WWE NXT Review – July 8th, 2015

Happy Wrestling Wednesday, Cheap-Heaters! Lets PARTY!

Easy, Kids. Someone is gonna have to clean that up!

Everyone pile in the Cheap-Heat bus we're heading to Full Sail University for another edition of NXT! We have a #1 Tag Team Contender's match. We know Sasha Banks continues to scour twitter and Facebook and myspace, and even ICQ to find a tag team partner to face off against Emma and Dana. SO lets see who steps up for that!

Here…

We…

GO!

We open to a recap of Beast in the East. They show Brock's match in its entirity (Not really, but pretty close considering how quickly he destroyed Kofi) – No mention of Balor vs. Owens… that's peculiar… But we open to chanting fans and its quickly explained. They're going to show us Owens vs. Balor… TONIGHT!

IN RING!

Dana Brooke's music hits and out come Emma and Dana. Sasha is out next. Big reaction for Sasha as she comes out. Oh no… Dana Brooke has a mic. Dana says she and Emma were right. Sasha couldn't find a partner. Crowd chants "Blue Pants". Sasha calls Dana "Miss Piggy" and says she'll take them on herself. Its go time, until? Charlotte's music hits. She says she'll be Sasha's partner, but that "She owes her (Charlotte) one." They shake hands. Bell rings. Sasha starts of dominating. Her Nakamura styled boot rash in the corner. Tags in Charlotte double team kicks. The do a BFF snap pose thing. Eventually Emma gets in. Charlotte gets some offense in, but Emma runs and gets a tag. They work over Flair in the corner. Quick tags as they beat down Charlotte. Emma locks a body scissors and clubs Charlotte in the back. "We want Sasha" chant and then 3 dudes answering "No we don't"… GO home Full Sail, You're drunk, and you get silly when you're drunk. Dana working a nice submission on Charlotte. She gets out, hot tag to Sasha. Thesz Press. Mounted fists. Running double knees into the corner… then AGAIN. Cover for a two and Emma breaks up. Dana hoists into a fire… uh… woman's carry. Sasha flips out. BANKS STATEMENT. Charlotte cuts off Emma Dana taps. They celebrate and shake hands in the ring. Now Charlotte has a mic. She says "A deal is a deal. I want a women's title shot next week." Banks says "That's what you want? Guess what, sister. Its ON!" <— Insert Daniel Bryan Yesses, here! OVERVIEW!

Decent contest here. Right team one, and looked dominant doing so. Loved the set up for Charlotte to help out Sasha and get herself another shot at the NXT Women's Championship. Can't WAIT for that next week!

THIS WEEKEND!

Bayley is backstage at a live event from this weekend. Bayley talks about being hurt by Emma. Says she hates being sidelined from chasing her dreams. She says she is going to come back from injury like Triple H or Stone Cold did and win the NXT Women's Championship. Her first target when she returns, though? Is Emma. And when she gets to Emma, she WON'T be hugging her.

HYPE!

Nice hype piece recapping Owens versus Balor. They talk about wrestling in Japan and Balor says the demon will rise in Tokyo. They might have played this on Saturday before the title match. I'm a little blurry on that, though… it WAS, crazy early.

IN RING! (IN TOKYO!)

Balor out first. Cool change up on the paint job. They present the combatants with flowers. Owens says "I'M ALLERGIC, DAMMIT!" and launches them down the entrance way. Big title match announcements for both and LOTS of streamer. (See above picture for Finn standing in a blizzard of streamer) Streamers get cleaned. Bell Rings. High velocity drop kick into the corner by Balor! Owens down. Balor climbs to the top rope, looking for the Coup De Grace. Finn was a house of fire to start. Dropkick through the ropes to the outside. Dropkick into Owens who is sitting against the barrier. Dude dressed like KO in the front Row? Not having a good time. We go to commercial. Great ad with Austin for 2k16.

We're back, definitely later in the match. Might be right after Owens kicked out of the CDG. Owens is down. Balor puts him up on the top rope. Finn looking superplex. Owens blocks. Owens looking for his fisherman's suplex off the middle rope. Balor counters with a kick to the head. Balor gets up on Owens on the top rope, but Owens with a somersault senton off the middle ROPE!!!! Two Plus!!!! That was nice. Balor hits the "Bloody Sunday" – single underhook Brainbuster type deal. That gets a three minus.

