David Otunga

And I’m Like… Waiting to form an opinion, this was my first glance and I can’t really decide if I like her or not. We will see.

We see a video package of Sasha and Bayley again. It’s different than the earlier one. This time we have actual Superstars talking about how amazing the match was. My cousin did not like it “cause we knew what would happen”. I’m glad he will see that he is in the minority and this is something to get accustomed too. Once the pride of what these women are doing wears off, this will become routine and not so emotional. Damn though! I’m loving this ride we are on.

Tyler Breeze “Anyone who needs an opportunity at the NXT Title, It’s me Prince Pretty.”

Baron Corbin “when its all said it done there will be one man left standing, the Lone Wolf, your new number one contender, All Hail”

Eva Marie cuts a promo in Paris. Her promo is super shitty. She says she has had grueling matches, I won’t boo her for that, I will boo her cause she is not good at her job…. yet?

Number One Contender Battle Royal

• We join during Rhynos entrance followed by Baron Corbins, the majority of the competitors are already in the ring.
• Samoa Joe comes out next. This NXT entrance trope has me believing that whoever we witness coming out will be one of the guys that win.
• CWC and Rhyno and Baron Corbin all beat on Joe cause he was part of the team that eliminated all 4 guys in the Dusty Tag Classic
• Joe almost got eliminated. I remember Jim Ross saying Battle Royals are the hardest to call. That makes sense to me because I’m trying to find talking points but there is just so much going on.
• I always wondered, maybe it has happened but not to my knowledge, why hasn’t anyone handcuffed themselves to the middle rope in a battle royal?
• Steve Cutler got eliminated and so did Danny Burch and The Drifter, all by Apollo Crews
• Apollo throws Johnny Gargano over the top onto the enhancement talents and Commercial?
• We are back from commercial and I don’t know who has been eliminated
• Enzo has polka dot pants.. Sweet.
• Alot of near eliminations but alot of standing around too.
• I realized I like Royal Rumbles better than Battle Royals because of the countdown. When there is more than like six people in the ring I get too lost in what’s going on. I like stories in my matches. Royal Rumble has the ability to tell so many stories. I guess Battle Royals do too, it’s just harder for me to follow personally.
• Big Cass and CWC were eliminated, also some tall guy.
• Enzo was tossed over by 10 Dillenger, Tye was beat up and thrown over by Bull Dempsey.
• Bull gets eliminated by Corbin and Rhyno. Mojo too. Thank you Baron
• Zack Ryder is in this and Woo Woo Woo! That’s sad for his career. I mean I know people like Tyson Kidd re-energized his career in NXT but Ryder has never evolved from who he was in 2012
• Breeze is getting all the cheers from the crowd. He is who the NXT crowd wants to win.
• Zack Ryder gets thrown out and we hear “Let’s Go Tyler” Corbin throws Rhyno over the top and I’m sure Rhyno will respect that and want to do that again.
• We are back from another commercial and we got Blake, Murphy, Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin, Samoa Joe and Tyler Breeze
• Ciampa was thrown over the top during commercial, Blake and Murphy get eliminated simultaneously by Samoa Joe as the crowd goes “Breeze, Breeze”
• Joe eliminates Breeze and boo’s fill the arena. Does this happen in every Battle Royal now?
• Corbin got out of the Muscle Buster, Corbin tried eliminating Joe but Joe held on until Breeze took Joe out to “Thank You Tyler” chants? Why are we all against Joe all of a sudden?
• “Apollo” chants, I kinda feel like Corbin is winning cause Apollo doesn’t need the win to still look like he belongs.
• Baron Corbin will beat the Demon if Hideo Itami cannot. NXT crowd is chanting “We Want Tyler” and they became the evil fans I talked about on my Raw review .
• Apollo got all 5 moves of doom in until the Standing Moonsault that Corbin reversed. Apollo still lands like 4 kicks and clotheslines Corbin over the top.

And I’m Like… Whhhhaaaatt? That is surprising, this kid is getting pushed to the moon, Alice. I am not too satisfied if only for the fact that I’ve yet to become an Apollo Crews fan. I am so indifferent towards him, I’m not inclined to cheer or boo. Hopefully these next few weeks will build up some emotion for me.

I had to catch up on my family sitcoms (Blackish, The Middle, Fresh Off The Boat), late night shows (Nightly show, Seth Meyers, Colbert), and Morning Joe. So I'm at work and watching NXT throughout the workday.

I had a few wrestling fans as customers today. Always wear your wrestling shirts when going out in public, there is no other way to know who can talk to who about wrestling. I got to talk about ROH, Mania coming to town, Jerry Lynn, if Demilition derserves the Hall of Fame, and what Philadelphia was like to vacation to for wrestling.

NXT opening video and match

Eva Marie vs. Carmella

I'm not looking forward to this. Both girls are gaining the talent needed, but they also need someone to carry the match for them still.

Carmella's character is defined, she is a Staton Island Haie Stylist. The problem is she only shows one emotion, energetic happiness. Eva is just Eva, she is incapable of emotion I believe. That probably means she is the second coming of Nikki Bella, so the next decade will have some rough spots in women's wrestling.

The girls were doing surprisingly well until signals were crossed during a suplex reversal. Eva tried doing heel spots, taunting opponent and crowd, deprecating moves. It seems like she is just remembering when to do them instead of naturally and organically doing it. I can't tell ya how to do it, I have no idea. I can just tell you the vibe it gives me. This vibe feels unauthentic.

