Since its inception in 1985, WrestleMania has gone by many nicknames including the "Granddaddy of Them All," the "Super Bowl of Wrestling," and of course "Showcase of the Immortals." We are just 32-weeks away from the biggest WrestleMania in WWE History; WrestleMania XXXII will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas on April 3 rd 2016. Could WrestleMania IV be the WORST WrestleMania of all time? Mark Haggerty and Gary Mastriano are back on the fourth installment of Brocase,' and ready to dissect this spellbindingly bad broadcast. This event featured not fourteen, not fifteen, but SIXTEEN matches! The WWE title is vacant, and a 14-man tournament has been scheduled to declare an undisputed champion. In addition, Bobby Heenan is stepping inside the squared-circle for the first time in Mania history, the Honky Tonk Man is defending his intercontinental championship, and Bret "The Hitman" Hart proves that nice guys actually do finish last. All that and more on another clip-clad, action-packed edition of "BroCase of the Immortals" on B+ Player Radio and Cheap-Heat.com!

Wrestlemania III is perhaps the most iconic wrestling event in the history of the sport. Taking place on March 29, 1987 before a reported 93,173 fans, this was the first ‘Mania to be available on pay-per-view. The main event features Hulk Hogan defending the world title against the then-undefeated Andre the Giant. In addition, this is the event wherein Ricky the Dragon Steamboat defeated Macho Man Randy Savage, Brutus Beefcake was christened “the Barber,” and Bob Ueker remained on the hunt for the Fabulous Moolah. Enjoy clips and behind the scenes stories from one of the biggest wrestling events of all time!

This week we're coming to you from one single location as we chit-chat about a show broadcast from THREE SEPARATE CITIES! WrestleMania 2 took place in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles—and was the only Mania to air on a Monday. Gary isn't fond of this event, and goes on record calling it the "worst WWE event in history." Mark thoroughly enjoyed it however, and is hopped up on caffeine, ready to tell you why! This is also the most star-studded wrestling event in history with dozens upon dozens of comedians, actors, football players, and fast food spokespeople! Enjoy this week's episode of "BroCase of the Immortals" —a little late, but chock full of the nonsensical humor you've come to expect from B+ Player Radio.

5. Charlotte's Web

Charlotte and Brie mix it up, and lobby for the quick tag from their individual corners. Neither woman is able to achieve assistance, especially when Nikki opted to attack Becky on the apron. Brie went for a finishing move of some sort, but Charlotte rolled her up in a "Bridging Schoolgirl" combination dubbed "Charlotte's Web."

4. Seth Responds to Sting

Click here to view the embedded video.

A very compelling promo from an individual who's hit-or-miss on occasion. Seth says that he's not afraid of "some freak that walks around with a baseball bat wearing face paint," and says that Sting should be afraid of him. Seth says that Triple H's only regret—in his ENTIRE career—was not finishing Sting once and for all at WrestleMania.

3. Kevin Owens vs. Adrian Neville

Click here to view the embedded video.

Great back and forth between the longest reigning NXT Champion, and the most dominant NXT Champion. Adrian Neville is able to go toe-to-toe with the much-larger Owens until the end of the match. The action hit the outside of the ring and Neville delivered a debilitating Super Kick. He tossed his opponent into the ring and attempted the "Red Arrow," but to no avail. Owens countered Neville's attempts into a Pop-up Powerbomb for a 1-2-3.

2. The Dudley Boyz Return to Smackdown!

Click here to view the embedded video.

The Dudley Boyz are back on WWE Smackdown for the very first time since 2005, set to compete with Konnor and Viktor of the Ascension. A fun match with much of what you might anticipate. The Ascension got the inevitable hope spot, but it wasn't long before the Dudleyz hit their signature maneuvers for a decisive first victory back in the WWE.

1. All in the Wyatt Family

Click here to view the embedded video.

The show kicks off with the Wyatt Family—now stronger than ever with the "Black Sheep" Braun Strowman by their side. Luke Harper starts the show by telling the audience how they've been blinded, and how their ears are clogged to the truth! The Wyatt's are soon met by their most consistent of adversaries—Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. The Wyatt's backed away for the time being, but this wasn't the last time we'd see the new "Face of Fear," "Face of Desolation," nor "Face of Destruction." The Wyatt's returned later in the night to cost Dean Ambrose a victory over Sheamus. Following the match, Roman Reigns came to his friends rescue, but he was once again outmatched by the burling Braun Strowman.

July is the season of American Independence, so in honor of the USA, I wrote "Superstars and Stripes Forever: Top 13 Most Patriotic Performers." This got me thinking about other holidays, and pro wrestlers commonly associated with them. I originally planned to do another Top Thirteen Countdown, but came up very short on names—I guess there's no real market for a Columbus Day or EASTER gimmick. And before you say anything, no, I did not include Adam Rose's bunny. So sit back and enjoy "Six Seasonal Superstars: Holiday-Themed Wrestlers."

2. Goldust
The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust – New Years 1998
Number six was a one-off by the incomparable Dustin Runnels, and while some might say that's a cop-out, I'll argue it's just as valid as se of the other names on this list. Goldust was going through some emotional problems toward the tail-end of 1997, and by 1998 had completely gone off the deep-end. This was one of his more modest moments, when compared to the time he dressed up as Sable. Goldust decided to celebrate 1998 on Monday Night Raw dressed as the iconic "Baby New Year." He was scantily-clad, as was the norm for "The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust," and danced around the ring until a certain "Rattlesnake" crashed the party. Goldust ended up ringing in the New Year inside a port-a-potty dubbed "Crapper 3:16.