Balor comes charging in. Eats a Superkick. Owens locks in a sleeper… and then overhead belly to back suplexes him. So… Sleeper Suplex. Sublime. Owens taunts. "YOU CAN'T BEAT ME!" Dismissive slaps. Balor fires up. Huge slap. Clothesline turns Kevin inside out. High velocity dropkick! Stalling dropkick in the corner! COUP…DE… GRAS! 1! 2! 3! Balor celebrates! Post match he goes to shake Owens' hand, and crowd chants "NXT", but Owens isn't about that hand shake life.

and… NEW! NXT Champion.

OVERVIEW!

Great match. Wouldn't expect anything less. Crowd was electric. Pre-match ceremony to the post match celebration was special. ALSO special? The commentary by Byron and Cole. I regularly cringe at Michael Cole, but he was GREAT during this match, and this whole special, really.

BACKSTAGE!

Devin is with Chad Gable. She asks him why Jason didn't accept his offer to team up. Gable is in a 2012 Team USA warmup. Chad is hitting his READY… WILLING… and GABLE" – only its Jason Jordan who says "Gable", as he walks in, interrupting. He can't believe he's going to say it, but he is going to tag with Gable next week. – EXCELLENT!

BACKSTAGE!

Solomon Crowe is in his Crowe's nest. Says he's back and ready to show the NXT Universe why he is the resident little monster.

IN RING!

Marcus Louis walks out in silence. He makes faces and talks to the top rope. Solomon Crowe is out next. Starts off with chops. Louis screams. Right hand by Crowe levels Louis. Crowe locks in a unique submission in the middle of the ring. Louis gets on the offensive reversing Crowe's attempt to leap to the top rope. Marcus locks in a version of an abdominal stretch with a claw to the ribcage. Crowe gets out. Hits a clothesline. Hits a running kick into the corner. Then hits a dropkick to the knee. Locks in the "Crowe Bar" (Stretch Muffler) . Louis taps.

OVERVIEW!

This was okay for what it was. Not totally sold on Crowe. This match was pretty run of the mill and was a squash.

BACK IN TOKYO!

Balor is congratulated by Cesaro and Neville post match. Then John Cena walks in and congratulates him. Little post match interview Balor talks about dreams coming true.

IN RING!

Vaudevillains are out. Enzo and Cass out next. Enzo on the mic, informing us things we can't teach. Random comment alert: Aiden English could use a little sun. Enzo and Gotch start. Lot of back and forth. Gotch gets a little advantage and strikes a pose before tagging in English. That doesn't last long as Enzo sidesteps Gotch who flies out of the ring. Then Cass face palms English out of the ring. Cass spells it out for the Villains S-A…something…something…. SOFT! We go to break with the Vaudevillains looking perplexed on the ramp.

We're back. Fas hits a sidewalk slam on English. Double team with Cass slamming Enzo onto Aiden. Enzo snaps off some jabs and a right hand. English in the corner. Enzo charges and eats boots! Two count. Gotcha back in and we've gotten to our regularly scheduled "Enzo Beat down" portion of the match. Quick tags. Working hard on Enzo, wearing him down. Enzo hits a jaw breaker, but can't get to Cass as Gotch got tagged in and cuts off the ring. HOT TAG! Cass is in! Gotch Gets Got! English gets planted. Gotch distracts, but English's surprise roll up only nets a two count. Chaos ensues. Eventually Cass is ready to aid Enzo splash, but that doesn't fly as Gotch grabs Cass' leg. So Enzo goes for a cross body on English, but English rolls through, and hooks a leg for a three count! Vaudevillains are the #1 Contenders.

OVERVIEW!

Solid tag team match. Never got to a full boil. Compressed time frame and Full Sail felt flat during it. Glad the Vaudevillains won. I'm a huge fan of theirs. I don't think this hurts Enzo and Cass, and I'll be interested to see WHERE the tag division is headed. Also interested to see if the Vaudevillains get their shot before Takeover in Brooklyn. The fantasy booker in me figures Enzo and Cass will be in a tag title match in Brooklyn. Only makes sense.

TOO LONG? DIDN'T READ!?

A pretty pedestrian episode of NXT from an in ring standpoint. Sprinkling in 10 minutes or so of Balor/Owens helped. The stuff that was established and continued with this show was good, though. Drove home Balor as the new champion. Reminded us that Bayley will be back soon to win the NXT Women's Championship. Gave us NEW #1 Contenders to Blake and Murphy's Tag Team Championships, AND set up a hugely awesome Main Event (I'm assuming) for next week. When Charlotte and Sasha Banks once again show the world that they're two of the best wrestlers on the planet! Really looking forward to that match next week!

See you in 7!