Carmella astonishingly has her moveset of doom. Corner head scissors, Running Thez Press x2, Staten Island Shuffle

into corner spear, Carmella puts her boot on the top turnbuckle and rams Eva's head into the boot. She goes for the pin and gets two. Eva made it seem like she didn't kick out, but the ref saw Eva's foot on the rope.

Eva throws Carmella out the ring and that's enough to get the W.

And I'm Like… They used her actual screw up and made it cannon, that is smart. Except the crowd boo's cause they know it wasn't on purpose the first time. It's similar to a babyface song bad things. That babyface will get boo'd by smart fans cause they know �that's not how it's posed to be!!!' Once that babyface switches to heel and does the same thing they are beloved cause �they are good at their job'.

Another Nia Jax promo video. It's the same one we saw, when is soon? Probably at Takeover:Respect.

We see a video of the CeleBAYtion. Bayley talks about wanting people to appreciate women's wrestling.

They show Sasha and her remarks last week that had my cousin saying "Sasha says her match was the best women's match in WWE history, like it was good but who really says it's good?" You can tell my cousin doesn't use the internets. I guess we need videos of WWE super starts saying how great the match was.

Bull Dempsey vs. Tyler Breeze

Bull looks genuinely happy that he is getting cheers!

In the last match these two had, Breeze ran around the ring until Bull was gassed, Tyler hit the Beauty Shot for the win. This time around Tyler is made the fool by Bulls new found confidence.

Bull shows this feat of agility and asks for crowd support.

Byron says that Bullfit is better than Sweating to the Oldies . Bull gets thrown right on to the ramp, the same ramp that incapacitated Carmella earlier.

Breeze holds court with a reverse chin lock on Bull, to take the air out of Dempsey. Breeze only knows one way to beat bull and that’s air restriction.

HOLY SHIT THE REF IS WHILE BOTH MEN ARE DOWN!

Bull is Bullfitting himself for a victory. By Bullfitting I mean he is hulking up. By hulking up I mean he is no-selling or acting as if he is impervious to pain. Bull goes for his moveset of doom, once the crowd catches on to all of Bull’s moves and quirks he will be a very solid hand on the show.

Bull goes for a top rope senton but Breeze counters it twice. Tyler pins Bull with Breeze’s foot on the rope for the win.

And I’m Like… That match was alright to watch, they didn’t progress the in-match story like I thought they would. With Breeze winning, Bull looked broken hearted.. I am not sure where we go from here because Tyler Breeze is scheduled to face Apollo Crews soon.

Asuka is up next, all I know is that her name is not phonetically spelled.

There is a commercial for the NXT:Breaking Ground show, I feel like I will cry alot during that show. The reason being, is NXT resonates with me because it’s people at the very cusp of achieving their dreams. They can’t coast on their skills yet cause they aren’t on the main show, they have such a deep roster pool that spots have to be fought for not given to. It is a show where hard work pays off, it does not insult the audiences attention, and it plays the emotional chords to make beautiful moments. NXT is where dreams go to become realities, and being able to see the pure emotion on these athletes makes regret not deciding that wrestling is my everything sooner. These people made and are making sacrifices I’m not ready to make yet. I’ve never wanted to be a wrestler, a manager or ref maybe, but really I just want to be involved. I believe that wrestling is the best art and sport in the world. It should be the number one form of entertainment for everybody. WWE should not stop until that is reached, you can tell every story that needs to be told in a wrestling universe. I want to be apart of creating that, and seeing these NXT superstars, living the struggle and the dream will move me at my core. That’s why the NXT Womans division means so much to me emotionally, they are proving that heart and determination will get you the respect and admiration. They prove that no matter what your dream is, you can achieve it.

THAT WAS A RANT… wow.. but I had to get it out, Breaking Ground should be an amazing show.

Asuka contract signing

William Regal introduces Asuka as the greatest competitor that NXT has ever signed… whoa..

I’ll call her a ragin’ fire cause she looks stoked. First thing she says is “Yeeeeeahhhhh!!!” “I’m happy to be in NXT YEAAAAHHHH!!” “Dream come true” ugh Asuka, already getting me in the feels. “I want NXT Womans Championship”

She is so happy to have just signed the NXT contract.

Emma and Dana Brooke come out and Regal calls them rude! They say they run NXT. Dana says “things will be OV-ER before they get Star-Ted, playtime is O-VER” Emma tells Asuka to leave the ring. Which she begrudgingly does. She feigns going back to the ring, but ends up leaving with a sinister smile on her face that has Emma and Dana shaking in their boots.

And I’m Like… WTF!! I’m already emotionally invested in a character I have never seen in my life, that is talent all around!!! I’m very excited for the weeks to come!

Kyle Edwards walks us through the goings ons in the Dusty Classic.

Dash and Dawson beat the current Tag Champs in the Vaudevillians to advance. That is a shocker..

Hype Bros. say they are up against Gable and Jordan next week, saying Gable and Jordan are the guys that get no chicks.. I hate these guys, they are the jock douches that have no idea what women are or how to truly treat one with respect. Mojo..No.

Vaudevillians (c) vs. Blake and Murphy

I see that the Villains are in their blue gear from Takeover:Brooklyn. They don’t have Blue Pants though. The whole storyline was they couldn’t beat Blake and Murphy when Bliss was around. HOLY CRAP I just thought of Alexa Blake and Murphys initials A BM… thats poop humor y’all.

Ok, Blue Pants showed up, and the Discount Diva took Bliss to the back so this match will be fair and square.

It’s crazy how pasty Aiden English is, maybe even whiter than Sheamus? Good thing Mattel already has the Sheamus skin color made up! Aiden and Gotch are crazy talented though. They totally get how this all works, I don’t even know how to comprehend how good wrestling is presented, but I can call a spade a spade. English and Gotch are tremendous talents in every aspect of what is being presented.