3. Hornswoggle
Hornswoggle – St. Patrick's Day
He arrived in the WWE under seemingly mythological circumstances, and lived underneath the ring where he took part in "Little People's Court." Hornswoggle is the WWE's resident Leprechaun, who captured his own "pot of gold" in the form of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Hornswoggle has transitioned away from the soot-faced caricature he used to play, but still enters the arena to a lively Irish jig. Not only has Hornswoggle made a name for himself in the WWE, but on the silver screen in the recent reboot of the "Leprechaun" film franchise.

4. Christmas Creature
Christmas Creature – Christmas
Before he was the "Devil's Favorite Demon," Kane went by several other names. Without getting into the history of insane gimmicks Glen Jacobs has been given, let's instead focus on the most bizarre of them all. After making a name for himself in USWA, Jacobs arrived in Smoky Mountain Wrestling, where Jim Cornette christened him "The Christmas Creature." His sleeves were made to look like candy canes, whereas the rest of his body—including his head—was covered in green fabric. In addition, he was liberally adorned with strands of tinsel—both across his chest and around his waist, as well as suggestively strung between his legs. The Christmas Creature might have been a bit flawed in terms of execution, but you cannot fault anyone for the sheer creativity of the character.

5. Gobbledy Gooker
Gobbledy Gooker – Thanksgiving
The holiday season was just starting in 1990, and the entire WWE Universe was wondering—"What's in the Egg?" The Egg, of course, was a giant anomaly placed near the entrance way at WWE television tapings and live events. Speculation would proceed to run rampant, until everyone's questions were answered at the Survivor Series on Thanksgiving Night. It was the Gobbledy Gooker! An anthropomorphic Turkey, who ran to the ring and danced with Mean Gene Okerlund. The Gooker went on to appear a handful of times in prerecorded promos, but disappeared from television before Christmas. It was later revealed that Hector Guerrero—Eddie's older brother—was the wrestler inside the Turkey suit. Hector reprised his role as the Gobbledy Gooker in 2001 as part of the "Gimmick Battle Royal" at Wrestlemania X7, when he was the second Superstar eliminated.

5. Halloween
Halloween – Halloween
Halloween is number two for a variety of reasons, but first and foremost—his name is Halloween! Audiences in America might best remember this famed performer as "Ciclope," a Cruiserweight competitor in WCW. Halloween's longevity sets him apart from everyone else on the list. Like Hornswoggle, his persona is more than just a short-lived publicity stunt—Halloween has been performing under the black and orange since 1990. While his resilience and ability to withstand the test of time earns him a top spot on my list, I couldn't place him at number one because his character doesn't exactly embody the "Halloween Spirit."

6. Xanta Claus
Xanta Claus – Christmas
Like many other names listed, our number one Seasonal Superstar went on to achieve greater success once his holiday-themed gimmick expired. Fans around the world know him as Balls Mahoney, the former amateur wrestler-turned-hardcore legend, but for a short period in the mid=90s, Balls was known as Xanta Claus. Xanta Claus was brought to the World Wrestling Federation by the "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, to act as an antithesis to—you guessed it— SANTA CLAUS . He wore black and red, and sported a closely-groomed dark brown beard. He wouldn't last very long because, as James Bond will tell you: "Christmas only comes once a year." Despite the unusually short-shelf life of the character, Xanta Claus remains among the most talked about WWE Superstars of all time.

How's it going wrestling fans? IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW IT'S GOING! Just kidding of course. I haven't earned the right to berate my audience like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has. Speaking of the Rock, it's Thursday, which means it's time for the 16-year old tradition named in his honor. Of course I'm talking about the show that began on UPN, can currently be seen on SyFy, and will appear on the USA Network in 2016—it's SMACKDOWN! My name is Mark Adam Haggerty, and while you don't care who I am, you'll be happy to know that I'm with you each and every week for a quick take on the Thursday Night Delight. When you don't have time to tune in, you can count on me to tell you WHAT'S COOKIN' and WHAT DOESN'T MATTER!

2. Barrett

The show began with Jerry "The King" Lawler standing inside the ring, awaiting the entrance of the newly crowned King of the Ring, Bad News Barrett. Once Barrett appeared, he immediately began to battle the King in a "War of Worlds." Barrett said that HE was the only King in the WWE, and that Jerry Lawler is nothing more than a "commoner." He even went so far as to say: "Forgive me if I'm wrong Jerry, but the trailer parks of Memphis don't have any castles, do they?" He insists that Jerry say the same four words, that all of the fans will be forced to say: "All Hail King Barrett." Dolph Ziggler shows up for his match against Bad News Barrett, and takes exception to the way he speaks to Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler. Their match is quickly underway, and features the same sort of WWE Big Guy vs. Little Guy spots; Dolph Ziggler goes up high, but Barrett cuts him off low, and so on until Bad News Barrett is in firm control. The contest continues until the "Celtic Warrior" Sheamus interjects, attacking Dolph Ziggler and costing Barrett the bout by disqualification. Sheamus is seeking retribution for the stitches he suffered at the hands of Ziggler at the King of the Ring last week. Bad News Barrett is less concerned with the loss—because why would any WWE Superstar give a shit about wins and losses—and proceeds to put the boots to Ziggler alongside Sheamus. Just then, the "Man That Gravity Forgot" showed up to even the odds against the imposing combination of current and former Kings of the Ring. Neville brought the fight to Barrett, dishing out the onslaught right into a commercial break. Was this COOKIN'? Find out in the NEXT segment.