Byron is pointing out how Blake and Murphy, since losing their titles, have also lost the bonus money you get with being champion. They were used to that income and want to get it back. Corey Graves says it’s not about that at all, they just want to avenge Alexa for what happened to her. Wow, Byron your on point, and SHUT…Up… Graves.

This match is alot of rest holds when Blake and Murphy are on offense. The Villains get the upper hand when Gotch hits his signature kicks. They go for that rolling firemans carry into a swanton splash finisher, but it gets reversed.

No worries though, the Villains hit the Whirling Dervish for the win.

And I’m Like… That match needed to happen cause ‘rematch clause’. I hope that this feud is over, Blake and Murphy need something to sink their teeth into character wise. What are they other than millennials? Lot’s to look forward to next week, being the go home show before Takeover: Respect.

We just hired my niece at the restaurant so my wife can get ready for maternity leave. Being a business owner is hard, shits just not paid for if you want to still pay your home bills. Well my niece is training to become a fitness model, and I told her its her responsibility to show up next week and the week after to get ready for Bayley vs. Sasha, these two need to be seen by as many people as possible. They can convert any non-believers that woman’s wrestling is just wrestling. These girls are good, but they aren’t just good for being girls, they are good for being wrestlers.

Hideo Itami is on his way. Who will he he be kicking into oblivion on this last Wednesday of February? BULL! BULL! BULL! Bell rings. Bull gets the early advantage, using his size advantage to negate Hideo's speed and legs. Eventually Hideo gets rolling. Hits his flurry of kicks, chops, backhands, and other fast paced strikes. Hangtime dropkick in the corner. Drags the big guy up, whips him off the ropes and hits his running kick finisher. Win for Hideo. He celebrates. Heads up the ramp and BAM! Gets leveled by a muppet appendage… oh… wait… that's Tyler Breeze's selfie stick! Itami is down. Breeze tries to take a selfie with the selfe stick of himself and the downed Itami, but can't get the angle right, and by the time he does? Guess who's now on his feet photo bombing? Itami. He whoops Breeze. Crowd chants GTS, but Breeze flees the scene.

ANNOUNCERS!

Rich and Graves, joined by Alex Riley this week welcome us. They let us know we have Bayley vs. Becky Lynch tonight as well as Finn Balor vs. THE Brian Kendrick. Those should both be fun.

HYPE!

Announcers send us into a hype package of Kendrick. Really good stuff making Kendrick look like a million bucks and reminding the world of his WWE exploits.

Lucha Dragons are on their way out. Their opponents are Jason Jordan and Tie Dillenger. Jordan and Dillenger's entrance is "hacked" by Solomon Crowe who says he won't rest until he's the NXT Champion. Then he hits his tablet and that "unhacks" us back to the ring. Dillenger and Jordan get a little offense early, but the Dragons turn the tide. Start to dominate. Jordan gets annoyed with this. Dillenger at one point looks to his partner and yells "RELAX". So when Dillenger finally is able to get over there to make the tag? Jordan is like "I'm out". He bails. One SdS and swanton later? Dillenger loses. Lucha had some nice double team work in this. The story was about the break up. We go to commercial… I don't recap commercials unless they're AWESOME… and this was for Total Divas… so? You do the math.

BACKSTAGE!

Mic Stand is there to ask Finn Balor a question. Asks him how he's preparing for Kevin Owens. Balor is like, "Bruh… I got a match with THE Brian Kendrick tonight, a former WWE Tag Team Champion… I'm all �bout THAT action tonight, boss." Not an exact transcription . Dig that. Simple story telling AND love selling an opponent. Thumbs up, NXT. Thumbs UP!

IN RING!

Dillenger is STILL there? Oh, buddy… this can't end well for you. He says he isn't leaving until his tag team partner answers for his cowardly treacherous behavior! He doesn't care WHO is coming out, he'll fight him. Cue. Motorcycle. And Baron Corbin. Dillenger drops a mental "F-Bomb" and Corbin's entrance takes more time than the match. Dillenger did manage to lock in a solid side headlock. End of Days shortly after. Sounded like the Crowd got into the twenties before the ref hit the mat a third time!

Lady Mic Stand asks Charlotte about her NXT Women's Championship match NEXT week. Charlotte reminds us all that Banks has never beat her one on one and that the championship will be in the right place next week.

BAYLEY IS HERE! Becky Lynch is out next. Huge Bayley chants as the bell rings, and already this match is longer than Raw's Diva's match. 8 dudes chant Becky Lynch and get booed down. Lateral press with a nice bridge out by Becky. Becky dominates early. Hits what Rich calls a pump handle suplex. Her series of three leg drops. Bayley turns the tide. Hits her leaping through the bottom corner drop kick she did at "Rival". Needs to work on that one a little more. Though I'm all about the effort. Side mounted right hands from Bayley. High velocity shoulder driven to Becky's gut. Three jumping back elbows. Bayley starts to hoist Becky for the top rope bayley to belly, but Becky targets the shoulder. Bayley goes for the Bayley to Belly, but Becky blocks Yeah Alliteration! – locks in a nasty arm bar and makes it worse by mounting the shoulder and REALLY wrenching back. Bayley taps. Becky wins. Becky points at the crowd and lets them know "In YOUR Face… In YOUR Face… In YOUR FACE!" She celebrates we cut away.

Backstage!

Rhyno with Lady Mic Stand. Why are people shocked to see Rhyno in NXT? He tuned in, and he saw intensity and fire of NXT. The same intensity and fire he's always had! So he's gonna make it to the top by cutting people in half with a GORE! GORE! GORE!

Jason Jordan is chased down. Asked about leaving Dillenger high and dry, but says he'll give us an explanation when he's good and ready.

IN RING!

Main Event time, y'all! Kevin Owens is a guest on Commentary. THE Brian Kendrick is out first. Crowd gives him a "welcome back". He takes a lap congratulating himself for his return. Balor is out next. Balor stink eyes Owens when he comes out. Owens' opinion of Finn "extremely talented in ring competitor, but like Zayn and Neville – he will fall." Quick start. Kendrick tweaks his ankle flipping into the ring. Balor gives him space. Owens says that's a mistake. The match takes it to the ground. Speed picks up and Balor hits a nice dropkick. The story here is actually between Riley and Owens have a few terse exchanges. Riley staying on Owens about his treatment of Zayn and Owens saying that is why Riley was never a champion. This is brilliantly uncomfortable. Graves and Rich drive this home nicely. Owens decides to cut his guest announcing duties short. Back in the ring with the announcers back into things. Nasty chop by Balor. Taking him corner to corner to corner to corner… but doesn't chop in the final corner and the crowd groans with disappointment. Kendrick catches Finn with a boot and a leaping off the middle rope DDT. Missile Dropkick and… oh sweet mercy… NASTY tiger suplex. That was scary. Kendrick going for "THE Kendrick", but Balor hits a diving clothesline. Follows up with the Sling Blade. High velocity dropkick into the corner. Double STOMP. Coup de Grace. Seals it. Nice little return match for Kendrick. Finn celebrates. Crowd chants Finn. Owens stands at the top of the ramp. Stare. Down. O' … DOOOOOOOOOM! Owens then walks over to Riley… RUN ALEX… RUN!

He didn't listen to me. Owens just threw Riley over the table. Balor is like "Dude, whats up wit dat?" Owens walks off. And… scene.

OVERVIEW!

So I'm thinking this was first step to Riley getting back into the ring. Be interested to see if they go slower burn for this or if Riley attacks, or demands a match… OR? Gonna need a MONTAGE! Sports Training Montage! Solid story work this week. With Breeze and Itami continuing. Tag Team breaking up. Starting with Balor and Owens AND beginning whatever the deal with Riley and Owens might be.

It was a solid week. Nothing spectacular in ring wise. Bayley and Becky to me was probably the best bell to bell match. Kendrick and Balor was decent, but unspectacular. Fell a little flat for me considering who was involved. I think all the story telling there distracts from the in ring action. It was a good episode for furthering or kicking off storylines.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girl… WRESTLING Fans of All Ages… well the literate ones at least. Welcome to another Whizz-Bang Edition of the NXT Recap slash Review slash Something. This a SPECIAL edition as this week's NXT was a SPECIAL TWO HOUR TAKEOVER: RIVAL. Five matches were officially announced with a sixth being added via twitter and then the pre show. So that's a whole lot of recappening (it is TOO a word!)

Good hype video. Paying special attention to Balor vs. Neville, Women's Fourway, and Zayn vs. Owens. Foreshadowing on which three matches would be my top three for this show.

IN RING!

Itami's music hits, as the twitter slash WWE.com match against Tyler Breeze.

ANNOUNCE TABLE! Rich, Corey and Albert welcome us to the show. They put over the action which is something they excel at doing. Throw to the replay of Breeze attacking Itami. "YOU BLEW IT… YOU RUINED IT. YOU RUIN EVERYTHING." – That is a hissy fit line that always makes me giggle.

BACK IN RING!

Breeze is out with a selfie stick. A "fan" then jumps the barricade and she jumps onto Tyler. Security takes the lady fan away. That is a quality selfie stick.. At least 3 muppets gave their lives to cover that selfie stick in their pelts. Bell rings. Itami is on the quick offensive. Itami gets the momentum with a nice knee to the midsection and then a vicious kick to Tyler's chest. Educated feet and going for the drop kick to a seated Breeze in the corner, but Breeze smartly gets outta dodge. Breeze gets on the offensive focusing on the bum knee of Itami. Wraps it around the ring post a few times, and… RING POST FIGURE FOUR! NICE! Breeze with a nice cloverleaf styled submission. Breeze hits the Super Model Kick for a TWO PLUS! Breeze can't believe it and the crowd gets loud for this. Tyler starts throwing hard rights, but Itami is like �NUH UH', and gets all hulked. Quick flurry of strikes: palms, forearms, kicks galore. Breeze in the corner. Stalling dropkick… RUNNING KICK TO THE HEAD! That's all they wrote. Solid opener. Breeze impressed me. I wonder what they'll do with Itami moving forward?

BACKSTAGE!

Referee and Regal are discussing something with Owens. He seems unimpressed with their talking and goes back to his phone, cuz that Candy ain't gonna Crush itself!

IN RING!