3. Impromptu Tag Match

When the action resumed, all four competitors were still around the ring, preparing for an impromptu tag team match up. Neville and Ziggler would seek to depose the diabolical duo of Bad News Barrett and Sheamus. This was a continuation of the first segment, but brought with it a whole new feel thanks to the aerial mechanics of Adrian Neville and the relentless brutality of the former WWE champion, Sheamus. Although the smaller-statured team had their share of difficulty battling back from the brink of defeat, it was the unlikely Irish and English allies that were ultimately slain thanks to the underdog forces of Ziggler and Neville. Neville's "Red Arrow" didn't come into play, but he certainly had his chance to soar through the clouds and onto his unsuspecting opponents on the outside, which gave Dolph Ziggler the leverage he needed to finalize things with the Zig Zag. Dolph earned the 1-2-3 for a hard-fought victory after two matches with Bad News Barrett. I really like it when Raw or Smackdown begin with a MATCH, and it never seems to happen anymore. The best we can ever hope for, is a short monologue about the opening match. And that's what we got here, and included therein were some hilarious bits from Barrett. Might we see a future feud between the King of the Ring and the King of the Announce Desk? Dare I say—at Wrestlemania 32 in Dallas, Texas? I expect a JAM-PACKED CARD, with all the bells and whistles. What better place to give Jerry Lawler his REAL Wrestlemania Moment? This segment and the preceding match were both highly enjoyable, they kicked Smackdown off in a positive way, and they were without a doubt COOKIN'!

4. Rusev

The night begins to slow down with Lana in the ring who's receiving an insanely positive reaction. I'm not a fan of the Lana face turn, and I know most other critics aren't keen on it either. So who are these idiots in the crowd showering her with adulation when they should be feeding her heat? It's very strange. Tonight's show emanated from Ottawa, a city in Ontario just over the American border, that doesn't get as many live events as the New York or Chicago markets. The crowd was hot all night, which could have attributed to the overall positive feel of the program. Once Lana was at her peak of babyface support, Rusev made his arrival and ordered her to leave the ring, much the same as Marvelous Marc Mero back before the Attitude Era. Rusev then proceeded to deliver an impassioned speech about how he's stronger than John Cena, paying special attention not to mention America while wrestling in Canada. He spliced sentences together incorporating both English dialogue and what I perceived to be Russian, although Rusev is of course Bulgarian. At the end of the night, this segment really DOESN'T MATTER, because it was just Rusev talking and Lana walking, the latter was far more interesting than the former.

5. Rowan Fandango

Fandango has become one of those performers who nobody ever expects to win, at least in my eyes. His music hits and while people still dance and do the "Fandango," there's never any question as to who's going to win. The answer is almost always: "Not Fandango." Which is a shame! This is the guy who beat Chris Jericho in his WWE debut, wrestling on the grandest stage of them all—WRESTLEMANIA—at Met Life Stadium in the shadow of New York City. And now his music hits and people think: "Well, no matter who he's wrestling—his opponent is going to win." Tonight was no different, when Fandango went up against one of the most peculiar entities in WWE in recent years, Luke Harper. Harper made quick work of Fandango within just a matter of moments. Do you know how I know this match was really short? I stepped onto my balcony to feed my house plants while Harper's entrance music was playing, and when I came back inside, his music was playing again. Following the match was a strange turn of events between former partners, when Erick Rowan appeared and seemed as though he had his sights set on Harper. He walked down to ringside with his sheep mask, and shocked the audience by attacking Fandango. Neither man said a word, and Erick Rowan returned from whence he came, leaving Harper alone in the ring, bewildered as he stared into the eyes of the plastic sheep mask.

6. Six Man Tag (4)

The tag team championship hunt has fast become one of the most entertaining aspects of the WWE since Kidd and Cesaro captured the titles before Wrestlemania. Since then, the New Day have won the belts, and are still mixing it up with the former tag team champions. Tonight is a six-man tag team match, pitting all three members of the New Day against Kidd and Cesaro, as well as a mystery partner of their choosing. Smackdown is weird because there are never any surprises, unless you're inside the arena. But even then, you know nothing substantial is happening at a Tuesday night TV taping. I had no idea who Kidd and Cesaro would choose, though in hindsight their decision to pick RYBACK rather predictable. This wasn't in any way the classic confrontation that their earlier matches have been, partially due to the inclusion of Ryback, but also as all three members of the New Day are forced to work simultaneously, without Xavier on the outside as a manager. There were some insane spots in this match, including a number of aerial innovations, and a DDT from the barricade by Cesaro. When the end came, the New Day won it just as they have before—with Kofi Kingston grabbing a handful of tights for the one, two, three. It was COOKIN'!

7. Naomi vs Emma (4)

Naomi and Tamina were next, and lead off with a searing promo aimed at whomever may have "Forgotten" various nuances of either woman's repertoire. This was a standard effort by Naomi against Emma. Naomi is an above average professional wrestler by WWE Diva standards, while Emma is still learning. I think it better serves Naomi to spend time with more seasoned Divas at this stage, so that when Emma is ready to sit at the learning tree, Naomi has knowledge to pass along. Naomi won the match, and following the bell, Tamina clocked Emma in the jaw with an absolutely beautiful Super Kick. It was interesting, was it entertaining? Eh—I didn't LOVE it. In the interest of never copping out and giving you one of two responses, I'm afraid I'd have to say this segment and match therein just DIDN'T MATTER!

I'll tell you right now that this match between the Lucha Dragons and Los Matadores didn't matter. At all. The Mexican Team wrestled the Puerto Rican team that pretends to be a Mexican team. This was a clash of styles that proceeded to make the Matadores look like a joke. Granted, they are a joke team that wanders around with a miniature bull, I'm just not keen on how the WWE feels the only way to build new Superstars is at the detriment of pre-established performers. The Lucha Dragons won and Los Matadores took out their frustrations on El Torito. It DOESN'T MATTER!