BULL! BULL! BULL! Out comes Bull Dempsey, who judging from my friend who doesn't watch NXT religiously, but pointed out that Dempsey's look teeters between "80s throwback" and "slob". Engines rev. Corbin is out and B-Lines it for Bull. Baron sporting his new t-shirt. Brawling all over the floor. Bull tries to flee. Baron chases. Bull turns the tide with a push into the apron and suplex onto the ramp. Crowd wants tables. Bull teases it but is all like, "PSYCH!" Full Sail not happy with that. More brawling. Stomps. Fists. Smashes. Bludgeons. And various What-Nottery. Huge Arn Anderson styled spine buster and Baron nearly gets the win. Graves says Dempsey was 10 feet in the air… uh… really Core? Corbin goes for a running clothesline to send Dempsey over the top rope. Corbin goes, but Dempsey doesn't… until like 4 seconds later than he should have. Oops-town Population: YOU, Bull. Dempsey hits the diving headbutt for a TWO PLUS! Stays on the attack. goes for a chair. Slides in. Charges. Corbin snatches him. End of Days. Ballgame. This was pretty average. A few botches. Didn't really find a groove. Didn't really make use of the NO DQ Stip. Post match Corbin sets up the chair and takes a seat and catches his breath and dismissively shoves Bull away with his boot. This was hindered by the fact this was their third match, in my opinion. And it was longer than the other two combined. I think Bull should've been using that No DQ stip to its FULLEST potential.

Becky Lynch is doing pushups on the steps. Bayley is looking nervous and that works its way into a confident nod.

LU! CHA! LU! CHA! LU! CHA! Sin Cara and Kalisto are out. They have a new camera set up next to the apron so we get a neat view of them trampolining into the ring. That was nifty. Next out are our tag champs. Who's music I find dreadful. Text from a buddy pointed out their tights were VERY American Wolves-y. Bell Rings. Cara and Murphy to start (Thank the wrestling gods they have their names on their tights tonight, so your humble writer can tell them apart with certainty.) – Uh oh botches are contagious early in this one. Not sure what happened. Arm drag gone awry? Crowd noticeably flat for this… and these people usually cheer and chant EVERYTHING. See:

Oh man another bit of sloppiness. Kalisto slips while running to the ring looking to do something. Cara gets the TWO PLUS with the victory roll from the top… SUPER VICTORY ROLL? Name will be a work in process. Double team pop up neck breaker is a nice move from Murphy and Blake. A kick gets Sin Cara free, and Kalisto in. Corkscrew cross body. Kalisto kick. The hurracanrana on a kneeling murphy was NICE. Kalisto has the SDS countered, A bunch of near falls. Trading two counts. Inventive double bridge where both guys had their shoulders down. Two Pluses all over the place…

YOU GET A TWO COUNT! YOU GET A TWO COUNT! YOU GET A TWO COUNT!

Cara hits the hoist one arm power bomb. Murphy hits a running suplex almost brain buster, and Blake hits a frog splash. Three Count. and STILL Our NXT Tag Team Champions! First half the match had some sloppiness and it took a while to find a rhythm. Last 5-7 minutes were pretty enjoyable. Lots of chain wrestling. During the celebration someone is coming next week. His hype video interrupts and looks like the last few where I've seen the names "Solomon" and "Crowe" at different times. Hint. and HINT!

HYPE! NXT #1 Contendership tournament is recapped and our next matchup is hyped.

IN RING!

Neville is out first because… well we all know why. Lights out, and Balor is crawling his way to the ring. Paint job is slightly different. A tongue sticking out of the mouth on his chest. Added what appears to be wings and a tail to his back. Add some smoke in the corner to his entrance. Its go time. I can't wait for this. Crowd chants Finn. Neville puts his mouthpiece in. Fast start with some chain wrestling. Crisp. Clean. These two might be the best combination of pure athlete AND wrestling ability. Neville's athleticism almost gets lost in the shuffle with all the talent in NXT. A couple early ONE! counts. Neville scores a spring board dropkick then lock in the… ahem… REVERSE CHIN LOCK… O'… DOOOOOOOOOM!!! To jump back, good work by the announce crew to explain Balor's entrance. The not only psychological warfare on his opponent but to psych himself up. They should also put the layer of "currying favor" with the crowd. Take notes, Cole and Company when you're talking about Bray Wyatt's "Creepy" entrance. Neville dominates for a spell. Balor tries to turn the tide with a chop so hard it welted MY chest. Neville keeps on it though with a dropkick and stalling vertical suplex. Neville nails some 12 to 6 elbows to Balor's head, and somewhere a UFC official is screeching "STOP THE FIGHT!" Back to the RCLO'D! Balor fights out. Whip. Balor eats a boot, Neville goes to the top rope and Finn nails an enziguri. Neville to the outside. Balor nails a huge Tope. Crowd chants NXT. Neville is on the move! Finn is stalking, and then drop kicks him into/through a ringside barricade. Crowd goes with a expletive laced chant of surprise. Back in the ring. Balor with a double stomp to the back of the HEAD?!?! WHAT?! I was SURE that was it. That was a THREE MINUS! WOW. That was an amazing move. First this is awesome chant. Neville nails a forearm and a bunch of kicks. Balor with the Pele! And Neville with a desperation Superkick! (Picks up jaw off floor) Germans from Neville. One of them stalled was amazing and into a bridge! THREE MINUS!!! Neville to the middle rope… ARE YOU KIDDING?! Was that a Phoenix Splash from the middle rope?! Done flawlessly. Dude is a mutant of athletic ability. High velocity European Uppercut. Balor with a desperation Sling Blade! HUGE Clothesline turns Neville inside out. Lifting to vertical reverse DDT! My fingers can't keep up with this. Balor going to the top, but Neville grabs the leg to avoid the double stomp. He hits a kick. Then a slam. Looking for the Red Arrow, but Balor lifts the knees, AND then turns it into a roll up, and they got me AGAIN! I was sure this was done. High velocity dropkick shots Neville into the corner violently. COUP DE GRAICE! Rich asks "Have you ever seen anything like it?!" Hyperbole, sure, but that was a DAMN AMAZING match. Standing Ovation rightly deserved, fellas. *Writers Note: It was my third time watching this match 3 times when I wrote this.