8. Contract Signing (11)

Tonight's main event was a contract signing, unlike any other we've seen before. First off, rather than the standard two men at a table, this was a four person set-up, featuring Kane presiding over the entire ordeal. Second, Seth Rollins refused to participate! Once the Lunatic Fringe, the Viper, and the uh—Roman Reigns, were seated inside the ring, Seth Rollins emerged from the backstage area with J&J Security in tow. He informed the audience that as champion, he reserves the right to have the Director of Operations sign his contracts for him. Kane says that might be true—in theory. Earlier in the evening, Seth Rollins called Kane "irrelevant," which the "Big Red Machine" brought to light when explaining to Seth why he WASN'T going to sign his contact for him. Seth eventually made his way to ringside, but did so with a plan; he used his close relationships with Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and even Randy Orton to his advantage, in an attempt to turn the three against one another before he even entered the ring. The challengers didn't buy in to his trickery, and soon Seth was standing in the center of the squared circle, surrounding by the three number one contenders, and J&J Security. While tensions heat, Dean Ambrose slowly began to assemble a table in the corner of the ring. Nobody realized what he was doing as he sought to start the war right then and there. He grabbed the microphone and said, "Look, we all know how this is going to turn out. I call the table." With that, he tossed Joey Mercury toward the table, but it didn't break. All four Payback participants were engaged in battle inside the ring, along with Noble and Mercury, as well as the Operations Director Kane. This was an interesting way to end Smackdown; we've seen contract signings in the past, but this was different and well worth a watch if you've already made it this far into the show. I'm going to certify the main event as COOKIN'!

10. Ambrose (11)

This was a fantastic week for World Wrestling Entertainment in terms of cable television programming. NXT is always on point, and the Network shows offer something for everybody, but Monday Night Raw and Thursday Night Smackdown have a tendency to UNDER deliver. This week's episode of Raw received unanimous praise, minus some polarizing viewpoints on the Sami Zayn appearance, and Smackdown continued to produce quality in-ring entertainment. Hall of Fame Hopefuls
Part Five: Headliners

Written by Mark Adam Haggerty

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the fifth and final chapter of "Hall of Fame Hopefuls," exclusively available at Cheap-Heat.com. My name is Mark Adam Haggerty and over the past month I've had the chance to chat about some of the most iconic talents to ever be featured in-or-around a professional wrestling ring. We began with tag teams, moved on to the celebrity wing, then to managers and broadcasters, and last week I named the most deserving Divas whom I believe belong in the WWE Hall of Fame. For this ultimate edition, we're listing ten possible headliners for future Hall of Fame classes. These are the men who will fill the same sort of role as Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, the Ultimate Warrior, and of course the "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Let's kick things off with the only Olympic Gold Medalist on the countdown.

Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle is among the greatest technicians in the history of professional wrestling, and might be the greatest active competitor inside a squared—or six-sided—circle. After taking home top honors at the 1996 Summer Olympics, Kurt Angle was at a loss for how to continue his athletic career. After much soul-searching he decided to try his hand at professional wrestling and made his in-ring debut for the National Wrestling Alliance on October 24, 1998. Angle was spotted by the WWE immediately and first appeared for the Federation at the Survivor Series the following year. Angle enjoyed a dominant winning streak lasting over two months and made history when he won the WWE Championship from the Rock at No Mercy 2000, just eleven months after debuting. A former King of the Ring, Kurt went on to achieve unprecedented honors including the WWE, WCW, and World heavyweight championships—in addition to secondary belts like the U.S., Intercontinental, European, Hardcore, and tag team titles. Although the "Wrestling Machine" has been absent from World Wrestling Entertainment for nearly a decade, it's safe to assume his seat will always be ready, should he decide to take his place amongst the "Immortals."

Triple H
The man that would one day become Triple H started his career in 1992 after training with the legendary Killer Kowalski. He debuted for World Championship Wrestling in 1994 as Terra Ryzing, but was soon repackaged as "Jean-Paul Levesque"—a French nobleman with a finishing maneuver known as the "Pedigree." He signed with the WWE in 1995 and brought his aristocratic act to a whole new audience as the "Connecticut Blue Blood" Hunter Hearst-Helmsley. Triple H teamed with Shawn Michaels in 1997 to form D-Generation X, which Hunter continued to lead clear into the new millennium. Triple H won his first world title on an episode of Raw following Summerslam 1999 and has since become one of the most decorated performers in WWE history. A 13-time world heavyweight champion, Triple H is also a former King of the Ring, Royal Rumble winner, and a member of BOTH the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame and the International Sports Hall of Fame.Triple H has scaled back on in-ring competition since taking a job in Titan Towers in 2010, where his main focus has been on creative and talent relations. Triple H is a lock for the WWE Hall of Fame—the only uncertainly is when we might see it happen.