Its scary the guy was NXT Champion for how long, is one of the guys they use on the road for Raw/Smackdown, but Neville still is somehow underrated. Also can we get two outta three falls for these two?

Charlotte and Sasha are getting ready! Goes right into the video package for the Women's Championship Match.

IN RING!

Bayley is out first. Banks is second. Becky third. And in the sake of alliteration: Bram's wife third. Lets go! We hit the ground running. Bayley with a roll up on Charlotte. Team BAE team up early. They break the LED board by throwing Charlotte into it. Then they go at Bayley. Nice double team moves from BAE as they violently throw Bayley into the turnbuckles. That was unique. Both of them make the cover on Bayley. Alliance dissolved. Becky with a nice pump handle suplex. Now Becky is in control. She works on Bayley with a dragon screw leg whip and then a nice submission, but Banks is back to break it up. Banks with a nice series of shoulders into the corner. High velocity as she channels her inner Lesnar. Charlotte back in and attacking. Ends up hitting a neck breaker for a two plus. Then hits Banks with a leg drape neck breaker in the corner. Now Charlotte and Banks exchanging violent forearms. Charlotte goes for a spear, but Banks moves. Charlotte spears Becky. Bayley back in and wheel barrows Banks, and Bayley comes in and hits a codebreaker of sorts. Charlotte big boots Bayley out of the ring.Banks ends up back in control. Double knee drops in the corner to both Charlotte, who was across the middle ropes, and Becky who was on the bottom ropes. Bayley is back with a suplex! Bayley hits a series of three running reverse elbows into the corner. She hoists Charlotte to the top rope. Top Rope �Rana! Crowd firmly behind Bayley. Bayley to Belly! Lynch breaks it up. Bayley with a nice baseball drop kick from the floor up under the bottom rope. Nifty. BANKS SUICIDE DIVE! Three are down. Charlotte in ring. "WOMEN'S WRESTLING" chant melts into "THIS IS WRESTLING", and Charlotte sling shot over the top to the outside onto the other three! Charlotte throws Becky into the ring. But Becky nails a running knee lift and a T-Bone Suplex. Man the shots in this are so high velocity and landing. Chaos in the corner. Charlotte on the top. Bayley German's Lynch. Then TOP ROPE BAYLEY TO BELL! ONE TWO… BANKS! Banks throws Bayley out violently. Gets a three minus. Then locks in a nasty cross face. Really pulls back. Becky starts to get in, but Banks kicks Becky INTO Bayley. Back to the cross face. Stretching her. Keeps pulling back. Charlotte is not tapping, but is fading. Banks pulls back even harder and then turns it into a roll up! THREE SLAP OF THE MAT LATER…

AND… NNNNNNEEEEEEEWWWWWWWW!! NXT WOMEN'S CHAMPION!!!!

This was spectacular. Awesome story, and action bell to bell. These ladies got put in the "spot of death" between the two huge main events and OWNED it. The velocity of moves and the WRESTLING was as good as anything we see on a weekly basis, ladies, or gents. Women's MotY can be handed out, as who knows if anything will approach this on the main roster, and I could absolutely see this being on many a top ten list at year's end. MIGHT be the best Women's match I've ever seen… but that might be me being to wrapped up in the immediacy.

Zayn and Owens video package is where the awesome in ring product meets the awesome WWE Production values and things like this is where we get the melding of these worlds.

IN RING!

We see Owens backstage as the "drop the cage" music kind of plays before he storms through the curtain and heads out. Same thing for Zayn. This is a neat twist. Zayn sporting nifty new tights. Crowd really into the "LETS GO!" Part of Zayn's theme. Owens is ready rocking in the corner… random thing I noticed yesterday, his armpits looks like Abdullah the Butcher's forehead. What the hell is going on there? Stare down. Owens standing and leaning in the corner. Sami crouching. Big Fight announcement. "FIGHT OWENS FIGHT" followed by boos and then "SAMI" chant. They stare. Crowd "OLE's". They circle, Sami advances. Owens bails. This continues. More stalling, but eventually, Sami flies over the ref and nails a somersault onto Owens on the outside. Zayn punching and kicking. Mounted punches into the corner. Owens hoists and drops him across the top turnbuckle. A couple NASTY running clotheslines into the corner where Zayn does his best Shawn Michaels. The whip into the corner was a looney tunes sell. Owens goes on the grind offensive. Wearing down Zayn. Punishing with holds and slams. Driving his knee into his back. Owens continues to punish making occasional covers and yelling at the referee. Zayn tries to fire back with fists to the gut, starts to get some momentum, but Owens drops him gut first onto the top rope which sling shots him back into the ring, Zayn crashing onto his face/upper body. Owens locks in the Reverse Chin Lock O' DOOOOOOM! Match totally at Owens' pace. Back suplex gets a two count. On the outside its violent. Owens is dominating. Crowd starts up a "Kill Owens Kill" chant. Back in the ring. Two PLUS on Sami. Zayn looks "woozy". VIOLENT forearms and stomps into Zayn. This is a methodical dissection. Gut buster, and senton. TWO PLUS!