The Rock
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been igniting the box office for 15 years, but got his start in entertainment by "electrifying millions—and millions" of people around the world. The Rock debuted for the WWE in 1996 at the Survivor Series as "Rocky Maivia"—a name created by combining Rocky Johnson with Peter Maivia—in honor of his father and grandfather. Audiences didn't take to the Jerri-curled babyface and soon began to greet the future "Great One" with chants of "Rocky Sucks" and "Die, Rocky, Die." The Rock found himself in the driver's seat of the Nation of Domination after ejecting their former leader Farooq, and by 1998 was well on his way to world heavyweight title. The Rock became the WWE champion at the Survivor Series that year when he "screwed" Mick Foley in the "Deadly Games Tournament." The Rock held numerous championships during his time with the WWE, but made his greatest mark in ways that no previous Superstar could have imagined. The December 1998 pay-per-view—Rock Bottom—was named for the champ, but that was only the beginning. In 1999 the WWE debuted Smackdown—a phrase made popular by the Rock—which led to an enormously popular video game series by the same name. The Rock returned to the WWE in 2011 to host Wrestlemania XXVII, and went on to win the WWE championship for an 8th time at the Royal Rumble in 2013. If the Rock isn't worthy of the WWE Hall of Fame—then why does it exist?

Sting
Steve Borden began his wrestling career much the same as fellow Hall of Famers Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels—as part of a tag team. Borden was originally one-half of the Blade Runners with the man who would one-day be known as the Ultimate Warrior. Originally referred to as "Blade Runner Flash," Borden would ultimately change his name to Sting. He debuted for Jim Crockett Promotions in 1987 and quickly engaged in a heated rivalry with Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen. Sting won his first world title on July 7, 1990 from the "Nature Boy," and by 1991 was considered the "Franchise" of World Championship Wrestling. When the New World Order started to take over WCW during the summer of 96, Sting went into hiding and returned in the rafters where he proceeded to watch the events of 97 unfold. Sting finally met "Hollywood" Hogan for the WCW championship at Starrcade 1997, where he defeated the former Hulkster and regained the title on behalf of WCW. Over the next several years, Sting's character would evolve and alternate allegiances, even aligning with Kevin Nash and the NWO Wolf Pac. Sting had the privilege of performing in the main event of the final Monday Nitro in March of 2001 against his longtime nemesis, Ric Flair. When the company closed, Borden opted not to join the competition and instead signed with the WWE alternative Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2003. Sting's induction seems all-but-imminent now that the "Vigilante" has signed with the WWE—14 years removed from the Monday Night War. Sting is also a longtime resident of the "Lone-Star State"—the site of next year's potential record-breaking Wrestlemania—so now seems like a perfect time to consider him for the WWE Hall of Fame.

Chris Jericho
The self-professed "Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla" is one of the most diverse performers to ever lace-up a pair of wrestling boots. Chris Jericho started his journey toward the WWE Hall of Fame in 1990 when he began training under the highly-acclaimed Hart Brothers. Jericho traveled the world and learned various nuances of the business during his time in Mexico and Japan, and eventually debuted stateside for Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1995. It wasn't long before national promotions started to take notice of young "Lionheart" and in 1997, Chris Jericho signed with WCW. He achieved mild-success while employed by Turner, engaging in memorable rivalries with high profile talents such as Dean Malenko and even Bill Goldberg. Jericho joined the World Wrestling Federation in 1999 and made his long-awaited debut by interrupting the Rock on Monday Night Raw. Chris Jericho holds the record for most intercontinental title reigns at nine, and is further renowned for being the very first Undisputed Champion in WWE history. Jericho is the WWE's 4th Grand Slam Champion, coming in just behind Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, as well as current "Authority Figures" Triple H and Kane. Chris Jericho has been able to withstand the test of time by reinventing himself and relying on the number one rule of showmanship—"always leave them wanting more." Chris is an aspiring actor, a successful podcast host, and most notably—he is the lead singer for the hit heavy metal band FOZZY. Hopefully Y2J will "save us" from boring speeches when he inevitably accepts the honor of being added to the WWE Hall of Fame.

John "Bradshaw" Layfield
John "Bradshaw" Layfield signed with the WWE in 1995 and has remained involved with the company to some degree ever since. He began as the Texas roughneck Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, an homage to clichéd Sports Entertainment cowboys such as Stan Hansen and Black Bart. Bradshaw found much of his early success in the tag team ranks, both with Barry Windham as the "New Blackjacks," and later with his longtime partner Ron Simmons in the APA. Bradshaw and Simmons won the WWE tag titles on three separate occasions before finally separating in 2004. By this time, Bradshaw's real-life role on Wall Street started to seep into the storyline, and the JBL character was born. John "Bradshaw" Layfield formed his "Cabinet" and took the WWE Championship from Eddie Guerrero in a bloody Bull Rope Match at the Great American Bash. His record-breaking streak as champion came to an end at Wrestlemania 21 when he dropped the coveted title to John Cena. JBL remained adamant about regaining his gold, but failed to do so, instead choosing to focus on secondary singles titles such as the United States and Intercontinental Championships. Today Bradshaw is a color commentator on Monday Night Raw and hosts a daily radio segment with Michael Cole. If Jerry Lawler and Booker T are going to flash their Hall of Fame jewelry at ringside, then so too should John "Bradshaw" Layfield.

Goldberg
Bill Goldberg was an Atlanta Falcon who entered the world of professional wrestling in 1997 after training at WCW's Power Plant. Goldberg immediately turned heads with a physical presence unlike anything wrestling fans had ever seen. His matches might have been short, but they added up to an astounding 173-0 winning streak lasting until Starrcade 1998. Goldberg lost the title but maintained his winning edge, only losing to a select few individuals such as Kevin Nash and Bret "The Hitman" Hart. Goldberg was loyal to World Championship Wrestling until its dying day, and opted to sit-out the remainder of his contract, rather than sign with World Wrestling Entertainment. Goldberg made his WWE debut on the Monday Night Raw following Wrestlemania XIX in Seattle, where the former-Falcon warned the Rock: "You're Next!" Goldberg was featured prominently on the WWE's Raw brand during his year with the company, and won the world heavyweight championship from Triple H in a "Title vs. Career Match" at Unforgiven 2003. Goldberg's final match with the company would be a polarizing affair featuring Brock Lesnar with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin as the guest referee. While the match left a lot to be desired, Bill Goldberg walked away victorious and even shared a ceremonial beer with the "Rattlesnake" before getting 'Stunned himself. Goldberg might not have been the most technically proficient superstar in wrestling history, but he sold tickets and remains a household name almost 20 years after his debut.