Forearms and Sami with a slap! Now Sami fires up with three clotheslines! Owens spills to the outside. Owens takes a bite out of the ring steps. Now Sami is brawling. He's throwing haymakers. Owens tries to rolls Sami in, but Sami rolls right back out to the other side, runs around and NAILS a clothesline. Back inside. Blue Thunder Bomb! TWO.. PLUS PLUS! each man in a corner.. Sami charges… OUCH! SUPERKICK. Sami is out on his feet! Collapses into the corner. Running CANNONBALL! THREE MINUS! Owens pump handles Sami and drops him neck first onto his knee! Whoa. THREE MINUS.. MINUS!!! Whip going for a pop up power bomb. Zayn dropkicks out of it. Half and Half by Zayn. TWO PLUS! Zayn doesn't believe it. Zayn gets dropped throat first across the top rope. Owens up top… Zayn meets him in the high rent district. They exchange up top. Owens gets the upper hand. SWANTON-NO! KNEES UP! Exploder into the corner. Sami looking for the Heluva… Owens gets outta dodge. Sami chases. Outside Owens looks for the powerbomb into the ring apron, but Sami grabs the ropes, and stops it. Sami kicks and then hits that seated spring board moonsault to the outside, but his head hit the ramp. He's woozy. Sami staggers and stumbles back in the ring. Tries to come out of the corner, but stumbles and falls feeling the effects. Charges again, pop up powerbomb nearly ends it for Owens. Ref checking on Sami. Owens goes in with nasty forearms. European uppercuts.. Rabbit punches. Basically just wailing away on Zayn. Ref trying to get Owens off. Trainers are out to check on Sami. A few smart asses chant "Z-Pac" at this. Powerbomb number TWO. AND THREE! Owens with the cocky cover. Two Zayn fans are near tears. Trainers are still checking on him. They're in ring now. Owens decides he has his OWN medical advice… three MORE Powerbombs. Oh, nope ref stops him at the third one, and calls the match. Crowd starts a bullshit chant. Stunned. Some confusion, but the crowd roars when Owens is handed the NXT Championship. Owens wins due to Ref Stoppage. A fewf and are inconsolable. Owens is bouncing between laughing and crying. He points at someone in the audience. Announcers do a great job laying out. Selling the shocked nature of this. Clearly they LOVE Owens. He celebrates, and eventually stands over the prone Zayn. Very good match, that was intense and super story based, and REALLY puts Kevin Owens over in a big way and shows how much fight Zayn has. This felt like a first chapter to what could and should be an amazing saga. Sprinkle in Balor's #1 contendership and there is a lot they can do moving forward.

OVERVIEW!

ANOTHER excellent outing for the NXT Brand and their quarterly Takeovers. Top to bottom not as good as R Evolution, in my opinion, which is understandable, seeing as that show was about as perfect a wrestling show I've seen. There was one very average match: Bull and Baron. Two decent to good matches: Breeze/Itami, and Tag Titles. And three awesome matches that were unique and fun and told good stories and had amazing in ring action. And now we set off down the road to the NEXT Takeover. If you have wrestling fan friends who don't subscribe to the Network? You should invite them over and start doing NXT Viewing Parties. If they DO have the Network and DON'T watch NXT? Man… I don't know… rig them up to that contraption from Clockwork Orange, maybe?

Bottom line, if you're not, or they're not watching? You and they should be.

Admittedly I have no experience handicapping, and from a betting standpoint I have little… actually… err… no… I have NO experience in any form of sports betting. Disclaimer: The Over/Under is an entertainment slash hype slash super terrific fun time article. The author does not look up any possible "Lines" for wrestling matches, and suggests you not bet on a scripted contest. Though if you're at a party and your friend has had too many adult beverages and Raw is taped and you read spoilers and want to make five bucks at said friend's expense because someone upsets Kane in a match? FEEL FREE! (Hayes fact 814: Did that a party. Gonna totally send the link to this to said buddy.)

Overview: For the last few months these two have been all up in each other's bidness. What started out as a contest to see who could mash a random sack of potatoes faster? With Baron mashing so hard that it led to Bull's jealousy. Which led to a match. Which Baron won. Which led to a second match. Which Baron won. Which led to Bull costing Baron in his #1 Contendership Match. And now? These two "Hosses" will battle it out in a NO DQ Match. Their first two contests didn't last a combined 5 minutes. Baron dominated.

Favorite: Corbin -450 He's a huge favorite. He just lost and it was Bull that cost him. Violent revenge for NXT's Lone Wolf.

Underdog: Dempsey +300 Big Dog. Only way I see this win is if they really REALLY want to try hard to swerve us.

Prop Bet of the Match:
Over/Under 7 minutes. (That's bell to bell. No entrances included, or post match shenanigans included.)

Overview: This is easily the match I'm least looking forward to. I'm probably not alone, but there isn't a ton of investment in it for me. The story falls a little flat, but lets take a look at that story. The Lucha Dragons beat the Ascension and then… well… "Meh". They have a nice move set. A decent amount of support from the crowd, but something has felt flat with their reign. They dispatched the Vaudevillains easily. Were rolling, albeit, unspectacularly. Buddy and Blake appeared to fill a need as Tag Team on the Roster. Their win/loss record drove that point home. Then? They beat the Vaudevillains. THEN? They challenged the Lucha Dragons, cuz if you beat, basically the only OTHER full time tag team that isn't the champs? Boom. Title shot. AND.. THEN?!?!

AND… NNNNNEEEEEWWWWWWWWW… NXT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!!!!! They shocked the world. Okay, the portion of the world who A) Follow Pro Wrestling 2) Know that there is an WWE Network iii) WATCH NXT FOURTH) or at LEAST read spoilers slash results. (I hear the results guy HERE kicks 14 kinds of ass… Just sayin'.)

Favorite: Murphy and Blake -120. A slight favorite. They just scored the upset win. I wonder if they want to bolster the Main Roster's tag ranks, and so I wonder if the Dragons are a way to add another team to the tag division. Especiallly with two teams recently having or in the process of splitting (Miz/Mizdow, and Dust Bros).

Underdog: Lucha Dragons +110. Its not a huge instance of her being an Underdog. I won't be surprised if they walk out of Rival two time tag champions. I will be interested to see how this plays out and hopefully coming out of Rival we'll see a little more shine/interest in the tag division.

Prop Bet of the Match:
Will the NXT Crowd Chant "AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE… Oi Oi Oi"! (due to Murphy's Nationality) Yes -400 No +400.

Overview: Charlotte has been dominating the Women's division. She beat Bayley. Sasha Banks on the rise, and along with Team BAE (Best At Everything, for anyone unaware) bestie, Becky Lynch took out Bayley. Then Banks set off on a series of awesome Women's title matches. The stories did a nice job staying intertwined. Banks got one more shot, Lynch ended up jumping in and attacking Charlotte. <— Insert DQ Bell Ringing here. Bayley rushes to the ring to make the save. When Bayley takes too long gazing at the title lustily. Charlotte is like "HAND OFF". Bayley hits the Bayley to Bell! Regal makes the women's title match a fatal four way. They did a tag match the next week Of COURSE, chaos ensued. I'm really looking forward to this, and we could be seeing the Women's match of the year at Rival. Favorite: Charlotte -200. She's a dominant champion. Unless they're thinking "Call Up" for her, and really she is plenty ready, though I'd be sad to see her talents leave and be shuffled off into 3 minute matches centered around the cast of Total Divas? Eventually they grow up and leave the nest.

Even Money: I'm putting both Bayley and Sasha Banks here. Both have great stories and momentum behind them. This is a great match for someone (i.e. Charlotte) to lose and not get pinned and still lose the Championship. Bayley the plucky underdog/Little Engine that Could, with the most funnest entrance in the bidness! Banks, someone who is an amazing talent. Who has improved so much its mind boggling. She's a heel who is getting a "you deserve it" vibe from the crowd in her past title matches.

Underdog: Becky Lynch +600. Easily makes the least sense. Treading water as a face and then being paired with Banks almost as added muscle. Its not Lynch's time… YET.

Prop Bet of the Match:
Who takes the Tower of Doom Spot? Bayley -300. Banks -150. There is none even money. Lynch +100. Charlotte +200.

Overview: Back when we kicked off this trip toward Rival, Commissioner Regal announced a Number One Contendership Tournament. Balor beat Curtis Axel in the first round and Hideo Itami in the second round, which was a spectacularly physical encounter and almost made my prediction that "Itami hits his FIRST GTS on Balor" come true. I STILL think the first has Balor's name written all over it. Neville beat Tyson Kidd in the first round, another fantastic match, and took down the undefeated Baron Corbin in the Semi's sing it: "He got by with a little help from the Bull". So this sets up between two well traveled world class wrestlers. Both are super popular with the crowd. Neville a former NXT Champion and Balor a future NXT Champion… that is unless the WWE doesn't come calling. This has Match of the Year Contender written all over it. Don't blink. Sit back. And bathe in the excellence this contest can, and hopefully WILL, produce.

Favorite: Finn Balor -250. Crowd is behind him. Momentum is on his side. He's been awesome, and continues to entertain. A win here would be excellent as he continues rocketing up the NXT Ranks.

Underdog: Adrian Neville +100. Won't be shocked if he wins, but he certainly doesn't need a victory. Long rumored to be one of the next in line to get the call. Makes sense to elevate Balor if that rumor is true.

Overview: OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG… breathe Hayes… BREATHE. Inhales… Exhales… I assumed we would see this. Didn't think it'd be THIS fast, and for the NXT Championship already. Sami Zayn had a long trip to the summit. At NXT R-Evolution he beat Adrian Neville in a fantastic match. The crowd, the story, the finish, the celebration. It was excellent. He and Owens hugged. He and Neville Hugged. This was all the feels we can feel watching this crazy form of entertainment! Then it lingered… and lingered… but they showed the closing graphic, and THEN Owens decided… "I'm happy for you, but I'm no THAT happy for you." Nasty pull down onto the ramp. Nastier power bomb onto the apron and the man who had debuted 114 minutes earlier just made a massive statement. Like he said in his hype videos. He was in NXT to fight, to better his and his family's life, AND its not lost on him that so many guys who he wrestled with and against across the globe got the call from WWE before he did. No wrestler was safe. No Friend. No CHAMPION. Sami begged for a match with Owens. Regal didn't want to reward Owens for his behavior, because it establishes a dangerous precedent. So it was to be non title… except… yeah Owens wasn't going to fight non title. The title is a PRIZE. One he wants. One that gets him more money. More prestige. More EVERYTHING. So in a contract signing the only thing that got broken TABLE LIVED! Were Regal and Zayn's wills. Zayn, in a self admitted lapse in judgement pleads with Regal to make the match, which he does, and here we are. Like the match for #1 Contendership? This could easily find itself on all kinds of Year End Lists.

Favorite: Kevin Owens -150. A slight favorite. Not many have walked into NXT/WWE and ended up where he is in such a short period of time. His THIRD TV Match will be for the NXT Championship. He's has promised to "take" the NXT Championship. Which is an interesting phrasing that has stuck in my mind since he used it.

Underdog: Sami Zayn -125. His chase was epic and super fulfilling. Imagine him losing the championship. The dejection, but also the realization that WHO will be able to stop Kevin Owens. Sami chasing is right in his wheelhouse, and really Owens winning really kicks off them going back and forth, if Zayn isn't destined for Monday and Thursdays? This could be the start of something incredibly beautiful. ESPECIALLY considering that a #1 Contender will be named as well.