Owen Hart
There are a variety of reasons why Owen Hart has yet to be added to the WWE Hall of Fame; his widow Martha is adamant that he not be included, although his brother Bret seeks closure and continues to pressure Martha into changing her mind. The logistics of the situation aside, Owen Hart is one of the most deserving professional wrestlers who's yet to receive a WWE Hall of Fame acknowledgment. Owen began learning his craft under the tutelage of his famed father Stu Hart. His wrestling career was hindered as his debut in 1983 came during a time that Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation was acquiring Stu's Stampede territory. Owen wasn't afforded the chance to learn on his family's home turf and instead made a name for himself on the independent circuit before being signed to the WWE in 1988. Owen competed as the Blue Blazer and was even featured at Wrestlemania V against Mr. Perfect. Owen left the WWE and spent time back at home in Calgary, as well as in WCW, before returning to the Federation in 1993. Beginning in the autumn of '93, Owen entered into what would become a defining program in his career—a bitter year-long rivalry with his older brother Bret. The two first met at Mania X where Owen got the best of Bret, and then again at Summerslam in a 5-star championship cage match wherein the "Hitman" emerged victorious. Owen became a celebrated tag team specialist alongside partners like Yokozuna, the British Bulldog, and Jeff Jarrett. In addition to numerous tag team accolades, Owen is a former intercontinental champion, European champion, King of the Ring, and 3-time Slammy Award Winner. Sadly however, Owen lost his life in a tragic accident at the Kemper Arena on May 23rd, 1999; Owen Hart was a world-class performer who most certainly deserves one final "Wrestlemania Moment" as his memory is honored in the WWE Hall of Fame.

The Undertaker
Mark Calaway stood nearly seven feet tall and was originally brought to the mainstream by WCW in 1989 as "Mean Mark Callous." He replaced Sid Vicious as one-half of Teddy Long's "Skyscrapers" along with Dan Spivey, but soon embarked on a singles career that would introduce him to a wider audience. Calaway signed with the WWE in 1990, leaving wrestling fans flabbergasted when Ted DiBiase introduced his otherworldly team mate at the Survivor Series. The Undertaker was a sinister heel during his first two years in the Federation, and captured the WWE Championship from Hulk Hogan one year after his debut at the Series in 91. By the time the "New Generation" was taking over from the "Old Guard," the Undertaker transitioned from fearsome freak to beloved babyface. He introduced the "Casket Match" to the WWE Universe against Kamala and later the world champion Yokozuna. He regained the WWE belt at Wrestlemania 13 against the man he originally replaced in WCW— Psycho Sid—and started down a championship path that would ultimately include 7 world titles. The Undertaker's contributions to the WWE are innumerable and impossible to list in one paragraph, but include match types such as "Buried Alive," the "Last Ride Match," and "Hell in a Cell." The Undertaker's Kayfabe brother Kane was introduced to compliment the Taker character, but has since gone on to achieve a mythical status of his own. The Undertaker is one of the most inventive Superstars in the history of the WWE; whether he's the Phenom of the World Wrestling Federation or the American Badass, it's hard to argue with success. I think it's safe to say the Undertaker is a guaranteed future-Hall of Famer, so I'll stop here and patiently await next year's Wrestlemania in the Dead Man's home state of Texas.

Vince McMahon
The WWE Hall of Fame would cease to be had it not been for the vision of one global entrepreneur. Vince McMahon took his father's New York-based wrestling promotion and developed it into a worldwide entertainment conglomerate, currently trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Vince became a focal point on Federation broadcasts beginning in the early 1970s, and by the end of the decade would be the driving force within his father's company. Vince's distribution outfit—Titan Sports—acquired the World Wrestling Federation in 1982, just a few years shy of Hulk Hogan and the advent of Wrestlemania. Vince remained dedicated to the announce desk throughout the 1980s and 90s, forming lasting bonds with color commentators such as Jess "The Body" Ventura and Jerry "The King" Lawler. In 1997 Vince stepped outside his comfort zone and into the spotlight, where he would become the diabolical "Mr. McMahon" character that audiences love-to-hate. McMahon feuded with main event talents from numerous generations including Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Triple H, and most famously "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. In addition to his countless honors outside of professional wrestling, Vince is a 2-time world champion—having held both the WWE and ECW world heavyweight championships. Vincent J.—Mr. McMahon's father—was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996, so there's certainly room for more McMahons should the opportunity someday arise. Vince McMahon has received his share of criticism throughout the years from both industry insiders and outsiders alike, but few can debate whether Vince McMahon belongs in his OWN Hall of Fame.

I want to thank everyone who took the time to read "Hall of Fame Hopefuls." This was a fun way to highlight some of the biggest names in wrestling history that haven't yet found their place in the "Pantheon of the Immortals." In five weeks I've named sixty different Superstars from various eras and countless generations, all of whom deserve recognition for their contributions to the industry. Until next time, this has been Mark Adam Haggerty reminding you to keep checking out Cheap-Heat and to follow me on Facebook by LIKING "The B+ Players."

Hall of Fame Hopefuls
Part Two: The Celebrity Wing

Written by Mark Adam Haggerty

Welcome to the second installment of my Wrestlemania season mini-series, dedicated to showcasing deserving individuals who've yet to enter the WWE Hall of Fame. The first name added to the celebrity wing was Pete Rose in 2004. Since then, six additional personalities have been honored including William "the Refrigerator" Perry, Bob Uecker, Drew Carey, Mike Tyson, Donald Trump, and Mr. T. This year's spectacle in Santa Clara will feature Arnold Schwarzenegger as he assumes his place in history. With the exception of Drew Carey, I think the WWE has done a fine job of using discretion when inducting celebrities. Who can we expect to see enter the Hall in 2016—or even several years down the road at Wrestlemania 40 ? My name is Mark Adam Haggerty and this is "Hall of Fame Hopefuls Part Two: The Celebrity Wing."

Bob Barker – Inducted by Drew Carey
Several years ago, the WWE entered into an unenlightened period where every episode of Monday Night Raw had a different celebrity host. We saw everyone from Hugh Jackman to Seth Green to Shaquille O'Neill—and those were some of the more entertaining acts. But how about Pee-Wee Herman or Al Sharpton? Unfortunately outside-involvement has always had a polarizing effect on wrestling audiences. But that's not to say fans won't buy what a celebrity is selling, as long as the Price is Right ! Bob Barker may have only appeared on WWE television once, but has since become an honorary member of the WWE Universe. In 2009, Bob hosted "The Price is Raw," a mock-version of his daytime hit, where he engaged several Superstars including Santino Marella, Mike Rotunda, and Jillian Hall. His gameshow repartee with Chris Jericho will always be a highlight of those dark days of weekly hosts, and even at 91-years-old, Barker still possesses a tenacious "WWE Attitude." Should Bob Barker one day be asked to join the other members of the celebrity wing, he will be in exceptionally rare company, joining the current host of the "Price is Right," Drew Carey.

Aretha Franklin – Inducted by Vince McMahon
One of the most iconic images in WWE history, is that of Vince McMahon welcoming 93,173 screaming fans to Wrestlemania III at the Pontiac Silverdome. "And welcome to Wrestlemania three!" With that, the mastermind behind Mania introduced a world-wide audience to the Grammy-award winning "Queen of Soul—Miss Aretha Franklin!" Aretha's rendition of "America the Beautiful" has withstood the test of time and inspired dozens upon dozens of artists to follow in her footsteps. Twenty years later when the WWE returned to Michigan, it seemed only fitting that the Detroit-native would be a part of the show. Once again, Aretha Franklin moved nearly 100,000 men and women from around the world with her singing that was both soulful and sultry. At just 72 years of age, it's entirely possible we could see Miss Aretha Franklin perform once again at Wrestlemania 33 in 2017. That seems like a perfectly fitting time to induct her into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Morton Downey Jr. – Posthumously Inducted by Roddy Piper
I was only 3 years old in 1989, but even well-into my teens I had trouble figuring out who Morton Downey Jr. was, and why was he at Wrestlemania V? I mean—is he related to ROBERT Downey Jr.? The answer is no, and to a generation a bit older than me, that probably sounds like a really stupid question. Morton Downey Jr. brought America to the brink of shock television before the phrase was ever coined. Years before Jerry Springer or Howard Stern, Morton Downey Jr. hosted an anything-goes talk show featuring vulgarity, sexism, racism, xenophobia, and plenty of cigarette smoke. Although the WWF hadn't established its "Attitude" just yet, Downey was just the sort of Superstar worthy of rubbing elbows with WWF's elite. In 1989, Wrestlemania returned to the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, where Morton met his match on the mic in both Brother Love and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Love was quickly evacuated from the equation, leaving Morton Downey Jr. alone in "Piper's Pit." After blowing his cigarette smoke in Hot Rod's face one-too-many times, Piper decided to put out the flame with a fire extinguisher. Downey developed lung cancer in 1996 which cause him to shift his opinion on tobacco completely. He remained a staunch anti-smoking activist for the following five years until his untimely death in 2001.

Leslie Nielsen – Posthumously Inducted by The Undertaker
His work as a WWF detective was so iconic, that I almost forgot Leslie Nielsen was accompanied by Oscar-winning actor and longtime screen companion George Kennedy! It was in 1994 that the Undertaker disappeared following an unsuccessful championship casket match against Yokozuna at the Royal Rumble. For several months, Taker was inexplicably absent from television until reports arose regarding potential "Undertaker Sightings." The WWF quickly enlisted the services of one of the most prolific gumshoes in all of comedy, and soon Leslie Nielsen began appearing on Monday Night Raw and Superstars. Things took an unexpected turn however, when the "Million Dollar Man" appeared on TV with his own version of the "Phenom." When Summerslam rolled into the United Center in Chicago, both Undertakers were set to square off, but the mystery had yet to be solved. George Kennedy was also in Chicago, and ready to team with his "Airplane" and "Naked Gun" costar once again, so that together they might uncover the truth revolving around the mysterious "Dead Man." Leslie Nielson passed away in 2010 following a career that introduced the world to over 220 different characters, one of whom cracked the case and brought the Undertaker back to the WWF.

Dennis Rodman – Inducted by Hulk Hogan
He certainly never had a defined skillset, but what he lacked in the ring, "The Worm" Dennis Rodman made up for in unequivocal charisma. By the time he joined WCW, Dennis was already a world-renowned basketball icon, despite several outlandish publicity stunts in his public life. When Hulk Hogan turned on his Hulkamaniacs and joined forces with the Outsiders, the man who use to pal around with Shaq was gone, leaving an opening for a far more controversial character. Rodman worked a number of WCW events including episodes of Nitro, Uncensored '97, Road Wild '97, as well as Bash at the Beach '97 and '98. He was so popular in fact, that WCW released a Dennis Rodman action figure, packaged with his NWO stablemate Hulk Hogan. Rodman has appeared alongside several WWE Hall of Famers such as Donald Trump for his "Celebrity Apprentice," as well as on "Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling." Dennis Rodman is a legitimate 2-sport athlete who has committed to professional wrestling unlike anyone before or since. In my estimation, he most certainly belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame—but might have to wait until Wrestlemania goes to North Korea.

Floyd Mayweather – Inducted by the Big Show
Professional wrestlers and boxers have always had a special relationship, dating back to the days when promotors would showcase both sports on the same card. In fact, Vince McMahon's grandfather Jess established the Capital Wrestling Corporation with the mindset to also feature boxing. Over the years, numerous boxing legends have appeared on WWE TV—including Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, and Joe Frasier—so it was only a matter of time before the best fighter of the modern age stepped into the squared circle. Floyd "Money" Mayweather made his debut at WWE No Way Out in 2008, where he engaged in a physical altercation with the returning Big Show. Show allowed Mayweather to hit him directly in the face, which resulted in a legitimate broken nose for the Giant. Their rivalry would develop further over the next month leading to a dramatic conclusion at Wrestlemania 24 at the Citrus Bowl. The media going into Mania was unlike anything the WWE had experienced for quite some time; Mayweather and Big Show were on every television show, radio broadcast, and media outlet imaginable, making it just the THIRD Wrestlemania in history to surpass one million buys.

Cyndi Lauper – Inducted by Wendy Richter
When Wendy Richter was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame, she closed her speech by quoting the 80s anthem—"Girls just wanna have fun!" As much as I appreciate Wendy for her contributions to the business, it wasn't the women's title that sold her match against Leilani Kai, but the presence of award winning recording artist Cyndi Lauper. Cyndi debuted on the musical scene that very year, walking out of the Grammy's with the award for "Best New Artist" just one month prior. It was her relationship with WWF manager Lou Albano that introduced Lauper to the exciting world of professional wrestling. Albano appeared in the video for her breakout single, playing the tyrannical patriarch unwilling to let "Girls Have Fun." The WWF began a new campaign mixing song-and-dance with Sports Entertainment—the "Rock N' Wrestling Era" was defined by musicians such as Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne, but it was Cyndi Lauper who made it official when she was physically attacked by "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. She was a pivotal component of the first Wrestlemania, and therefore belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame.

Muhammad Ali – Inducted by Pat Patterson
Most WWE fans will remember Muhammad Ali as the guest enforcer for the main event tag match at Wrestlemania I. But believe it or not, the former-Cassius Clay's involvement in Sports Entertainment goes back far beyond refereeing. In fact, Muhammad Ali began a full-fledge wrestling regimen following his final victory over Joe Frazier in 1975. Ali competed with some of the most influential wrestlers of the day, including a highly publicized encounter with future broadcast journalist and WWE Hall of Famer Gorilla Monsoon. But it was in Japan that Muhammad Ali truly made his mark on the wrestling mat, when he challenged national hero Antonio Inoki to a match that would be deemed "Boxer versus Wrestler." In 1984, Muhammad Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and subsequently forced to retire from any active competition. Today he lives with his wife Lonnie in Scottsdale, Arizona where he remains dedicated to Islam and the teachings of the Holy Qur'an. At 73 years old, it would seem that Muhammad Ali is the perfect candidate for the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Andy Kaufman – Posthumously Inducted by Jerry Lawler
When I was a kid there was a special broadcast on Comedy Central all about Andy Kaufman, briefly touching upon his "Inter-Gender Championship," but focusing mainly on his television credits. It was surreal to see Monday Night Raw's heel commentator play the hero against Latka from "Taxi," especially after I discovered the true extent of their feud. Andy appeared in the Memphis territory in the early 80s, performing as an outlandish caricature of himself that would only wrestle women. As the act evolved, Kaufman began insulting the local crowd on a nightly basis, even sending offensive pre-recorded comments when he was otherwise unavailable. Lawler was the self-proclaimed "King of Memphis," and took it upon himself to fight for his city. Kaufman received a piledriver from the "King" which resulted in Andy wearing a neck-brace, claiming that his neck was broken. In 1982, the pair appeared on "Late Night with David Letterman," where Kaufman proceeded to throw coffee directly in the face of Lawler. Neither Letterman nor his world-wide audience were privy to the inside joke—the heat between Kaufman and Lawler was completely fabricated, and will go down as one of the greatest "works" in professional wrestling history.

Lawrence Taylor – Inducted by Ted DiBiase
When it comes down to the most deserving celebrity not already in the WWE Hall of Fame, fans needn't look any further than former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor. Taylor went far and above the call of duty; when other athletes or actors entered the squared circle, it was to shill a personal project, or act as guest ring announcer. Nobody dreamed that a professional football player might headline the biggest show of the wrestling calendar; not since the inaugural Wrestlemania had Vince McMahon trusted someone other than his Superstars to carry the most important match of the night. But in 1995 the WWF reached out to one of the most visible faces in American sports and a future football Hall of Famer in his own right. The WWF championship featuring Diesel and Shawn Michaels was the match of the night, but wouldn't close the show as that honor went to L.T. and the "Beast from the East" Bam Bam Bigelow. Taylor proved that he took the sport of Sports Entertainment just as serious as any wrestler, and provided a memorable moment that will NEVER be forgotten. If the WWE decides to induct just ONE more celebrity, there's no doubt that it should be "L.T." Lawrence Taylor.
